In reality the character Chigurh was so unreal. An intelligent assasin would not attract unnecessary attention to himself by killing almost evryone who crosses his path. The movie lost some realism on that account.
That would be accurate if Anton Chigurh was an "intelligent assassin" but as Woody Harrelson puts it he is no more and no less than a psychopath on the loose.
He's not a normal "hitman" though. If anything he likes killing people, and getting paid for certain hits is just a bonus. Like at the start when he gets arrested. He did that on purpose just to see if he could escape, no other reason.
@mercmarc I think you would be missing the point though.
You heard what Javier said. Which, by the way , was the best analysis of the character I have heard so far.
Anton is a symbol. The book is about how he and the other two characters cross paths but never really meet.
In a movie or a book, things are supposed to be real until you create a theme, then you start bending reality to fit the message you are trying to portray.
@UncomfortableSilence Of course, that would depend on what genre you're writing in. But, yes, in this case I don't think either Cormac McCarthy or The Coen Brothers were attempting to portray Chigurh as an especially 'real' character; he's much more a force of nature. I think it was perfectly gauged, if he was any more or less 'real' then it would've compromised how engaging and utterly terrifying the character was.
The coin toss scene is definitely a memorable moment. After reading the book by Cormac Mccarthy I can't think of a better actor to portray the character of Chigurh. He embodied the character perfectly.
I own this movie and have watched the coin toss scene maybe a hundred times. It gets me everytime. This is a historical performance. I can't imagine it being better. His performance is so real!! This is why it is so scary. This whole movie is real. Of all the movies the brothers have done none of them are this real. Javier, your performance is one for the ages.
manny the movie guy- your laugh is scaary. even though i kind of like it cause it's funny, it's creeping me out more than making laugh. no offense. but the way javier looks in this hairstyle scares me a lot more than the laugh
Manny...is...gay? AAahhhaaAAAhahhhAAAAahhhhhhhh! my head just exploded.
Not a bad interview mate. You did good for a short amount of time, asked some meaningful and some fun questions, and got a good reaction. Keep that up.

holy crap you did such a good job. id be freaking out and stuttering if i was interviewing him. and i loved the comment he made about his hair =D thanks for this
Most of those interviewing Javier are simply idiots...hair in itself has absolutely no relevance for the great performance of this extraordinary Spanish actor!
Correct mariancom, but hair, like costume, is a necessary tool for an actor to flesh out his or her character! Study all the Coen Brothers films, and you'll notice, hair does play an important role...thx for watching! Manny
To me, the coin toss scene is one of the best illustrations of Aton's way of thinking (That's why I sent you my video as a comment). Your interview just brings us so perfect a clarification of the very meaning of this scene (and a huge part of the movie), regarded as an Allegory of life and death, and considering Anton as a "reminder" of those "principles".

I'm glad when someone actually takes time to think of the implications of the film...as I was watching your vid, I just realize that No Country for Old Men is one of those films that will never, ever age...it's cliche, but the film is an instant classic!
I share Javier Bardem's interpretation of Anton's character & totally agree with what he says about the latter's "fate" in those "principles directly related to life itself (& its opposite)", the fatality of human destiny & the fact that death (life's interruption) is totally random: It's just the result of several acts & events put together by hazard. It doesn't need a good (ethical or logical) reason to happen, & when it happens, it cannot be stopped.

the haircut was kind of like the two boys at end. One wearing a shirt, and the other bare chested. It was a regional thing and seasonal thing. Fads and fashion go that quick!
Still, Javiar's haircut added to his sinister character
I agree Manny, he is a very memorable villain. Great haircut, and intresting altogether, very evil also. He doesn't look like a killer. When I saw him in the trailer, I was like this is a joke how can he be villain. I told my dad he's just gonna waste money seeing this. But, that first murderous introduction I was like this is a villain. Don't you think?

I know, I remember those problems when I was living in the Philippines...we only get the big blockbuster films...but it's now available on DVD...thx for watching! Manny
Just a great interview Manny--wow now I have to check your other clips--I've been a fan of Javier's work since the early 90's and it's so nice to see him get all this attention lately.
Thx! I've been a fan of Javier since Jamon, Jamon as well, and it was a pleasure to finally interview him, for a film that made him win the Oscar :) Manny
Manny, your interview is great. I've replayed it numerous times. Love the voices. I noticed you didn't appear to enjoy Lee-Jones as much. Can you tell us more. Do you suspect he is a tad phobic? He seemed a bit intimidating, perplexed, suspicious. What was going on?
No, Tommy Lee Jones has a very good heart, but he's been voted the worst interviewee from the journalist circuit. I had a great time with him, but I was nervous as heck because of his reputation. Although he gave me a few nuggets that I was able to use for my review :) Thx for watching! Manny
manong, how did you land a job as a movie critic in america? :) PArang yun sexy na news caster dati sa GMA tapos naka pasok sa news casting somewhere in LA area. I forgot her name. But anyway, keep up the good work, kahit medyo halong landi ang interview hehehe
The inteview is great. The comments quite annoying. There may not be a large audience for a movie as good as this one. I don't care. I enjoy my movie experiences in an empty theatre without the accompaniment of pop corn, rustling paper & ice cream licking, friendos'.
Thanks for watching! You know, there are films when I want the "empty theater" experience so I can concentrate on the flick, and there are some movies where I want to see audience reactions... Manny
A faglord? Does that mean he has lordship over many homosexual men? Does he have a big mansion that he rents out to them? Or is he the owner of an Apt. complex? Can I stay with him?
lol you're the most unassuming guy ever and it seems like your interviews go in a silly direction and then you always get them to say the most epic things and the interviews are great. great interviews, thanks!
I know right? We talked about his character, his hair, his motivation, and the film! Nothing relevant about the movie at all lol :) But...as always, thanks for watching! Manny
Chigurh, shoot the faggot in the forehead. wait, do the coin toss, and have him call sides, then shoot him, that would be fair. He's gayer than peter pan
yup yup a cowboy comes across a bag full of money from a drug deal gone wrong and people are after him Mexican gangs, and a crazy psyco killer.
its a really good movie even though people bitch bout the ending cause they want something that would be obvious instead of unexpecting but just get the movie its really good
I hate how entertainers get the easy life....I'm a hater. And teachers and farmers, the real heroes of society, get the shaft...but you love it. IT'S WRONG.
You are a hater indeed! I'm for teachers and farmers as well, but I don't have to hate! I help instead...priorities urgeone :) Thx for watching! Manny
oh..thats you. my hair is almost like that freaks hair. and i am not crazy. but my old psychiatrist thinks that i am. swiss cheese you lol...do you know what that means manny? we'll find you. all glorifying this piece of crap character...funny how you appraise this guy, but when it really happens you duck.
What would you do, if somebody comes to you and says: "Hey, you just got the same hairstyle as Anton Chigurh, the psychopathic assasin in NCFOM."
Telling him that you are actually the trend setter, not Anton, or maybe saying: "What buisness is it of yours, what my hair look like?" before you expressing your craziness in a weird ritual and than kick his ass extraordinary.
What's the gay interviewer's perspective on this actor's hair? My hair is like the assasin's hair...so is javier saying that something is wrong with my mind??? faggott ass flip interviewer..now i'm gonna go to the international house of lumpia and shootemup.

What was going on?
lamberton5578 3 years ago
No, Tommy Lee Jones has a very good heart, but he's been voted the worst interviewee from the journalist circuit. I had a great time with him, but I was nervous as heck because of his reputation. Although he gave me a few nuggets that I was able to use for my review :) Thx for watching! Manny

Finally saw it yesterday. Great movie. Javier really made the movie.
I also want to say how much I love the ignorance of these people who care more to comment about the interviewer than the movie.
iamkeekoo 3 years ago
Isn't that something? Guess they're all jealous I got to touch Javier's hands lol...it takes one to know one you know? :) Manny

manong, how did you land a job as a movie critic in america? :) PArang yun sexy na news caster dati sa GMA tapos naka pasok sa news casting somewhere in LA area. I forgot her name. But anyway, keep up the good work, kahit medyo halong landi ang interview hehehe
dinuzuya 3 years ago
the landi is part of the drama :) hey, punta ka naman sa website ko't tulungan mo ako :) Manny
mdelar 3 years ago
The inteview is great. The comments quite annoying. There may not be a large audience for a movie as good as this one. I don't care. I enjoy my movie experiences in an empty theatre without the accompaniment of pop corn, rustling paper & ice cream licking, friendos'.
lamberton5578 3 years ago
Thanks for watching! You know, there are films when I want the "empty theater" experience so I can concentrate on the flick, and there are some movies where I want to see audience reactions... Manny

A faglord? Does that mean he has lordship over many homosexual men? Does he have a big mansion that he rents out to them? Or is he the owner of an Apt. complex? Can I stay with him?

Chigurh, shoot the faggot in the forehead. wait, do the coin toss, and have him call sides, then shoot him, that would be fair. He's gayer than peter pan

scon10big0 3 years ago
You know how in movies people just find a crapload of money and get away with it? It's about how you can't.
sharkbyte33 3 years ago 2
yup yup a cowboy comes across a bag full of money from a drug deal gone wrong and people are after him Mexican gangs, and a crazy psyco killer.
its a really good movie even though people bitch bout the ending cause they want something that would be obvious instead of unexpecting but just get the movie its really good

religious are you? where is your Heaven?
urgeone 3 years ago
What would you do, if somebody comes to you and says: "Hey, you just got the same hairstyle as Anton Chigurh, the psychopathic assasin in NCFOM."
Telling him that you are actually the trend setter, not Anton, or maybe saying: "What buisness is it of yours, what my hair look like?" before you expressing your craziness in a weird ritual and than kick his ass extraordinary.
palasta 3 years ago
plus she's wearing a cross on her shirt...wow. you'll see.
