that maybe so. But driving to me is not something i just do to get me from A to B quick. I enjoy driving and i love to feel as though im in full control of the vehicle and that "I" am driving the car, not the other way around. This can only be achieved using a manual transmission. I would rather have pleasure and fun driving than save 1 or 2 £'s and find driving a chore. I cant see how anyone that loves to drive would use a DSG, Automatic or flappy paddle transmission.

This car is just so practical. Great engine, true german engineering, all the features you could want or need, 4 doors to haul ppl, and hatchback for carrying a bunch of stuff, all for under $30k.

why do you need a shifter in the centre console when you have paddles for gear shifts on the steering wheel? just no need for it have a button for reverse and one for park - like the lambos

u can by the waranty for 5 years on rims and tires for 300 hundre bucks it's worth it trust me.i just got mine with that waranty and i am happy for that bc i was scared to get it with 18 inch

Here's a lesson I've learned from test driving and buying cars. DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING THE DEALER SAYS. There's a few exceptions, like I personally know a salesman at North Scottsdale Audi named Brian who is on the Vortex and he knows his shit. But for the most part salepeople are not car guys, they make shit up, exaggerate, and just lie too. They're paid to act like they know what they're talking about.

Well that's the first I've heard of it. The first two iterations of the R model didn't change names from Europe to N America so why should this one? The GTI stands alone for a reason. That's why they called it the Golf R32 and now the Golf R everywhere else. Everything I've read and all the videos I've seen have been from the UK and Europe where it's not a GTI-R. I am tired of VW changing everything for Americans.

Ehhhhhhh (buzzer) wrong-o buddy. The "R-20" name was pre-production. It is simply the Golf R and not the GTI-R or the Golf R-20 or the GTI R-20. The Golf R-line is the one you're thinking of. Like an Audi A4 S-line is not an Audi S4.

Hey look another person who acts like they know what they're talking about before checking facts. Currently, there is no S-line package available in the US, but look at the UK Audi site and you'll see S-line trim levels for the A4. There was an S-line package here for the previous generation A4. THE S4 IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT CAR. Always has been. The old one had a V8, there was no V8 A4. The new one is a supercharged V6, there is no supercharged V6 for the A4.

When it comes to getting the most out of your car, first tighten the nut behind the wheel, you. Do some autocross sessions with the car stock and after that assess where you want improvements on the car. Tires and suspension will make you faster, not more power. That car already has enough power. VW underrates it's engines. It's likely making close to 220hp at the crank.

R20 will not be coming to N America for now...maybe in a few years if the economy gets better. VW did not anticipate many sales for the R20 in the states.

i bought a 2009 gti 3 months ago it is amazing. you really have to drive it in order to appreciate it. you're right about the R32 its practically the same performance as the gti. R32 has awd but is much more expensive and has worse fuel economy.
