  • Nice presentation! I really liked how you implemented everyday objects (hotel cards) into extended stay. I think sometimes when magicians use cards and coins for sleight or other effects that it's sort of a "given" that they are going to be fooled somehow. But, when you used the three hotel cards to do those effects, it has a much more magical "how did you do that?" feeling to it. Very nice I hope to see you using everyday objects much more in the future. Big fan.

  • Hi Shawn, since your Lecture in Luxemburg I wait impatiently for this release :-) and finally I have ordered these amazing cards. Because I work for a Restaurant/Hotel twice a week, this will be perfect to put in my show. I thank you for your contributions in magic :-)

I promise, I will work very hard on my routine and maybe someday i can share it with you.

    Kind regards

    Benito

  • One question: as a Mentalist this seems to have a lot of potential here, but in my opinion it will only be good if it seems totally fair. To me this means being able to allow the spectator to stop ANYWHERE.

Ideally I'd like them to wait for as long as they like before saying stop, because I believe if you get 30 or so cards into the packet then it looks far more like a free choice. So my question is... Can they stop anywhere, can it be as late as they want?

    xx

  • @ThomasWadeFraser Hi Tom,

Never during the process does the spectator ever say stop. If you watch the video the spectator stops when the feel comfortable. I have presented the effect countless times and the spectator has NEVER said they felt they were forced anything. I can't really answer your question to your satisfaction, but I can say in 98% of my presentations they have stopped anywhere they wished and it was as late as they wanted... hope that makes it clearer for you...

  • Dear Shawn that was amazing, as expected from you

  • Wow ! Interesting 8-O

  • its a wonderful effect, Shawn. keep up the great work. looking forward to seeing more of your material.

  • Shawn: You continually produce thought provoking, meaningful magic. I really like this!

  • Seems like a lot of explanation for not much excitement.

  • @Sporky0 Interesting observation. I really wasn't going for excitement and more for mystery and amazement in this particular effect with Extended Stay. I've presented it for many clients and even well known magicians who were stunned and amazed. I've never really been into presenting magic to get folks to "run around screaming" like a Blaine or Angel show ... Thanks for your input though. -shawn

  • @ShawnFarquhar No I didn't expect running around screaming. I probably could have worded it slightly better.

It kind of felt like telling a joke and then having to explain it afterwards. Some of the oomph of the joke is lost when people don't inherently understand it, and I feel it was slightly the same with this trick.

Then again I'm not the world famous magician here. It was really just my opinion, I'm sure many people would disagree with me.

I'm interested to see what else they can do.

  • @Sporky0 Yours is a valid opinion. This was to be a pseudo mentalism/nlp kind of effect where the effect is more about the explanation. Not your kind of effect, and I can appreciate that totally. Regardless if people disagree with you, it's your opinion. I think you'll probably like stuff such as the extending of the key card as shown in the other trailer... and some of the card stuff using Bill Simon's double prediction. Cheers...

  • @ShawnFarquhar I have to say, I was most certainly intrigued by the extending key card in the trailer.

Also, just to add to my previous comments, I think that this particular trick probably would stump me if it were being performed on me. I think part of the "blame", if one can even call it that, should be put on the fact that it is not presented to the viewer. The viewer does not get to see the keycard in detail to make the proper associations for this trick to have it's full effect.

  • @Sporky0 It's one of those things that comes down to personal style. I personally always use wordy presentations, and there's a part of me that always feels like such presentations are inherently less interesting, but experience has shown that if you can hold an audiences attention, then that slow build-up of one thing after another can be very powerful, and although most people probably couldn't pull this particular presentation off, Shawn definitely can.
