Honda has been trying to copy this look for 30 years!!! they are smart enough to know it's one of the greats, true Macho but still sexy . My info though says he has the speed in top gear wrong, the big block cars which looked different were geared for about 30 mph per 1000 rpm , that would be 7 grand for 210 mph, also the small block car won the lemans race two times ! the same car, impossible ever since, the car was so good they outlawed it! someday !
@teaandpipe then again if you really do the math, 40 inches tall (little wind resistance), and weighs 908kg (550bhp per tonne!! about the same as a veyron)....itll still be faster than many cars of today. Also the MK II which ive had the luck to be in had the 7 liter V8 engine....that is alot different :D
@teaandpipe Now look at the entire engine (include all the shit like turbo's this doesn't need) size and weight and where that weight sits it the car. It may use more cc's for the power but it uses less size which allows a smaller car, less weight and has a far lower CofG for the motor. They built this thing to race - not to be a dyno queen.
I remember when they for sale in the back of Road & Track. A lot of them were track cars that were 'promised' to be street legal. I couldn't believe the styling, the pedigree and the fact that they were street legal. Almost too much for a teenager and his lust for the ultimate speeder.;-)
Im putting together an original engine from a GT40, Ford experimental XE-289 block,Gurney Weslake heads and 48 IDA Webbers, it will sound like this one.
Awesome sounds out the duel pipes, and a roar that would send shivers down Ferrari's neck for a few years. My all time favorite Ford, with no doubt in mind.
@2bidfilmsguy No, the Mk1 GT40's like the on in this video had 289 or 302 engines. The GT40 MKII and MKIV had 427s (7 litre) engines producing around 500b.h.p.
@2bidfilmsguy The MK1s like in this video that won the '68 and '69 Le Mans had 289cu/4.7 litre Ford V8's. The production models had detuned version of the racing car's 289cu engine.
@maikeru01 I'm guessing this was Dan Gurney's GT40, the bubble on top is called a Gurney Bubble because Dan Gurney is as tall as Jeremy Clarkson, if not taller. They had to put that bubble on top because that was the only way Dan could fit in it.
Despite being one of the all-time supercar greats. The aerodynamically challenged Countach could only achieve a tad over 180 mph in its fastest stock form.
Lol the guy speaks about his family

@teaandpie your gt-r was also turbo wich forces more air in so it makes the engine preform like a bigger engine.
