You might be right if he didn't do it all the time. he's injured a number of different players with this technique. just search "bruce bowen foot defense" and watch the video. he also got tangled with vince carter trying to undercut him, and it almost provoked an incident.

First, in the video above, this is the opposite of the previous ones so he still has to aim with his back turned to step On Nash's foot as opposed to underneath. As for the older clips, I admit he crowds the shooter but anyone who was taught good defensive basketball knows you contest the shot, pivot and get in position to box out the shooter for the rebound which, if you're doing it right, means you have to crowd the shooter after the release.

Yeah, but nobody extends his foot into the exact place the shooter is about to land. I'll admit it's a good way to get into a shooter's head, you know, by making him fear for his health. but it's still dirty. any deliberate play that puts another player at risk is definitively dirty.

That is a good point. Clearly the NBA hasn't drawn the line ... yet. As far as I know Bowen has gotten away with this tactic as long as there hasn't been any contact involved, but I'm sure the NBA is going to be watching him closely now. There's no precedent for this just like there was no precedent for Kobe's "follow through" elbows, but that doesn't mean the league can't ban it whenever it wants to. Until that happens, I dunno what to think ... I guess it's just a dirty (but legal) play.
