Moscow 1980 - Well-organised, strict, simple, beautiful, one of my best (4,5*)

Los Angeles 1984 - Kitschy, lame, the american style (2*)

Seoul 1988 - Pretty, oriental, but nothing really deserving to be reminded (3*)

Barcelona 1992 - Kicks ass at some parts, really original, but there are details that really overcome my taste (boats etc.) (3,5*)

When representative of my country (Kozakiewicz) was fighting for Olympic medal, whole stadium was against him so when finaly get it he showed them what he fought about them by famous "kozakiewicz gesture" :D

I still think it was a tactical error to set the doves free before lighting of the fire in Seoul '88. I still love the Barcelona opening, it was spectacular! Thanks for including Freddie Mercurys' voice and the archer who sets the fire is still amazing.If I remeber correctly, he was a paraolympics athlete. Great video!

I think the 2016 olympics will be chosen between Rio and Chicago. Tokyo has lost support from the city, and Madrid is in Europe, and the IOC tends to avoid having consecutive olympics on the same continent (2012 London Olympics)

no, i didnt say thats what everyone needs, you put words in my mouth. but seriously, there is not enough transportation to be effective there in all areas and suburbs . dt, sure theres great transportation there but it would just in convenience people to find alternate routes and ways, lame but true. does chicago have park and ride parkin lots where u drive to the train station park and then take the train? i didnt see that there. Calgary has that. works beautifully .

Pues la verdad estoy totalmente de acuerdo con que barcelona fue un parte aguas, los catalanes de rifaron, desde el 92 las inaguraciones no son iguales, cada año tratan de hacerlas mejor, pero la clave de Barcelona 92 fue el glamour con el que la presentaron... la antorcha que entro o no... no importa en su momento fue verdaderamente incleible!!!!

y bueno ni que decir de la musica, el tema de Mercury-Caballe simplemente inolvidable!!!!!

I loved Barcelona, but I'm spanish, so I'm not objective XD We had Ryuichi Sakamoto, Freddy Mercury composed a beautiful song, and everything was very artistic. Installations and architecture were also spectacular, just try to search "torre de calatrava", or "villa olimpica barcelona" on google images. The Olympic stadium may look modest, but it was constructed respecting the appearing of the old stadium from 1929, also very artistic I think.

The Olympic idea is for countries to come to together in Peace & Harmony. Policitcs have been part of the Olympics almost from the beginning, such as the 1936 Games, who can forget the tragedy of 1972, the boycotts of 1980 & 1984. The opening and closing cermonies are for the host country present their ideal. In my opinion (for all that it is worth) the best Opening Ceremonies were the Barcelona games, who could forget the liting of the cauldron. And the worse were Beijing, to militaristic!

and I agree on Beijing. it would have been better had it not tried to strive to be so perfect. Sydney was the best opening ceremony ever imo! athens believe it or not had the best closing ceremony imo.

Because the way of doing great ceremonies started in Moscow, despite many people believe that it was in LA '84. Before Moscow the Opening Ceremnies were the parade and some artistic performance.

The arrow did "hit" the target...let me explain...the arrow crosses a curtain of gas, and, obviously, it starts the fire. An indirect way to light the olympic flame.

I liked those ceremonies, each and everyone has its special touch. I liked at lot Barcelona92, Seoul88, Athens2004...and a little less the Americans...sorry!

I remember most of these - one rule to remember is, if you're going to release doves like they did in Korea, do it AFTER you light the torch. Otherwise many of those doves might perch on the rim of your torch bowl, and when that torch is lit...well, as one newspaper writer commented at the time, "Dove Chars"...
