Norma was 31 at the time of filming and it was her first film back at MGM after a long European sabbatical with Irving. It's also her precious last pre-Code, and invaluable for that reason alone. It made a profit, if not spectacularly so, insiders expecting something more epic from Thalberg after his return. They weren't disappointed for long: The Merry Widow, China Seas, and Mutiny On The Bounty were all in the pipeline.
