Very nice, emotional and sometime even sad movie. The acting was brilliant. I'm not a big Meryl Streep fan but she's very talented and looked stunning here. Amy Adams was no less imressive - she deserved the Oscar for this supporting role and finally Philip Seymour Hoffman and Viola Davis were amazing as well

This movie clearly portrays the sad destruction of the Catholic Church by the modernist changes that began with Vatican II Council; the bad fruits that were predicted 40 yrs. earlier have come to fruition today, the sex abuse scandal is just the tip of the iceberg, things are so much worst and sadly, Catholics today are a tiny minority.

Man, I had to go see this by myself, nobody was interested in seeing it but I knew it was going to be amazing. The acting is superb and it's great how they leave the end open. They stay true to real life. Things happen in life that are left unanswered and you just have to come up with your own conclusion. It's important to note how sure Meryl's character was that the priest was guilty. That right there is called instinct. Sometimes you just know.

Had he not had a history of sexual abuse, he would not have taken it to the heart as much as he did when she told him about her contacting his previous church.....

It is inferred in the movie that people like him is able to keep everything hidden from the spotlight with the help from superiors. First of all, the kid drank wine, lost his undershirt, developed feelings for Father Flynn and his mother even let the relationship grow. Father Flynn took advantage from the boy by "nursing" him from the kid's father and from the bullying environment the kid experienced everyday. Some boys did not stand father Flynn as well. Why? Because there was something wrong.

I attended schools like this when I was growing up. Especially the teachers, and principal. I had a piano teacher similar to the Principal. Maybe this is why I never excelled in Piano.

I am sure Catholic school today aren't as strict as this one, and definitely they are not allowed to perform corporal punishment, I remember when nuns use to wash your mouth out with soap, lock you in the coat room, and hit your knuckles with rulers. This was during the late 60's and 70's, when I was in elementary school. As I got older and attend a all girls catholic school they would say "kt" girls, which meant "knees together". They were strict about wearing uniform. No wearing of pants.
