  • woah this is an awesom short film, i could see that in a holleywood film, and the end where the robots connect to destroy everything is pure genius. you could use that and put like "72 hours earlier" at the end of that and make a movie

  • This is a great vid. Partly inspired me to build my giant killer robot. Check my vids to see my bot.

  • I first watched this video a 1.5 years ago. Loved it. Glad @fedalvar is getting the attention he deserves.

  • This video is pretty awesome.

It also just made me want an X-Com game developed with giant robots in it.

    Which would be totally awesome.

  • The direction is good. Use of CGI is also good. I'm more concerned with the script for the Evil Dead remake. A great director can only do so much with a bad script.

BTW: I thought 28 Weeks Later was superior to 28 Days Later in every way.

  • @Jak00125 Just to disagree. I liked 28 Weeks Later, but 28 Days Later felt much more original and left more of an emotional impact that 'weeks ever did.

  • "in a heart beat" by I think Brian Eno, it's off the 28 days & 28 weeks soundtrack.

  • @zmontgo john merphy

  • gantz

  • whats the song playing while everything is getting destroyed?

  • @Wobermen "In the House – In a Heartbeat" by John Murphy (not Brian Eno)

  • @mcbdpb>>it was a whole team that did this...check the link to the production company at the end..its funny how ppl say "talent"..you know what talent is in most cases... its having the money to not have to work and to do what you really want to do..it took more than a few days to do this..perhaps a few months or more..Im sure most ppl would be amazed at what they could do given the resources..

  • @sidsvids Hi I'm Mauro Rondan, I single handed modeled every single bit of CG you see in the short. I did it because I was fun to make. I was shot in 2 days and the only money used was to pay for a bus and food for the ppl that run around in different parts of montevideo. The camera and all the crew were free (friends :) ) After that we started with all the effects and putting alll togheter... That process was a couple of months of works spread in 3 years.

  • @MasterBolitz Outstanding Job, The Explosions look awesome.

  • he didn't make it.

  • I'm pretty sure no reporter would report the news on a bunch of giant alien robots walking around, even if they hadn't fired a shot yet. I also doubt a lady would film it with her camera. I think everybody would be terrified for their lives and get the hell outta there! Movies like to pretend that our careers/identities are more important to us than our lives.

  • @zcrosby -- yes you are right,-- but noone really watched the video for the behavior of people, noone cares. We all watched the video for the REAL COOL ROBOTS and havoc they caused.

  • So a CG guy is just offered 30mil..his imdb credits show no evidence of directing. 5min and 1hr and 5min are not the same..ie STORYLINE.

  • @sidsvids--- oh, with that talent -he will come up with a storyline tryst me ! This person is Smart !

  • GET THIS MAN A CONTRACT!!

  • This is REALLY NEAT! Too bad the video quality for YouTube is pixalated.

ANYWAY possible for a better quality video for YouTube?

  • Add &fmt=18 to the end of the URL. It helps a little bit

  • @808Kameleon watch in the real spanish version it is better quality

  • Thanks! I ALREADY DID and made that version my Favorite!

  • This short was really cool. my 7 & 9 yr old sons got excited, thinking it was a preview for an action packed movie comming up...I guess Hollywood thought the same when they watched it. This guy has talent to do this with such a snall budget. Imagine what he'll do with 30million, you gotta spin an epic from the short man, you owe us we're ur fans, dont forget about us when u do ur film.

  • I notice a little bit of Independance Day foootage was added. Just a little bit of cars fliping flying through the fire bomb.

  • wow....unbelievable....

  • This is a great short no wonder he has been offered to make a Hollywood movie, just shows what you can achieve on a shoestring budget. Am working on several CG shorts and know the long hours that go into producing a single render. Hes a legend

I had over 3000 hits in 3 days and I got to thank you guys on here, sadly I had to reapply my last vid due to a flaw but its back up thanks again

  • shweeeet!! he's using 28 weeks later music!^_^

  • coool!

  • that was the bees knees

  • death seems like such a relief. part of me wishes this would happen.

  • zcrosby my heart goes out to you. Push past your sadness and feelings of incapability and do a little something every day that will advance your true values -- the things you really care about.

  • @zcrosby--- Oh, my God you need Prozac

  • @mcbdpb been there done that. I'm not sure if I really believe pills to be a good solution. I think the real solution is in standing up to things that have put me down.

  • @zcrosby ---- Look zcrosby, you need to get counseling for depression, it's not right that your out look is so bleak. I'm sure you are hurting, but you owe it to yourself to seek help to feel better. Not everything in life sucks. I had to hit rock bottom to figure out that life is worh living. Please, please get some assisstance dealing with your sadness. We all have things that trigger us to feel anxious and helpless, talkng to someone might help you cope. GOOD LUCK. : )

  • thanks for the concern guy. I've been depressed as hell all through teenage years but that makes me something of a veteran dealing with it. I've had probably over 100 hours of therapy; I think psychology is good but I think it still has a long way to go; I'm looking into something called primal therapy because it seems legit.

ya there's nothing obviously bad in my life; my family's rich and very attentive, and I don't even have to work right now, just doing part time school.

  • @zcrosby ---- I was right you do need goals. make some plans and stick to them. You have way to much time on your hands. You said you are rich and don't have to work, and your going to school part time. This is a perfect time for you to travel ( if health permits) , and see whats out there. Learn !!!!

  • @mcbdpb but I still had a lot of sorrows in my life growing up. I would feel so badly for people, like poor people, anyone who suffers misfortune (which is everyone). I was overwhelmed by the agony that goes on in the world.

That, and my cousin was a real bully to me for years; like he would make bullies seem nice he was so demented. also friends and family were unload all their bullshit on me and expect me to take it with a smile.

now I'm trying to embrace the helplessness.

  • @zcrosby ---- If you feel sorry for people, go somewhere like guatemala (or any other poor country) go and assist. You can also learn Spanish while you are there !

  • @mcbdpb I wouldn't feel safe in an impoverished country; I wouldn't even feel safe in the U.S. I'm usually too scared to even go around town, or even go to school because I'm so worried about school shootings. I know that's the reason why I've been procrastinating with school for years. I'm sitting in class and all I can think about is how exposed and unsafe I am.

the world, my life, isn't safe enough for me to participate it. If I'm going to do anything in the world, it's reform it.

  • @zcrosby-- How are going to reform the world ? That is an unrealistic goal for someone that can't even feel comfortable in school. It's arrogant of you to think people all over the world want reform. Help yourself first, then go really see what is out there.

  • I know what is out there. Dishonesty. People aren't honest and they should be made to be, because their lies hurt us all. The reason we suffer is because we believe in lies, and have to devote our energies to protecting our lies from being exposed rather than towards what really matters.

I'm a part of humanity, whether humanity wants to recognize it or not. I know what is in the hearts of other people; it is my instinct to. We all know so much truth but we are suppressed from saying it.

  • @mcbdpb for example, why is it that we have hundreds of religions that say the same thing? I've recently joined mormonism but I see no difference in mormon doctrine and stoic literature, or islam or anything else.

people just have to pick fights because they don't feel safe. we can't even agree when we actually do agree!

I just wish people agreed more than they do. We don't agree because we are attached to lies that naturally lead us to pain. One thing I really hate is advertising.

  • @zcrosby--- No, we don't all have to agree, we have to learn to tolerance and move on. I went to Egypt in 2008, I 'm not Muslim, but I really respected their culture. In turn, I grew from the exprience, I observed The Call To Prayer , and it made me feel closer to God. -- It was a really fun trip as well, I saw the pyramids !

  • people are not free. answer me this question; do you feel the need to appear a certain way, regardless of how you feel or what you think?

I think we all feel such a need, and this makes us out of touch with ourselves. Humanity needs to be brought in touch with ourselves, and no society is in touch with the individual.

the world labels us all, and we must remove this label. there is nothing wrong with what we want. The world tells us there is, but if we were free we would do no evil.

  • @zcrosby --- I am who I am, I feel no need to fulfill a certain type. Once again you are being arrogant thinking that people don't feel Free to be who they are. Maybe you feel like your being pressed into a mold . The world doesn't label us, we choose who we want to be. We are given a choice to do right , or wrong !. That is called freedom of will. --- Even in communist countries/ radical Muslim countries people beleive in their sense of what is wrong or right.

  • ya but the world scares people. experiences scare people, subliminal messages scare people. the media puts us into a mold little by little and its too hard to get out of it. people are attached to useless objects that make their life a living hell.

I'm radical; I don't like possessions or money or the right to privacy. I don't like anything that divides humanity. If we were a united people then I think we could accomplish whatever we would see fit, and be satisfied.

  • @zcrosby --- you are assuming people are scared, people choose to fit a mold or not--- the media dosn't have that much power. Not all people are materialistic. You won't know who you really are untill start to make your own choices. Humanity is learning to tolerate each other's choices and differences. As far as privacy goes, we can not survive with out it, our inner thoughts and writtings sometimes should not be shared, in order to prevent embarrassment or discord.

  • I agree with you but I think our inner thoughts and writings should be shared, because there is nothing one person thinks or feels that other people don't. I don't believe in secrets anymore; I think if we were totally honest people then we would save ourselves a lot of grief.

When people hide themselves or parts of themselves then that hidden part still comes out but in unhealthy ways. I think radical honesty is the way to go so people don't get hurt.

  • @zcrosby --- Being honest is one thing, that 's telling the TRUTH about someone,or a situation. We all deserve the right to privacy, noone needs to know What I did in my home, and what I wrote to my dear friend, or thoughts about my rude neighor. This could all create discord, or embarrassment.

  • ya but embarassment is a good thing. it makes us less stuck-up. we're too stuck-up and worried about how we come across, and so long as we have secrets we're going to have to hide them, and it's awful having skeletons in your closet.

and think if you showed your secrets you would also get to know everyone else's secrets. wouldn't that be nice? we could have really genuine relationships with good understanding and no abuse.

the truth will set us free.

  • @zcrosby ----we are not talking about our own embarassment, we are being mindfull of others feelings. If we dislose something someone else feels that might bring a feeling shame, who are we to close other's shared thoughts. Secrets can be bad, if they are concerning someone's well being, for instance knowing of abuse, that is something to report. Once again relationships need honesty, having privacy preserves individualism.

  • @zcrosby --- You are confusing HONESTY, with PRIVACY.

  • I just don't like secrets because I think there is no way of keeping them from influencing the rest of your life and therefore influencing others.

I think people have a right to know what's going on in other peoples' lives, because we all effect each other. A lot of people live with awkward/uncomfortable/painful relationships because they don't know where they stand.

I agree privacy preserves individualism, but I think individualism is just another word for isolation and loneliness.

  • @zcrosby ---- Once again secrets are not the same as privacy. Privacy is the right to keep what someone does,or thinks to themselves if the chose to. Secrets as you call them, might be a form of not being forth coming in a relationship. Hence, not being honest. OR secrets might be something you chose not to disclose, in oder to protect someone. Sometimes secrets can be bad if they are related to abuse, then they should be dealth with by a professional.

  • @zcrosby --- No, people don't have the right to know what goes on in other people's lives. No one has the right to know who I date, how I handle my money,or what relgion I practice. That is called PRIVACY. Honesty is built up between to people, that what to share a relationship.

  • we're part of the same family; there should be no secrets between us or anyone else. you must agree that humanity is very divided and uncooperative as a whole, and this has made the world unequal and unfair.

think back to your life to a time when you really, really clicked with someone else really well. remember how great that trust was, and how you would never deny that person your help.

now imagine if all people could relate to each other like that. imagine if we were all best friends.

  • @zcrosby --- Once again you say secrets, probably really meanng not being forth coming or honest with each other. Once again we as a human race have the choice to do the right thing, but unfortunately people will be dishonest. Then when someone really outstanding comes along a makes a differance some of us make the choice to follow in their foot steps and become better people.

  • @mcbdpb I think people are dishonest because they feel like they will get rejected if they are honest about themselves. I think that a lot of the products in stores exist as disguises for people to wear because they think they need a disguise.

By secrets I mean really personal things, i.e. grief, rage, hatred, despair. The "sensitive subjects"; I think it would be best if we prodded our sensitive subjects and dragged them out of us, no matter how painful it is, b/c I think having

  • @zcrosby --- these secrets you talk about like grief, hatred, despair need to be dealth with a professional. Holding in despair and grief is not healthy. I agree some people are insecure, and feel that the latest fashion will make them feel better. But, that is only a quick fix, they also need to find counseling to see what makes them self loath,or feel inadequate.

  • unacknowleded feelings causes tension in us, makes us jumpy and paranoid and more want things like handguns or the death penalty or makes us greedy because deep down we're scared of being poor.

In short I think human beings are a family, and that we should treat each other as a family does. this would mean not having business; it would mean everything is free.

it needs to sink in how related we are to one another. if we knew that we would hold no secrets, because we wouldn't be ashamed.

  • @zcrosby ---we all need to be honest with each other, and create a enviroment of trust. But, the truth is not everyone will do the right thing. Once again Unacknwleded feelings, and seeking validation are on a more individual level, and need professional counseling to deal with the anxiety.

  • @mcbdpb ya it does need to take place on the individual level. but I think all individuals should be subjected to it; I think they should do it to students in school, and make it mandatory for adults to do as well.

I'm sick of living among people with unhealthy habits that bring us all down. Smoking must be related to pent-up tension and the need to belong (with other smokers).

Same with fast food and the advertising industry. Advertising tries to make it seem like you'll belong

  • if you buy what they sell. they never sell anything all that good or useful; the point of all the technology and furniture and stuff is to impress people. and that is a huge waste, because there are many people in the world suffering economically, not just emotionally and spiritually. also we shouldn't feel the need to impress people; its unhealthy.

I think people do things that don't make sense because they're trying to impress people either in the here and now, or people of their past.

  • @zcrosby - Young man, you seem full of deep intellectual thoughts, but a little too negative. I still think you need to talk to a counselor. It might help you put everything in perspective.

  • I try talking to counselors and it helps but I speak my mind best over the computer; when I'm in the presence of someone else, my mind gravitates a lot more towards giving them what they want.

I picked this behaviour up mostly from my cousin and other emotionally abusive people in my life. I have a great knowledge of things but my attitude is still that of a subordinate, low self-esteem yes man.

that's why I'm so negative; I'm not happy that abusive people just felt they could stomp all

  • over me like they did. But through a massive effort I've been able to drag myself out of the "it's all my fault" mindset and see my abusers for what they truly were.

now I look at the world and see the same thing; abusive people everywhere. there is good in people but most of the good is trampled by vindictive, hurting people. Like I said I'm trying to realize that I'm not invincible, because this thinking is where my negativity comes from. I expect the world to be my friend and when it isnt

  • I feel victimized and tricked, which I am, because the world is full of dirty tricks.

But I know what your saying, I have to stop being so critical and take a more positive, constructive attitude. I think if I fix my own self-esteem issues entirely, then I'll be better suited to fixing the self-esteem issues of the people in my life, and from there, the people of the world. but my main goal should be fixing the issues of my own head so thats what im trying to remember.

  • zcrosby, you must take responsibility for your own happiness. Surround yourself with positive people, and avoid negative toxic folks. Most of us experience the "dirty tricks" of which you wrote, but we let go of the negative, learn to choose our most trusted friends more carefully, and move on. Empower yourself with the knowledge that you can CHOOSE to be happy or unhappy; YOU decide how to respond to life experiences.

Here are some links for online therapy:

  • @mmdillons that's good advice thanks guy. I don't see your links though

  • @zcrosby -- so you are saying because I beleive in individalism , I am isolated . I don't think so, I'm very social, and opened mined. I embrace other cultures and feel secure in my skin. I think that by me being that way, is my own individualism. Loneliness is sadness, and should be dealth with a professional, it is a form of depression. A person can if lonely in a crowded room.

  • @zcrosby ---- Embrace trying to met and keep your goals - That gives you a sense of accomplishment, not helplessness.

  • @mcbdpb it's clear to me that I have no real control over my life, and that any control I think I have is an illusion. This realization is something I've been trying to reject from consciousness, and I think that's what depressed me and anxiety-ied me so badly.

I'm helpless. The more I fight that fact, the more I suffer. I know I can control things, but that control isn't guaranteed; I'm not invincible. I think that's what I've never wanted to accept. But it's starting to sink in :)

  • @zcrosby --- we all feel scared of our Mortality at one point or anthor in our lives, but we move foward. You are so young, and there are so many cool things to do, so many wonderful places to see. See the world, meet people of different cultures, and grow from it. And pass on the stories of your experience. Make plans, have goals, this is what keeps us going ! : )

  • pretty good for a $300 budget :P

  • Fantastic. A picture is worth a thousand words and your short said plenty about what someone can do with the technology that is available to the common person. Reminds me of the 405 CGI airplane short made years ago (I think it's still on YouTube). Go luck.

  • You so right Ana1990Mvd there are lots of people out there with a passion to make their dreams come true, this break though for the the little people in the CG community has show that it can be done.

I have a full time job, but I spend every second I have working on my CG projects shorts on a very short budget with no access to render farms or high spec power station, you got to make the most of what you got. What you said is so true.

  • Yes it can cost 300 and yes people SPEND their time here in Uruguay, its a place where people are willing to work or borrow work or equipment for free. That's the difference between the countries that think in terms of money and the countries who think beyond

  • Check out the lead in video to an old video Game called Mech Warrior. the robot are similar

  • Man talk about a bunch of jealous ass snipers. Don't bitch cus you didn't get a 30 million dollar deal.

Do better or shut the fuck up.

  • Awesome mate. Fantastic work.

I have to ask though. Why did they bother wasting all of those missiles and assault aircraft if they were just planning to nuke the city anyway?

  • Things didn't go as planned. It seems obvious.

  • i was thinking about it too.

  • This guy copied scenes from War of the Worlds and Independence Day. He actually got a deal for this? Hollywood must be desperate.

  • Please...everybody copies everybody else. Intentionally or not. The point is that he demonstrated the skills that it takes to produce a film on a shoestring and instill emotion in the viewer. Both, are far easier said than done.

Why Uruguay? Why not? Aliens would just as well land in Lithuania. They would have little concept as to our perverted little system of international scuffles.

From space, it's all just a great blue marble.

  • Not believable. Who would waste their time in Uruguay?

  • This is outstanding for what it cost this guy needs a break. Am working on several short CG on a shoe string budget I got my work on you tube and yeah I know the long hours of rendering frames hoping that it works out right, my works a different genera , but I say good luck to anyone that gets finance to make their dreams come true.

  • Damn Straight and good luck!!

  • @neocom1 Dude you do good work bro. I went and watched your videos man, they look as good as many top rated video games out right now.

Keep up the good work neo. I don't know what your plans are, but you have skill, so don't let people discourage you. Your long hours show in how well you put things together.

  • It's pretty good but does anyone REALLY believe it only cost $300?

If so then he must've persuaded many people to work for nothing and been able to borrow a lot of free equipment!

  • Everything looks great on a small screen, most of this would fall apart look-wise on a theater screen. Its a typical alien apocolypse tale. WHo ever picked./ scored the music is a genius. Editing is good too. Nothing mind blowing here fx wise .

I like the transfornation of the robots into buildings though.

  • i thought he sold it for 300,000 dollars

  • Pretty incredible for $300 though!!! I'm guessing Mr. Alvarez got some insanely talented people to work for free :)

  • Hollywood is dumb.

  • It doesn't matter what he spent -- he distilled every piece of crap "action" movie made over the last 10 years into 3 minutes. And he did it for 100's of millions less. Bravo. Maybe this'll shame those morons into churning out better crap.

  • i dont get whats so good about this. no story at all its. I don't know Congrats away, dude. u did it

  • I'm surprised this only cost $300!

  • I hoe they'll make a movie out of this :O

  • @PesiCool this is the movie. lol. its a short play production

  • And?

It is just anotherpointless special affects short. LOL.

The mechas look familiar? Oh, right "Mobile Suit Gundam." Except these are garbage.

Thank god hollyshit ruin that franchise.

  • fede made this short for 300 dollars!!!!!

  • Homage to Battleship Potemkin at 2:10

  • Brilliant. Bravo sir.

  • he got a 300,000 million contract good job dude dont mess it up and always make movies on youtube plzzzz

  • there is no such thing as 300,000 million ... derrrrr

    it was 30 mil

  • Meh.

    Sam Raimi has lost it.

  • u are going to Hollywood!

  • Impressive.

I see a bright future for Fede.

  • Yes, it's like the striders and also the huge walls that slowly walk in HL2.

Reminds me also of 28 Days Later

  • the music, "In the House - In a Heartbeat" is from 28 Days Later

  • I was completely more satisfied watching this short than watching 90 of the crap being churned out from Hollywood. This is better than the blasphemous Terminator Salvation which sadly spit in the face of the Terminator franchise. I'm pretty sure that Cyberdyne Pol Pot has taken control of Hollywood and brainwashed the masses into thinking that crappy movies are good. The resistance awaits your fine work, Senor Alvarez...

  • What software was used?

  • they used the soundtrack "in a heartbeat"

  • That's what makes it intriguing; you have to draw your own conclusions for a plot. Some complained about 'Coverfield'; where'd did it come from? when did it get here? They were disappointed that there was no backstory- make up your own, get the imagination going.

  • He spent US$500...if you don't count the pay for his own time and the time of all the volunteers that participated. Normally you'd pay for that.

However, it is nice. I would just like to know what the plot is. Robots attacking is nothing new.

  • This is soooo cool. Obviously didn't have a big budget so- all I can say is -how'd they do it?

  • he spend $500

  • This is how a guy get`s a life..;)

  • yah, and a job in hollywood.

  • Muy Bueno, yo soy de Uruguay y aprecio mucho lo que a haceho Federico Alvarez..
