    The McKenzie approach to treating back pain advocates such exercises. The approach has been taught for 30 years in over 34 countries.

  • Extension exercises like this work the thoracic paraspinals, not the low back. Any doctor who is familiar with functional rehab and spinal biomechanics will tell you to stay away from this type of exercise. Try and learn a little bit about the topics you're giving advice on.

  • The bad part.....her explanation is horrendous! Amongst many quotes.... "you forget about these muscles back here which strengthen your ab muscles". That is like stating working out the Bicep muscles strengthen the Triceps. They work OPPOSITE of eachother.

    This exercise "strengthens" the Erector Spinea Muscles. There are 3 of them.

    Her glutes and hamstrings are not "flexed". They are contracted. Flexing is a description of the motion of the main joint. Main joint being her hip joint.

    Not neccessarily the same. When you squat your lower back and abs definetly come into play, I believe she was trying to say strengthening the lower back strengthens the entire core. You can work Biceps ALL day every day and probably not increase your bench much at all, becuase yes the biceps and triceps don't act together. However there are many moves in which the lower back or erector spinae + the rectus abdominus and tranverse abdominus are utilized together.

  • DO NOT DO THIS EXERCISE IF YOU HAVE A HISTORY OF LOW BACK PAIN. Instead look for videos that focus on "Core Stability". Once your core is stable, then you can progress to exercises that require alot of spinal movement.

  • I agree with JoshSonsiadekDC. I've been watching her videos. She does a great job of explaining this. I'm about to buy one of those balls, primarily as a safer way of doing some of the back and ab exercises.
