@OrecksRule223 no, I wasnt there, but my dad was using it with the hose to vacuum out an old floor air vent in an old house and he couldn't see what he was picking up. probably a penny or something. I still havent fixed it. Its just sitting out in the garage
I have two of them. one of them has a broken fan and I need to get out there and fix it one of these days. and you said along with another one- what other model you looking for?
I haven't spent a lot of time with the vacuums lately. (I've been gaming too much...oh, and let's not forget watching the girls on G4 I know that I can never have)
it's the fan. the old Kirby was just sitting there in the corner in the pantry not being used, so I took it to the house dad was restoring. I'm thinking of replacing the broken fan with a kevlar this time. The thing is, someone wanted me to rebuild a D50 for them and wanted it as original as possible-meaning also metal fan. I put my "blood, sweat and tears" into it(I know, it sounds kinda corny) I don't plan on using it anytime soon, so I'm just going to leave it the way it is for now.
Could you try selling two of those metal fans to Aaron aka MaxxArcade? He has both a 560 and a Classic III, and both their original fans had been replaced since.
I had a problem with one like that once. I kept taking it apart and checking the bearings and making sure the armature was strait and when I got it back together, it sounded ok for a little while(maybe an hour) then it started vibrating so bad it was kinda like one of the old electric weedeaters that would kinda make you wanna scratch your hands. I never did figure out what was wrong with it. maybe someone ran it too long with bad bearings and it messed up the armature
Well, the last time I almost had my own D80, the total was about $120 (about £70-80), so not that expensive, but I did manage to sweet-talk the seller into selling it to me for that price, if only they bothered to ship it, at least I got my money back though!!!
The D80's a lovely looking machine, I like the green colour, some hate it, it's just one of those Marmite topics, you either hate it or love it!!! :D
its one of my verry faverout kirbys but then again all of them are great. it was the first kirby to have that sorta handle aswell and theres a beautiful one on ebay at the moment
Before I get any other Kirbys, I want a D80 first, mainly cos I can never find one in a decent state that doesn't cost the earth, aswell as having one of those horrid Eureka F&G bags attached to it!!! :(
Looks great but yeah, one of the fins on the metal fan is most likely chipped or broke so you may have to replace it with a Kevlar (unless your able to find another metal one). I had to do this with my D50.
yes it does have a broken fan...and I've known it for a long time. You know the older houses with the heat/air vents on the floor? Dad was using it with the hose and picked up something he shouldnt have(we dont know what cuz he couldnt see. Although I do have boxes of the old metal fans, I may still go with the kevlar. I haven't decided
I used the hose on the G4 mom used to have to suck up a pile of pennies once trying to see how tough it was(and I also hated that vacuum, so I was trying to destroy it) the pennies didnt break the fan, but they bent the pennies.
I just left the broken fan on it just to freak people out. I cant stand to be in the same room with it running for more than a couple seconds. To make this video, I actually set up a tripod and went in the house to plug it in with the door shut.
Sure does needs new fan. My G4 had metal fan and broke sounded exactly as video.

Does this D80 also remind us of the one D50 that hoover1060 has a video of on his channel?

The replacement fan used in original production of this unit was part #119055.

That's what my first LegendII was like, broken fan and vibrated like a jack hammer!!! All it took was a new fan and it was like new again... :)
Just out of curiosity, how many metal fans have you got? I wouldn't mind having a couple spare myself... :)

I'll have to check out in the shed one of these days soon. I gotta try to find a hose out there anyway

oh how I wish you could get those in England
videovac 3 years ago
You can, sort of, just import one from the US and use a 240v-120v Stepdown transformer... :)
I will have one myself someday... :(
twocvbloke 3 years ago
the thing is though it would cost a bomb to import a kirby into England and its my mum who has the ebay acount not me
