wow tomb raider really does struggle i think ill stick with the playstation version of tomb raider on epsexe seems to work a like a charm on that and you get the music and high quality graphics using a psx emulator

Yes but on old 480i TVs it's still a bit of a pain some times. And the resolution is sort of difficult to work around. I found a a way around my resolution problems...but I'm having other problems, message me anyone if you can help me out.

you can switch from playstation to whatever linux you've got, that's what switching installed os means on your system settings

iv got it on mine, two hard drives, one for ubuntu and one for when i just want to watch movies or play games

no it will not any version of linux on ps3 will only be runnig a ghost version i.e u will not have access to the ps3's video card are cell processor . linux on ps3 is little mre than a gimmic

Not really, Linux made the OS 'Yellow Dog' especially for the PS3, search for it. Seems to be the only OS Sony actually supports too...

I have a question for anyone willing to answer...

For some reason my ps3 says I have 64gb/74gb. I have the 80gb Model. I understand the 74 gig part but why does it display 64 gb? And after I "Allot 10gb to other OS" I lose another 5gb! So Its 55gb/74gb! And I have NOTHING on my PS3 except the Linux partition...

Part of your hard drive is either corrupted or that is the PS3 OS.

I advise you try to keep your PS3 as cool as possible so you dont damage any more of the hard drive if that is the case

its not an update. before you installed "other OS" your hard drive with anything alots so many gig for system settings, config, and partition tables. i know you may buy a 160gb hard drive but 148 of it would be available to you.

you have the 80gb model, but the ps3 takes 6 gbs from your 80gbs so you actually only have 74gbs..64 means you have 64 gbs avaliable for use out of your 74 gbs.

Linux is installed on a another part of the harddrive so you can switch between the two sytems....so you basically still keep the ps3 part but you add linux.....and it is supported by sony so it will not void your warranty

Nah... not exactly .exe files. Maybe .bin if you make them executable first. You can run .exe's with wine which is a windows compatibility layer though.

There's not much use for linux on your PS3 unless you have firmware 1.5 or less. Right now the only use I have found is I have a friend who does have a computer but has a PS3. I put linux on his PS3 so he could use torrents and download movies to his 2gb flash card, and transfer them to the PS3 OS.

Yea, that's what I was thinking. Cuz even though the PS3 (40gb) can't play PS2, you could bypass it by using a PS2 emulator on the Linux that is installed on your PS3.

So technically, it's just a computer running an emulator and the PS3 wouldn't know the difference. And since it's bluetooth, you can probably configure the controllers to the same controls.

Make it fullscreen, and bam, PS2/N64 on your PS3.

All that is true, Kehrosuki. But it would run so slow it would be unplayable. If the PS2 could run off of software alone, than there would have been no need for the PS2 chip in the PS3 in the first place.

In other words, the PS2 backwards compatibility needed the hardware.

no, you can't, but you can do one better and install windows on top of linux. Then you get those programs. Better yet, people are constantly working on programs that work the same way as the ones you mentioned. So if you need to access files like wmv, there are ways around it. Generally takes alot of reading up tho. Good Luck!

Linux users did manage to access the RAM at one point, but sony doesn't want to allow users to be able to access the GPU, so they made a firmware update making it impossible to use the GPU. Kinda sux, but if they don't want you using it, I'm sure they got a good reason.

reason being they don't want you using the ps3 as a serious emulation engine for homebrew. The way I see it is they have crippled it. Such a shame! One of the reasons I got rid of my PS3 a year ago.
