My first concert was when I was 3 years old at Pine Knob, my dad took me to go see Sammy Hagar. My dad had long curly blonde hair, and with glasses on, looked almost identical to Sammy. My dad put me on his shoulder and walked right past the security guard and next thing you know, we are backstage with Sammy. He talked to me and my dad for 15 minutes, and told my dad that his daughter and I (who were the same age at the time) should have a play-date. Still waiting for the call Sammy! ;)

I always like the original band members, however I think he did an outstanding job as lead for his time with the band... Obviously, there's some animosity between him and Eddie, however I believe there's always three sides to every story, Sammy's, Eddie's, and the real side. However, like all great marriages, they end in a nasty divorce...

Mike Anthony was against Dave coming back in 1996 (even more so than the VH bros were) and backed Gary Cherone. He is Sammy's buddy and would be a wedge between Ed and Dave. There is *NO* place in Van Halen for a Sammy Hagar stooge and someone who is anti-DLR.

@MrVHWolf : I've been a fan of VH for 28+ yrs. Wolfgang Van Halen SUCKS on bass guitar & backing vox. Michael Anthony was the back bone of VH rythum section & backing vox. The guy is a millionaire many times over. When VH was done with Gary Cherone they weren't doing anything, they were basically broken up... so Mikey started to jam with Sammy & other musicians. He doesn't need VH, VH needs him. Don't think so? Go see them LIVE with Wolfie on Bass. The kid is no Michael Anthony thst's for sure.

@Sideler74 Well, i've seen them live and he sounded fine....and i can guarantee you that Mikey still wishes he were part of Van Halen, even if he wont admit it......it'd be great if he was still in the band, but he's not and Wolfie is growing in to the spot just fine....shit happens and i'm moving on with Van Halen 2012, but you can remain bitter as long as you feel necessary, your call!! I really think Hagar is credible as a true rock n roll musician. Hes done it all and theres no cliche there. He's rocked everywhere. But hes got a good atttitude. That's the difference.

Loved Sammy's solo stuff, but, I'm sorry, Van Halen will always be Dave and Eddie. When 5150 came out I thought it was better than anything they ever did with Roth. Listen to it now. It's OK, but doesn't hold up to the Dave years.

I guess the people taking shots at Hagar are still hung up on "old" Van Halen. You know, the band that hasn't put out an album in 27 years? Yeah that one.
The last time Van Halen put out an album with Roth, there was no internet as we know and use it, we were using Commodore 64s, handheld mobile phones were one year old and MTV was still playing music!
Let it go. It's over. Roth is bald with a WAY too goofy smile, and Eddie looks like a toothless 90 year old, but is twice as disoriented.

@hinson5150 While I'm sure you're an expert on blowing, the fact is that even though Roth has been back for 3 years, there's still no new Van Halen album because Eddie has become such a control freak that he has destroyed the creativity and looseness that made Van Halen the best band in hard rock. Hagar is living his life, having fun. He's richer than any of the other members of VH and even pulled Roth out of the gutter about 7 years ago when he let Roth co-headline with him.

@sickphil71 Dude, look at the band's name. What's it called? It's not just Eddie but it's him and Alex. I am sure they worked together on the songs. If they didn't agree with each other (most of the times), Alex might be another original member dropped from Van Halen, which would be more depressing since they are brothers.

Furthermore, Eddie, while I love him as an artist, IS a control freak, which probably at least partially explains why they've had a revolving door at the lead singer postion for the entire 37 years that this band has existed.

@kgp8 Led Zeppelin was Jimmy Page's band but he had the the good sense to listen to John Paul Jones' input and to let it him have some part in the creative process . Granted , there is noone of Jones' talent or understanding of song structure in VH , but I still think VH would be bettre served if they were more openminded to the other guys' suggestions
