Ever watched the Season 4 episode on Thomas and Friends titled "Bowled Out?" Let's hope this actual Class 40 diesel doesn't suffer the same problems like in the TV series. LOL
Andania conservatively maintained the steam locomotive tradition of named diesels. A lot of diesel namers in recent years have been just daft or meaningless just like 47803 Woman's Guild.
@MickMoye If you mean just after the engine had started, when the sound was going up and down, its called 'hunting' and its because the engine was cold and the governor on English Electric engines cant decide what revs to settle on. It stops happening once the engine has warmed up.
awesome........what a beast

Was there someone in the engine room tweaking the back-bias on the double distill valves to get all those different exhaust sounds or... ?

No idea mate, I just had a good idea that it was going to get started when I saw someone climb in the cab, so I stood there and filmed it!

Usual for a 40, takes a while for all the cylinders to get to the right speed in sync with the fuel injectors
