I don't understand why you're attempting to disassociate the word muslim with Islam. The basic translation of Islam is, to surrender to god (Allah) and the word muslim means, those who have surrendered to god. Now if there is a difference between having been surrendered and to surrender in the current tense, please let me know, however from my perspective all it is, is a matter of tense. It seems to be that you have a problem with islam. If so, why do you not have a problem with muslims?

They'll shrug their shoulders and say as long as they are not terrorists. We have higher standards, fair and equal for all persons.
@whistlingdust I'm glad you now recognize how much of a moron you were but it's not too late to change. Seriously, I always thought you were a joke. I went back and watched TF video for myself and I'm not a subscriber of his he's great and you are idiot for what you said. You can't bully me.

@Wrath0fKhan I unsubbed from him a long time ago and don't keep up with his videos. His most recent video, "Your mother's a whore", contains the usual mix of logical fallacies, generalizations, and oversimplifications with which he is wont to paint both Islam and his critics. His claim that most of his atheist critics actually defend Islam is a bold faced lie.
Yip... Thats what Im interested in. What are those.
"generalizations"
For example? Besides, some generalizations are "necessary". Example; by filling out a (hypothetical) census questionnaire you will (eventually) provide information that you own a color TV set, yet you wont provide information what specific brand it is.
@Wrath0fKhan I gave you an example. His claim that most of his atheist critics actually defend Islam is a bold faced lie.
In general, he tends to commit the logical fallacy of guilt by association when he lumps all Muslims into his simplistic and deterministic categories. He always throws in a token disclaimer, saying he knows there are differences in the Muslim world, but then goes on to continually refer to the whole group as "the Muslims" when referring to extremists behaviour.
@pirbird14 "I gave you an example" Definitely not a good one. "most of his atheist ... bold face lie" Ive already responded to that one. "In general .. deterministic categories" So does Britannica, so does the CIA Fact Book, so does traditional Muhammadan Islam (e.g. fiqh), etc. "extremists behaviour" Islam sharia and opinion polls: WPO: [bit(.)ly/iQt4QJ+] [bit(.)ly/1DIwGp+] ICM: [bit(.)ly/jcj4qJ+] Im sorry but your argument doesnt hold.
@Wrath0fKhan Britannica, the CIA, etc. do the exact opposite of what T;Foot does. He lumps all Muslims into the same overgeneralized categories. The CIA and Britannica delineate logical categories within that larger group.
So if (hypothetically speaking) 90% of some M are radical nutjobs, in your view its not well grounded to categorize the group of M as a group full of nutjobs.
@Wrath0fKhan "So if (hypothetically speaking) 90% of some M are radical nutjobs, in your view its not well grounded to categorize the group of M as a group full of nutjobs."
Actually, the exact opposite conclusion would be drawn from my actual comments in this exchange. That is to say, if valid evidence showed that 90% of a particular group of Muslims were "nutjobs", then it would be entirely proper to charaterize them as "nutjobs". T'Foot fails to provide the evidence.
It actually is your business. It is the reason I don't have a list of T'foot's logical fallacies, lies, and over generalizations memorized. I actually don't remember most of it.If you wish to have a detailed discussion of with a critic of T'Foot, find someone who atucally keeps current with his vids. I don't
"never claimed that generalizations are bad, they are, however, a logical fallacy"
Another joke? I hope not. Generalizations are not a logical fallacy as became evident in my previous example. Generalizations are a fallacy if they are derived improperly/unsatisfactorily or plainly invalidly.
Well, since you're obviously a troll, I guess it is a big joke to you.
"Generalizations are a fallacy if they are derived improperly/unsatisfactorily or plainly invalidly." Which is a concept you don't understand. The examples you gave from Britannica, etc. were properly derived. The generalizations made by T'Foot are not.
Some seem to be inevitable. Example; Encyclopedia Britannica provides information about sectarian divisions within Islam connected to some basic population statistics. That is, up to 90% of all Muslims are categorized as Sunnis, adhering to the 4 living (yet traditional) madhabib. Sure, they can be moderates, they can be radicals, and everything in between, yet if they take their religion and traditions seriously they will be more on the conservative side.
"his claim that most of his atheists critics actually defend Islam is a bold faced lie"
Well... Those Ive seen in some of those short clips and those Ive talked to actually do defend Islam. Their defense usually is very similar and is based on the argument of "diversity within Islam". Its tempting to say that exactly "that one" is the bold faced lie. I will put it more carefully and will rather appeal to (their evident) ignorance.
I actualy watched (and listened) to Thunderf00ts video, and I believe his "parasite" comment was aimed at the responses which have f*ck all to do with the video he had uploaded.
He did explain that, but like TF himself, you only hear what you want to hear. :(
@franky225 What he suggested in his video was people responding to him on this subject are looking for attention for themselves using his name to achieve said attention. It's a crappy way of lumping everyone who disagrees with him into the same mold. It's the same linear way he approaches Muslims. This is a theme with him going back at least a year and requires more attention than any sane human should have to give it to parse, so I don't fault you for not reading between the lines.
@whistlingdust Your characterization of what TF said was so far off, I pretty have not choice but to call you a fucking liar. The mosque in Tennessee? That's completely out of left field, TF makes no mention it. Strawman much? Why do YOU confuse Muslims for Koranic principles for Islam in practice. These not the same things, duh! He's against Koranic principles and Islam in common practice, not Muslims as people. Quit trying to read between the lines and stick to the print.
@whistlingdust I think this line can be traced to the time he traveled and met Queen Laura of Atheism, right after tht he made his first FAIL bible video...
and from then on... it has been going down and down
Yup Thunderfoot is in a bubble. The IQ squared debate "Islam is a religion of peace", the movie, "Islam: What the west needs to know", reading the Quran, and the fact that if we remove Islam from calculations of world terror, world terror becomes almost non-existent should not be the only considerations. We should also look for what enables these horrible views to surface, and inspires these horrible people to action. Concentrated peer groups of Muslims almost always produce violent radicalism.
"Domestic violence rings alarm bells in Turkey" (Hurriyet)
"Silence on spousal sexual assault jarring: Doctors" (The Express Tribune)
"Muslim Council: women cannot debate wearing veil" (The Telegraph)
"'Wear a headscarf or we will kill you': How the 'London Taliban' is threatening women and trying to ban gays in bid to impose sharia law" (Mail Online)
"Egypt women protesters forced to take 'virginity tests'" (BBC News)
The very fact that he can't even recognise the defense coming from the atheist community as being in favour of Muslims just shows he conflates the people with the dogma. He actually can't tell the difference.
I made 'your mum's a whore' remarks as an immediate reation to Burning 40,000 Korans (and he should know what to expect), and the video was removed by YouTube. I made a subsequent video in which I admitted the response was 'not a meassured one' and he conveniently ignored it.
And yeah, people are PAYING him to make science videos and really funding hate speech. He should understand why people get angry. Good video :)
if you think islam and muslims are ALL nice even the radical ones in the islamic countries that would commit murder in defense of a book that prohibits any freedom is worthy to be not attacked then so be it, i even attack school rules and regulations in the name of freedom, the basis of the first world is freedom and democracy if islam and muslims take the quran seriously i see it as a vice to society, so are non constitutional public regulations, worth isnt in quantity it is in quality.
I think the premise of this entire video is invalid. Im no Thunderfoot expert, but I think it is rediculous that people think he is against "muslims," it is clearly the dogma and ideology he is against, not the people.
Being against islam is NOT racism, despite the many muslims who say it is.
@Happilyperfect When you claim that 1.5 billion people all share the same "dogma" you are not giving them a fair hearing. There are many people around the globe that call themselves Muslims, that shouldn't all be compared to the most violent adherents of their respective faith. Especially when they are in a country like the US were they are in the minority. It's not fair to tag them with beliefs they don't ascribe to . These folks have kids and they have the right to live with out fear, like us
@whistlingdust Even assuming that he is entirely misrepresenting the Islamic faith and what individual muslims believe, he is still not being hateful towards muslims and he is not being racist. Also, I believe that merely since religions tend to diversify in belief rather than uniting it is not the job of someone who criticizes the dogma to understand the myriad perspectives of each individual follower.
why don't the peace loving, "moderate" muslims stand up and denounce terrorism and the "most violent adherents of their respective faith" en masse, publicly? I only see muslims going insane over cartoons and korans being burned.
It's a fact that an alarming number of so-called moderates in the UK support the death penalty for apostasy and suicide bombing, amongst other things. See the Pew poll for evidence.
@boskinator Muslims are on the march all over the world right now demanding secular democracy. In the Iran rebellion of 2009, crowds were chanting 'Death to Al Qaeda'. It also mustn't be forgotten that the muslim soldiers of the Afghan, Iraqi & many other security services have made immense sacrifices in the the fight against terrorism over the last 10 years.
Why don't you stand up and denounce the actions of non-Muslim governments against Muslims? Should I, based on ignorance, then condemn you for not seeing you do that?
And there are two views on suicide bombing. Some say it's okay for the people in Palestine because all they have are ROCKS against an ADVANCED ARMY, but they NEVER say its okay to klll civilians. Other say its okay against civilians. So what was that "Pew Poll Evidence" about?
10000 rockets and mortars since 2005, suicide bombings galore are not ROCKS. If the IDF wanted to, they could make Gaza into a parking lot. But they haven't. They give food, water, oil, medical supplies and care to a population that openly wants them DEAD (SEE HAMAS CHARTER). They drop leaflets before military incursions. They allow the tens of thousands of tonnes of aid to reach gaza (see video Fat Gaza).
"10000 rockets and mortars since 2005, suicide bombings galore are not ROCKS."
Where does the Israeli occupation fits into this equation? Do you expect the Palestinians to sit there and die?
"If the IDF wanted to, they could make Gaza into a parking lot."
They wouldn't do it, because Israel *knows*, Not even United States will not support it. The Israeli trick is to make Palestinians living condition as horrible as possible.
You're right. The video cannot be used as the source.
However the source of Fat Gaza's assertations come from studies on worldwide obesity: The Economist, Berzeit Univerity and UNRWA.
I had trouble finding exact numbers as to how much aid Gaza receives. To start, look up "Israel Steadily Increasing Number of Aid Trucks Into Gaza", Ha'Aretz (left wing, liberal, pro-pal newspaper), 30/06/2010. At that time they increased the number of TRUCKS to 150 PER DAY. PER DAY.
" At that time they increased the number of TRUCKS to 150 PER DAY. PER DAY."
And, btw, your article states that, Israel *will* let in 150 trucks per day. Read it carefully. Not sure whether it followed through. And it's irrelevant what Israel says because that's a claim based on interest. Of ofcourse Israel will say that. Human rights report showed the humanitarian disasters in Gaza. Only FOOL will believe that there are no humanitarian disaster in Gaza or willfully ignorant
You're the one not making sense now. Which human rights report? Which organization? You ask for sources, yet you provide none. You are a hypocrite, and have no leg to stand on in this debate. Sorry.
"You're the one not making sense now. Which human rights report? Which organization"
See Amnesty International, Israeli human right organization, Human rights Watch report on Gaza.
"You are a hypocrite, and have no leg to stand on in this debate. Sorry."
You are not going to debate me because you *CANT*. You are too chicken to defend your pathetic position on Israel. And calling me names will not win your case.
When I said "try me", I meant, ask me anything about the Israel/pal conflict.
It's obvious you're a troll, and you have no coherent arguments.
Oh, and I like the fact that you don't allow comments on your channel page, and you have "friend-lock" enabled for personal messaging...how big-brother of you. Coward.
Let me be clear, you didn't PROVIDE a SINGLE Credible source for your claim. You source CLEARLY contradicts what human rights reports says about Gaza, which I ALREADY provided and which you are ignoring.
"When I said "try me", I meant, ask me anything about the Israel/pal conflict.
oh, and btw...sorry your "useful idiot" Vittorio Arrigoni got kidnapped and MURDERED by militant islamists in Gaza. No worry, he has Rachel Corrie to keep him company, wherever he is now...
Pity that he was killed by islamists, otherwise Hamas would have another white, western corpse to showcase to the world media. Oh well, next time.
My post makes perfect sense. I'm openly applauding the death of an idiotic communist, anti-semite, "useful idiot".
Palestinians need all the trumped up pity they can get, because FACTS completely delegitemize their so-called "plight".
See how the revolutions in Egypt, libya, Syria, Yemen, Iran, etc. are making people realize the real source of unrest in the Middle East: despotic Muslim/Arab theocracies and dictatorships oppressing THEIR OWN people. No more Pals to deflect attention.
"I'm openly applauding the death of an idiotic communist, anti-semite, "useful idiot"."
me too. :-)
"Palestinians need all the trumped up pity they can get, because FACTS completely delegitemize their so-called "plight"."
Strange, which you facts are you talking about? point to it.
I also noted that your last point is ridiculous to say the lest but Your last point was to simply divert attention to discuss Israel. Nice try. I am not falling for it. :-)
"See how the revolutions in Egypt, libya, Syria, Yemen, Iran, etc. are making people realize the real source of unrest in the Middle East: despotic Muslim/Arab "
Are you suggesting that the reason for violence in Middle is caused because people identify themselves as Muslim or Arabs? I suppose occupation of Israel and US has nothing to do with it and their support of dictators like Mubarak.
You brought up the Gaza issue and you are the one who is saying "no more Pal deflection"?
No, what I am saying that the real reason for instability in the ME is the oppressive regimes of said countries. What occupation of Israel and US? Mubarak is gone, watch the Muslim Brotherhood take over.
What I am saying is that these despotic countries can no longer use their palestinian pawns to deflect attention from their own repressive regimes.
A thought: have u noticed that u have been reacting and quoting my posts in EVERY one of your comments?Do u have any original thoughts?
@whistlingdust He actually says that a great number of muslims don't even care if Muhammed is being drawn and Q'rans are being burned. He is just defending free speech, fo it is being attacked by some muslims. What you are saying is basically that since they're a minority we shouldn't point out the violent muslims. It is the same as saying that not allowing creationism to be taught would be persecution if the christians were a minority.
@whistlingdust So what is the problem of "touching the wound"?
Radicals say "everyone must abide by our laws" and kill 20 people, and then someone says that we don't have to, that Q'ran is just a book and if someone wants to burn it he is free to do so, because he is not forced to abide to their laws. Then people come up and say "people understand that muslim are a tiny minority".
There is another tiny minority I like to call "murders". Should we lock them up? they are a MINORITY, persecution?
ok really if the resonable Muslims are as reasonable as you say they are, then they shouldn't be bothered by thunderfoots little stunt. He isn't picking on them, he's makeing a point of how stupid it is to have riots over the burning of a book or some cartooons.

@boskinator
DawahFilms 9 months ago
@DawahFilms
Which actions do you speak of? Give examples.
Do your own Pew Poll research.

@boskinator
You are spouting Israeli propaganda.

"They give food, water, oil, medical supplies and care to a population that openly wants "
Why does the Human rights reports *contradicts* your and Israeli claims?
"openly wants them DEAD (SEE HAMAS CHARTER)."
Source?
"They drop leaflets before military incursions. They allow the tens of thousands of tonnes of aid to reach gaza"
The purpose of the leftlets was to make panick attacks in hearts of mind of Palestinians, since there were no exit.

Fat Gaza is NOT a source. Provide *Credible* source for your claim!

PER DAY.

@boskinator
"You're right. The video cannot be used as the source"
Your "source" cannot be taken seriously, because human rights report *would* contradict your claims.
" To start, look up "Israel Steadily Increasing Number of Aid Trucks Into Gaza",
Again, Impossible, Human rights Organization reports *contradicts* your claim.
italia981 9 months ago
@italia981

Please don't use left-wing as an argument. It's a tactic used by people, who has no argument. At the end of the day, it's an ISRAELI newspaper.
You are really a funny guy! :-) You don't know anything about Israel/Palestine conflict, now do you? :-)

I know a hell of a lot more about the issue than you do. Try me.

it's YOU who made the outrageous claim, it's YOUR burden to show that your claim is true.

I am trying you. :-) So far, ZERO luck! :-) I see no challenge.

Coward.

oh, and btw...sorry your "useful idiot" Vittorio Arrigoni got kidnapped and MURDERED by militant islamists in Gaza. No worry, he has Rachel Corrie to keep him company, wherever he is now...
Pity that he was killed by islamists, otherwise Hamas would have another white, western corpse to showcase to the world media. Oh well, next time.

Your post is laughable. You make no sense. What does this has to do with Palestinians and their views on Vittorio?
"Pity that he was killed by islamists, otherwise Hamas would have another white, western corpse to showcase to the world media."
Palestinian don't need this story to show the injustice that was done to them from PAST 60 years!

Are you suggesting that the reason for violence in Middle is caused because people identify themselves as Muslim or Arabs? I suppose occupation of Israel and US has nothing to do with it and their support of dictators like Mubarak.
You brought up the Gaza issue and you are the one who is saying "no more Pal deflection"?
italia981 9 months ago
@italia981

"No, what I am saying that the real reason for instability in the ME is the oppressive regimes of said countries"
You mean like Egypt, which was supported by US?
"What occupation of Israel and US? "
You don't know about occupation of Israel and US in the Middle East?
"What I am saying is that these despotic countries can no longer use their palestinian pawns to deflect attention from their own repressive regimes."
How did you know people there support repressive regime?
italia981 9 months ago
@italia981
"their palestinian pawns to deflect attention from their own repressive regimes"
In addition to my earlier question, How did you know people there support repressive regime?
if you don't want them to use Palestinians as a pawn, then there is a simple answer to it, that is, tell Israel to end the occupation.
Second, you can't complain about repressive regime, while supporting Israel.

Absortus 9 months ago
@Absortus No, not what I'm saying. Not even close.
whistlingdust 9 months ago
@whistlingdust So what is the problem of "touching the wound"?
Radicals say "everyone must abide by our laws" and kill 20 people, and then someone says that we don't have to, that Q'ran is just a book and if someone wants to burn it he is free to do so, because he is not forced to abide to their laws. Then people come up and say "people understand that muslim are a tiny minority".
There is another tiny minority I like to call "murders". Should we lock them up? they are a MINORITY, persecution?
