@MyOttoLink well, flour is stickier and holds things together better. Personally, I prefer using a cooked whole grain when I can since it's less dense and it digests better for me
@healthyvegan Cool. I didn't want to be presumptuous about that I was hoping to use the rice, but think I'll try the (brown rice) flour, after hearing your advice. Thakns for writing back--and so quickly!! I'm enjoying your videos, and am learning from them.
@MyOttoLink if you search my channel or site, I have a few veggie burger recipes based on whole grains - try searching sweet potato patties or cajun veggie burger
@TheAlacransilla yum, nice idea to swap a carrot for a parsnip! those guys are tricky to get in sometimes :) I'm so glad you - and your kids - enjoyed them, and thanks for sharing your results!!
@2006kcl yup, but they get a lot mushier so don't cook them in too much water, or for too long, and you might have to add more flour or some ground flax to hold them together :)
YUMMY...i cant wait to try this!!! I already tried the black bean burger but ive been wanting to do something with lentils since they are my favorite!!! Thanks so much for posting!!! Peace.
@Danielleper1 you can throw some flax in there if you want, but I find they stick together just fine and prefer not to heat up flax seeds - psyllium is another one to try instead of flax. The oil is just enough for frying - I use about 1/2 a teaspoon per batch, and I usually fit 3 or 4 in a pan per batch. have fun with them! :)
Hey! Im trying this recipe today I'm really excited. Do you have any recipes on kelp? I bought some kelp the other day but I don't know what to do with it
@lizsy775 you know, I never really feature kelp in recipes, but use it while cooking. My favorite way is to put it in the water while cooking dried beans - makes them easier to digest, and the minerals from the kelp seep into the water and then on into the beans as they absorb. You can take the kelp out at the end, but I often blend it in when I make a bean dip. I also sometimes cut it into little bits with my kitchen scissors into a veggie soup, or a miso broth with tempeh & green onions.
i am sooooo glad that you do recipes for vegans. i've been contemplating going raw, but there are so many foods that I will miss out on. i am definitely going to try this tomorrow. thanks for sharing!
Hey, I made this burger last night and loved it!!!! It's so bomb I can stop eating the patties. I eating them alone, with anything else and they are delicious.
Going vegan has several health benefits, like lowering the chance of having certain heart diseases. Still, it is crucial to enjoy a vegan meal. I wish to share some vegan recipes but youtube wont let me post here, so I put it on my profile.
hmm you'd think someone following a plant based diet would be more at peace and not nit picking, but you handled it well healthy vegan :). and i want to thank you for making these videos! i used to love watching food network, but after going vegan its not quite as fun and i had been hoping for some vegan cooking videos and yours are great!
@peppers2400 What's more annoying is people who find it necessary to complain and nit pick at people. Oh wait, it's not annoying, just sad, because people who bully are only reflecting their own insecurities.
Awesome! This is a great recipe! :) I have pretty much all of the ingredents you used, so I'm thinking of trying to make these tonight. I had been trying to figure out how to make some sort of lentil burger for a while, so thanks so much for posting this recipe. :)
@laushades Thanks so much for the note - I'm glad you enjoyed it! It does really well with different seasonings, too, but this is my favorite combo :)
Hi! Sounds wonderful, I'm going try this for sure. Do you think that split pea lentils would make a good burger (I love the flavor) or a combination of? Thanks!
@Pippilly Yeah, the flavor would be great - the only difference is that split peas tend to be a bit drier than lentils when they cook so you may need to add a bit more water when mixing up the batter. Let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching!
@iDiggMGL Actually most breads don't have eggs or milk in them. Check the ingredients to be sure before you buy, but usually only egg bread has eggs. Focaccia bread usually uses milk powder, but most of the breads you see don't have any dairy either. Muffins & cakes DEFINITELY have eggs and usually milk ingredients unless they say they're vegan.
@healthyvegan Cool, thanks. I literally started my vegan path yesterday and have been SOOOOOO overwhelmed. I mean, I live in LA, Ca, where there are plenty vegan markets......but there are no vegan markets in my school, so when I have a slight break in my 7:00pm class, I have to be careful what I get.....it's meat central!! It was hard enough to be a vegetarian there, but vegan??? I have to take my own food everyday lol
@iDiggMGL ooo, yeah, eating out can be pretty tricky, especially in caf-type places where things are already prepared. But you know what? taking your own food is a pain, but it will probably be a lot healthier than what you would wind up eating, even if it was vegan! Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions!
loove these burgers...made them a couple of times...i'll write the recipe in my 'favourite recipes' book =)...just about to make them...only have 'yellow' lentils in the house right now..lets see if it works=)I'll let you know =) peace and a lovely day to anybody who reads this =)
@37mamak awesome, so glad you like them! Yellow lentils would be fun, and basil is a great addition. I actually made them the other day and added oregano! ;) great minds...
@healthyvegan Okay, I made a batch and I can't get over how delicious they are! What a great way to sneak carrots into my diet, lol Thanks for sharing!
Good job! I am going to subscribe because I think I am going to try all your recipes. I am partly a vegan. I wish a girl like you..... he he.. not easy to find^_^
Cool. Nice to see a recipe that doesn't require £30's worth of ingredients that I'm only going to use a 10th of. I think I have all the things you mentioned already! *Goes downstairs to make veggie burgers*
Not so well. There was too much moisture in the mix so I had to use loads of flour which made them taste a little funny. My fault entirely, not Heather's
Yeah, I'm all about not spending a ton on ingredients - you can get so much nutrition from some of the least expensive things!!
Too bad they needed so much flour... another thing you can do to dry out the mix if you run into that problem again is to use some cooked millet or rice or even dry rolled oats - I have a few other veggie burger videos posted if you check out my youtube listings - I don't think they let me post links! Ground nuts & seeds are amazing too, but a bit pricier...
i was just wonder if you can you use regular flour? this recipe looks delicious.
loser2356 2 days ago
@loser2356 thanks :) you can use any type of flour, but to keep it healthy whole grain flours are best (whole wheat, spelt, oat, brown rice, etc)
healthyvegan 1 hour ago
This looks so delicious.. I wanna make it now. :)

What difference do you notice between using cooked (short grain) brown rice, and using the flour (even brown rice flour)?

how much?
