Here's something to counteract its overpoweredness. Make the chances of someone playing as it very low. Not saying it will only spawn in set places like the tank. Say the odds of getting it when you're spawning are something like 1/20.

Meh. I like the bloodrage idea, but everything else seems a little impossible to achieve. The Chameleon would have to be un-melee-able (is that a word?) and would have to gain almost as much health as the tank and immunity to fire in order for it to be a successful survivor imitator. I just don't see it happening. Perhaps a different power?

this is actually a pretty good idea, however some things would be a bit difficult once this "infected characted" was finally balanced: a survivor can see another survivor's name right above them, as well as a blue 'halo' around the character when obstruction is in the way. However, i do suggest that the chameleon, if implemented, may also be used with hero closet's, just so that survivors have an even harder time telling friend from foe. However, these are merely suggestions

Actually, Spitter obviously had acid reflux disease. All the L4D Special Infected clearly have their traits stem from a known condition, short of the witch.

Hunters have a remapped bone structure to enable such insane jumps, Spitters have Acid Reflux, Chargers had all the protein in their left arm move to their right, Smokers somehow shoot thier Small Intestine at survivors (ew), etc etc.
