shouldn't be called protestant reformation, should be called northern european revolution... it is us the northern european with our intelligence and instinct for nature and freedom which stopped the creeping evil of catholic christianity, which opressed science, philosophy and theism for centuries, not to mention the mass murder and genocide of countless european peoples-catholics can sod off-oh and how i mean that, i'm atheist, into paganism and while i abide protestants i cant abide catholicism
@rugbyboy198127 I can't abide your ignorance. I don't know which is more distrubing about your comment, it's stupidity or the implicit flavour nationalism. @s0cialc0nstruct are you joking mate? hitler was raised and continued to be a roman catholic, they try and pass him off as an athiest, but he was roman catholic and he bought the silence of the vatican for many years, this is well documented, infact they didn't even refute him or acknowledge the holocaust was happening until 1945, don't forget which side italy was on in the second world war even if the vatican claimed it stayed 'neutral' learn some history mate-not the propaganda you've learned!
@rugbyboy198127 I'm a specialist intellectual history. Hitler was not a Catholic. The technical and bureaucratic thinking behind the execution of the holocuast, not to mention the acompanying theories of eugenics, are well theorised development of a 'protestant' and 'enlightenment' strand in western thought. This is, however, getting away from the point. There are atrocities on all sides of human history and to align one groupin with 'evil' is not only perpetuate this weakness.
@s0cialc0nstruct if you're such a specialist then you'd know that those modern eugenics ideas actually originated in the united states at the end of a long line of bigotry beginning with the dehumanizing of africans and justification of slavery; which my friend began in europe under the catholic church and was endorsed by the catholic church, the catholic church has always been after jews, they destroyed all the marvels of the moors in islamic spain and had the dreadful inquisition, most evil!?!
Protestantism also gave birth to modern day Christian fundamentalism, the belief that every word of scripture was completely and literally true instead of having a deep metaphorical and spiritual meaning often times take literally how the english translation describes it to be despite the fact that english translations of the Bible are often inaccurate.
@LordMalice6d9 Christian fundamentalism doesnt necessarily assert that that everything is literal. Much of it (particularly the Book of Revelations) is symbolic. But the majority of Scripture can be taken quite literally.
As to "how much good have atheists pagans and Catholics done for the world." First off, The Enlightenment was a secular movement performed in predominantly "christian" Europe that resulted in liberal democracy, human rights, and the founding of America. It doesn't guarantee that the people in the movement were Christians anymore than living in Utah makes you a Mormon. Secondly, the majority of modern "christian" morality comes from pagan/atheistic ancient Greece.
Remember Christians, the will of God is no Catholic, Protestant,Orthodox, Penticostal, Adventist, JW, Etc. NO DIVISION, Only Christians, holy, helping and sharing instead of buying and selling.
"That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." (John 17:9-21)
you know Muslims came up with that MUCH EARLIER than Protestants, the whole script, no icons, no preists, etc., except for these are Strenghts more in Islam rather than Christianity, that is why protestants get their ass kicked in debates with Muslims.
1 Tim 4: 1-2: The Spirit has explicitly said that during the last times some will desert the faith and pay attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines that come from devils.
1 Tim 6: 3-4: Anyone who teaches anything different and does not keep to the sound teaching which is that of our Lord Jesus Christ, the doctrine which is in accordance with true religion, is proud and has no understanding.
Fairly straight forward, no? Return to Christ's church, the Catholic Church.
Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Einstein, Nietszche, Caesar, Ghandi, Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Lao-Tzu, Confucius, Marx, Lincoln, Voltaire, Hemingway, Darwin, Asimov, Rand,Franklin, Cady-Stanton, Russel, Huxley, Gallileo, Madison, Adams.... I could keep going, but won't bother, none of these are protestants, all have served humanity, protestantism itself is largely rooted in the work of Kant, who was also not a protestant.
Claiming their religion has helped science is a joke! All the xtians are the same, deny reality and they still do it today! Evolution is a fact weather xtians like it or not, the same for the earth nmot being 6000 years old or big boat rides for animals being real.
These days atheists far out weight religious people in science, thats because atheists have higher iqs and therefore better educated. Fundys are less so than xtians.
It's a theory. And your claim that atheists have higher IQs and better education is a joke. Or at least I hope it is. Just because someone doesn't beleive something doesn't mean they aren't educated about it.
Yeah, Marx has served "humanity" well... his ideology only killed 200 million people in the 20th century. Marx should have been assasinated when he was studying in Britain. In any case the pros and cons of scientific materialism, which due to liberal/Jewish naturalistic propaganda in the media is presumed to be "positive" is well open to debate. Scientific reductionism could end up destroying the earth, either from over exploitation of natural resources or nuclear warfare.
Stalinism isn't Marxism, but how many people have been killed by Biblical ideologies? Plenty. Doesn't mean Abraham or Jesus are to blame. I'm not a materialist.
How does this video address the argument put forth by Ken Miller? This video basically says the same thing religion always says. Believe what's in this book or you're going to burn in hell. Same old blind faith argument which makes people irrational and intolerant.

WOW what a WRONG claim, you must have got from a very stupid creationist website, as most dont even say such an absurd thing! Or did you just make it up?
"Tell me, from what evolutionary necessity came-- a "sense of humor?" "
WOW you lack of understanding of human mind and science is amazing, where did you get this from?
Polygamy4Five, I appreciate your support up for science but, if you're not going to give proof as to why they are incorrect, you're no better then those you criticize. Just a thought. Keep fighting the good fight, though. :)
Being dismissive never got anyone anywhere. Maybe this person was failed by the school systems, or maybe they've been taught (falsely) that scientists are the bad guys, and in either circumstance, I don't see how being argumentative without facts to support that helps matters. If anything, it probably reinforces their beliefs.
Again, please don't think of me as being hostile or discouraging. I really do appreciate what you're standing for. :) Hope to hear from you again.
I'd have to firmly disagree with that last claim of yours. Sure, some will ignorantly refuse it, but some may not have been given proper facts yet. If we are to be this absolutely dismissive, why not shut down all science classes in school, and hope for the best? Saying that because of a religion, they do not deserve scientific evidence is as tumultuous and offensive as the ideology behind the Nazi-book burnings (even to me.) No one is below being given the truth, even if they deny it.
If an argument is brought up, no matter how stupid or simple you deem it to be, it is essential that you must attest the truth with hard evidence.
This doesn't mean that I find myself debating which fruits are which, it simply means that if I'm holding an apple, and someone comes up and tells me its an orange, I simply won't dismiss their argument, saying they're not worth my time, I will explain that it is an apple, and this is why.
Science is about facts, about truth, not going around and point out how stupid and wrong people are for thinking or believing something else. Religion is a blight on humanity, and I understand that, but the way you're combating it is wrong in many many ways.
We have to be reputable, understanding, and willing to gives facts when necessary. There is no place in science for suppression, and arguments without facts, no matter how vehemently you argue with me.
I tell them they are wrong, they know thye are wrong, they do not wnat to leanr anything, therwe is no point trying to explain to them whay they are wrong!
I find your continuation in this argument with such infantile behavior to be appalling. You mock the very scientific method you seem to fight for.
Science is not just another religion you can blindly take sides with. You bear the burden of truth. If you make a claim, it must be rigorously proven. If you don't like this, then I suggest you conform to religion. The arguments for it are similar to your current methodology: childish debates, and claims without understanding.
He doesn't have to prove anything, "apple" isn't a scientific label, just a handy one, regardless of what you call it, if you want to find out if THIS is the fruit you want, bite it, then call it what you will.
"if you want to find out if THIS is the fruit you want, bite it, then call it what you will. "
You missed the rest of the conversation, and the stupuid commenst about him requiring proof of everything stupid things such as thers light during the day, so same goes for apalle being an apple. You missed the converstaion, but he was just being stupid!
I've read it now, and I see where you're coming from, the only thing I'd say you should think about is that although you're probably right about any particular creationist, there's more people reading than commenting, and they're probably more willing to listen, so it's good to give a proper explanation. You're right though, I should've read the whole thing, and I may not have commented.
Well, on principle, I guess it's better to try to provide evidence, but I've lost the rag before too. As far as I'm concerned God as anything other than a metaphor was disproved by Kant 300 years ago, after three hundred years I think you're entitled to get a bit stroppy.XD
(and tbf, my namesake was famous for calling Christians liars and idiots, so I can't really object lol)
SusieArviso: This is a common misinterpretation of the basics of human evolution. We share a common ancestry with apes; we did not evolve from the ones that are around today. We do not consciously choose how or in which way we evolve, nature does, otherwise, every species on the planet would be as smart, if not smarter, then us. Also, we developed a sense of humor as an addition to our developing brain. It wasn't necessary, it just happened.
Granted, some can be just as dismissive and pointlessly ignorant but, is it really necessary to sink to that level? What do you think that says for the scientific community? It gives the impression that we're religious fanatics too.
Your arbitrary judgment and your absolutism are unjust.
"dismissive and pointlessly ignorant but, is it really necessary to sink to that level?"
Ah im not ignorant, im dismissive of crap, when people tell me stupidf thins are true. I point out they are wrong. I will not waste time arguing with a liar trying to get them to accept a picture of an apple is an apple and not an orange as they claim.
"Your arbitrary judgment and your absolutism are unjust. "
Im sure thats how would treat and idiot who keeps insiting an apple is an orange?
How do you contest that an apple is not an orange without support for your claims? Facts and support are essential, no matter how obvious they may be.
Why would you not provide evidence to your claims when we require /them/ to? We have all the facts in the world, and you're reason to omit them eludes me. Is it because you figure you're too good to? Too lazy?
Claims require evidence, no question. For them and for us. Whether or not they accept it. It's called credibility. Don't be a hypocrite.
The point you are trying to make here is that protestants (i.e. creationists) have done more good than atheists?
I have two problems with that. I'm not going into whether or not it is true, but firstly, evolution does not go against God. Evolution only explains how life diversified, not where it came from and definitely not why. Secondly, the amount of 'good' you've done for the world says absolutely nothing about how right you are in a discussion about the history of life on earth.
My suggestion is that let RELIGIONS BE REFORMED TO ADDRESS HUMAN FEELINGS, FAITH, HOPE ONLY NOT SCIENCE. Let science take care of itself and let religion do not involve in it.
Remove the creations from the religious books and keep only the feelings, faith, hope parts in religion.
"The protestant reformation may have planted the seeds of atheism that would later bear fruit". -Alister McGrath / The Twilight of Atheism

you'know sumthing funny about hell,
fire and brimstone
brimstone, is sulfer sulfer is EXPLOSIVE when exposed to oxygen and heat
so.. theres no oxygen in hell
well no that won't work fire is fuel, and oxgen merging under heat, creating more heat
fire=oxygen
fire+oxygen+brimestone(AKA sulfer)=BOOOM
hell would not be a fiery pit, but a smoking creater

@beingther ahh interesting question, my first thought would be its nuclear fusion core but to my suprise its actually a fusion of
hydrogen and helium technically speaking its not "fire" but rather combustion
, its only viable in stars as it requires temperatures of exteme levels
and if that was hell,
1 the devil would talk like a teletubby
2 just like the sulfer scenario you'd last about 0.0067th of a second human skin melts at 500degrees its 1 000 000 your very bones would melt

"SusieArviso: This is a common misinterpretation of the basics of human evolution"
She still says evolution is a Lie of Satan to take people away from god!
So what now?

Sure, she's... a bit deluded, but derision without facts is kinda pointless, don't you agree?
We should be the better people, now matter how vehemently they attest to their ignorance, know what I mean? :)
I meant no trespass to you, by the way, just saying what I thought.

"Sure, she's... a bit deluded, but derision without facts is kinda pointless, don't you agree?"
No she is never going to change her mind because fowhat I or anyone else says. Do you think she will?
"We should be the better people"
Better in what way, If somone is willing ignorant to keep inline with their 3500 year old story book, they do not deserve any respect.

Polygamy4Five 3 years ago

It was interesting but had nothing to do with genome evidence.
