  • Bacon is from Ireland not England

  • perspective is someting of the past BAH

  • BLA-warning

  • what is the song at about 36 minutes? 36:00

  • Don't bring the artists closer to us! Leave them! Allow them to remain ephocally mysterious in the minds of those of us who likes art.

  • 0:26:02 i thought this was a painting

  • what is the name of the music at 1:50 ?

  • 0:33:52

Agreed. Pop art gives modern art a bad rep.

Koons, Warhol, Hirst, Emins, all garbage.

  • this is the best documentary i've ever seen. the artists, the music, the host. it's perfect.

    where can i buy it?

  • I love your video, it looks old. check out my look on modern art please and tell me what you think! - i have 2 videos relating to modern art, and I'm new to the concept

  • Henry Moore saying that art seperates us from the animals yes that is true however modern art i.e. non representational art tends to annoy and alienate the vast majority of our society. What does that tell you?

  • This is so cheesy and sycophantic. I can't believe that Orson did this. It makes him sound like a kitsch narrative from the worst sentimental movie. There is no critical dialogue here. There is nothing of intrinsic value in any work of art. Nothing that assures it of immortal greatness. That people still consider Picasso great does not mean that people in the future will. He may be thought of as an idiot symptomatic of an idiotic age.

  • Funk it... I'll make art to touch a woman's boob too! 1:28:47

  • I love how we can see an auction from back in the day! Its interesting to understand how the work of cezanne would go for that much money so close to the time of the paintings origin; even more so if we think about the impact of art on society and how the likes of Hirst are making so much more than that nowadays!!

  • "The blacks are making more of a name for themselves on the art scene..."

    WTF!!!!

    THE BLACKS????

  • Thank you for this great upload!

  • Why is there a big confusion, they say modern art while it's contemporary art???

  • @AnasTangi I think your a little confused...

  • @oj180 I don't care, mr professor with your "I know everything" comment....pfff....I was looking for an explanation, not for an obnoxious answer.

  • @AnasTangi hardly obnoxious ( nor am i a mr, or a professor.) I apologise if you were looking for an answer; modern art began at the turn of 20th century, encompassing movements such as cubism (most recognised as modern) surrealism, pop art etc... one followed the other until art became so indefinite, we currently face an age of contemporary art. Hirst would be contemporary.... picasso is modern. hope that helps a bit.

  • Wow, so many artists that I've never seen alive. Several of my heroes are in this video. It's amazing

  • great!! thank you

  • Leonardo Da Vinci was a great artist :-)

    Actually, I prefer Picasso %\

  • Subscribe to my documentary channel: payneshurvell

  • @PedroNicanoreTV Haha, Im going to read that as a joke...

  • @stanchinsky lol

  • @stanchinsky

and not a very good one..

  • @stanchinsky you are what you paint.

  • @PedroNicanoreTV I paint canvas... and wood... ;)

  • lol

  • @PedroNicanoreTV I would not call Austin Spares work crappy, and the man was a "bum" (in dress and living).

  • @GethusSathanus I don't care. Leave me alone.

  • @GethusSathanus LOOK I don't know why the Jonas Brothers won't let you in their band, but that's MY OPINON, so please, leave me alone and stop picking on me.

  • @PedroNicanoreTV Well, now i just have to. Why did you reply twice mongrol. You want attention and i give it to you. Why wont you love me?!!!

  • @GethusSathanus Fine, I love you.

  • @PedroNicanoreTV loooool i completely agree lool

  • @PedroNicanoreTV Yeah, those impressionists all sucked. Sloppy. Only someone into dressing well can be an artist. Good argument.

  • @PedroNicanoreTV Im pretty sure Michelangelo wore the same clothes for months at a time yet I doubt someone as "high class" and prissy as you would say something negative about his work.

Besides, who wants to look like a hairless mole rat that works in a cubicle all day?

Who wants to paint pictures of kittens and trees all the time?

Modern art has some failings, but it also has some masterpiece quality work.

  • @RyanDemaree Thank you. I am very high class and prissy.

Keep doing and saying whatever it is you do and say. I'm pretty sure you'll get somewhere. As far as Michelangelo: don't care, he's dead, and so is pretty much everyone else in this video. Now please, leave me and my opinions alone.

  • @PedroNicanoreTV oh yeah. god, you are ..extremely stupid.

  • @MrEzi0n

'extremely stupid' Oh? Why? Art is simply about some elites with investments who create a mystique around certain movements, currents & individuals. The fact that most art since a century or so is 'intellectual' clearly evidences that no creativity touching 'the absolute' is involved at all. Art today is a similar kind of commodity as a Gucci bag, and everyone knows people don't own Gucci gags because of its divine design.

  • @PedroNicanoreTV

How interesting that your comment was flagged down! You are perfectly right, which irritates people because they're living in the 'Emperor's New Clothes' tale, always tipping their hats at whatever comes from authority, completely lacking personal discernment or an actual angle. They 'think' in dead slogans, such as 'SURREALISM WAS AN IMPORTANT MOVEMENT & bla bla bla' but they're not equipped to actually evaluate art from some sort of actual personal...

  • @PedroNicanoreTV

...standard, that is in some way connected to more absolute values, the very values that allow an ACTUAL assessment of what art really is and of what really is art. Most art is indeed complete garbage because their progenitors were bleak, disconnected individuals, of course decreted to be 'geniuses' by their mentors and the entire infrastructure, which is what the public subsequently regurgitates, while aggressively posturing about their 'culture'. Pfft.

  • Why is there a warning?

  • @kay333ate644 Because its not in line with what i 'usually' upload... It was a warning to my subscribers...

  • Comment removed

  • @missleeish My source wouldn't help you at all... Unfortunately I don't know the production house, but the director and date are in the info box... The end credits might be of insight to you as-well... Hope this helps some...

  • This is an incredible find. The interviews, footage and for good measure Orson Welles narrates.
