I believe most if not all the animation was done by the Japanese (similar to most of Transformers: The Movie being done in Japan. Many of these also come originally from Japanese toy commercials.

Some of the best Transformers animation came from the commercials. Especially the 1987 line, which had animation comparable to the movie itself.

I really hope that all of this animation still exists somewhere in a vault. I know some of it was used for the opening themes of seasons 4 and 5.

We can only hope that somebody finds it and that it didn't suffer the same fate as the moon landing footage.

One of the best Transformers tributes out there. Full marks for originality in using rarely seen toy-ad footage blended with a rarely heard 80's pop track. The scenes from the '86 Film fit well. I like how the video ends with Springer and the final scenes from the cartoon opening & it gets kind of emotional. More shots of Punch/Counter-Punch from the Headmasters series would enhance the video as well as scenes from the Fort Max Vs. Scorponok rumble in the series finale. 4.5 stars out of 5.

The cartoon was supervised by Hasbro, who was only interested in selling toys. They would drop memos to Sunbow (the production house that made the series) saying, we haven't been selling enough toys of this character, so we want to see him in more Eps and Sunbow had to obey. After season 1 Tranformers had to deal with a rushed production schedule so the writers couldn't start over from sctatch once something was scripted and had to insert characters where they could.

Most of the later models of the G1 line never made it to the cartoons. Although they were prominately featured in the comic book series. The only animation there was of them was the commercials. Great video.

I really do wonder sometimes who the original G1 cartoon would have turned out if there had been a PROPER season 5, giving the chance for the Pretenders, Double Targetmasters, Powermasters, 2nd generation Headmasters, Seacons etc to appear.
