This was a double delight for me. Listening to this wonderful Bach prelude and watching the musician perform and become one with the music. . .truly a musical and spiritual treat!
Listening to this prelude fills me with great warmth and emotional satisfaction. You have interpreted this fine work with much thoughtfulness. It reminds me of Albert Schweitzers interpretation many years ago. Thank you.
First, what an incredible instrument in what is such a beautiful church!!
...some pipes date back 500 years!!!
And you Pieter, have the gift of marrying the acoustics of the building with the instrument and with what the writer of the Music centuries ago intended for us to hear. You play with your heart, mind, body and soul, something other organists can't ever even match...
I would like to hear you play live either in the Martinikerk or the Kerk in Farmsum.
I perhaps phrased my comment not too clearly: I meant that it is doubtful that today's organ builders could achieve such perfection and magnifcence of sound and tone as in the Schnitger organ at Groningen's Martinikerk...
Your interpretation of this piece is wonderful. Simple, largely unadorned. The subtle hesitations in tempo at very carefully considered points really bring out some of the beautiful dissonances, and make the melody "sing" - no mean feat for a wind instrument. The registration and recording together lay bare Bach's interweaving lines and make them very accessible to the listener. Thank you for recording and posting. What a treat!
I agree mate!! Tis well done!! At once a truly emotional and well thought-through performance. The performer knows the music with both his mind and heart....
Lovely. This is such a marvelous and introspective piece. Thanks for letting us share it with you. Are you the organist there? I hope to come and see the kerk this year some time. Keep posting when you get the chance.

Magnificent sound: can today's organ-builders really achieve such perfection?
zimnaya 2 years ago
@zimnaya
No actually, this organis very old, i believe some pipes are over 500 years old. but it's been restored in the last 30 years, by Ahrend i believe.

I really love this sound and the composition.
I would also love to repaint the green walls with somethhing more palatable to spending much time practicing there.

Absolutely lovely. Best interpretation I've heard with Peter Hurford's interpretation in 'Great Organ Works' (Decca)
