  • no fighting please!!! Hallstein is great and so are the likes of Mesple, Solenkova, Sokorska, Korjus, Welting, and later roster of Dessay, Vidal and Hoch. But in the realm of true acutes Hallstien is the most sensible and artistic. Chances are we may just have not heard it, but Dessay, Vidal, Hoch and Doindalska havel ikely run across their Hallstein and was influenced. Hallstein also recorded this in French and performed a live German broadcast with A6. Could anyone look for it in case?

  • I sang tenor roles in countess Maritza an princess czardas with her and the voice was superb with great agility!

  • Where has this beautiful diamond been hiding all this time?!!

  • @flowersings Most 20th century opera singers are now on Youtube. That's where Ingaborg is right now :) And I loved hearing hearing her version of Dinorah's Shadow Song. Very beautiful, quite possibly the best interpretation of the aria!

  • She is just sooooooooooooooooooo good!

  • schade, dass sie die arie in deutsch singt,

    das ist unelegant.

die stimme kann sich jedoch mit den grössten messen.

frau hallstein ist eine grandiose sängerin

  • Oh wow! What a splendid artist this lady is! Can somebody perhaps give a little historical background on her?

  • And again German what once was French. and i get only 1/3 on the text. Does anybody get easy or at all the words? Does it need a better skill of listening? May be in this Fach its generally difficult. Btw yes it`s gorgeous, hilarious.

Frau Hallstein seems to have no enemies at all. I never found a single negativ statement

about her skill or performance at all. Everybody seems to be " hin und weg " on whatever it is. And that seems to be rare in this scene.

  • "beauuuuuuuuuuuutiful..."

    Yes, that's Hallstein :)

  • beauuuuuuuuuuuutiful... although coloratura ;)

  • "Although coloratura"...I beg to differ. I would say BECAUSE of coloratura. However, your YouTube account is "Lohengrin" and I assume you like Wagner, but I do not like Wagner, so we're probably polar opposites in operatic tastes? :P To each their own!

  • I consider most pure coloraturas idiots - careful, not the music they sing, just the way they sing it.

Rarely, some coloratura soprani are serious Musicians as well as circus acrobats... Hallstein is one of the very few belonging in this category. So, for me it's "although coloratura"

  • I see where your coming from...this is why Dessay said she didn't like life as a colouratura I think. They're not really taken seriously or thought to be serious their singing.

  • entirely their fault... and entirely due to the lack of proper build of middle voice

  • So sad :(

  • I agree that Ms. Hallstein has a really beautiful and healthy sounding middle voice

  • Ms Dessay would say that wouldn't she. since she does not have 1 the skill 2 tallent 3range 4output 5perfect diction... should I go on. Ms Dessay is nothing compared with Her Majesty Ms Hallstein

  • Ouch. That's rather hurtful...and false.

  • I think Dessay was a really intelligent singer and one of the few leggieros who could also be dramatically effective even when doing acrobatics (sample her Aspasia). It s shame she has to stress her voice out so much trying to attain volume and power thats wasnt her's naturally.

  • Yes it was her naturally...but after her surgery things got difficult for her. Even E-flat's are hard on her. However, yes, probably the stress got to her voice because she worked it so much! But nonetheless, she actually puts emotion and drama, as you say, into the music, which I truly appreciate!

  • I would argue that the things her voice lacks has little to do with nature, and a lot more to do with a poor technique.

  • u think? in her earlier recordings and performances she seemed to be rock solid. if u check her martern aller arten i think thats a perfect example of a great technique, but pushing her instrument way beyond its capacities. of course it can be argued that being aware of one's limitations is one of the keys to good technique.

  • I have to disagree. To my ears, the voice was doomed from the beginning. As much as I hate to compare her to Callas...it's like Callas. Even in 1949, you could hear the dryness and wild oscillation in the top register coming. Nothing to do..well, comparatively little to do, with weight loss, much more to do with a faulty technique. Or rather, an approach to singing that disregards vocal technique in favour of expression. Which is fine, when you express like Callas, which Dessay does not.

  • @33blueberries I think it is about time we stop comparing everyone to Callas. Callas is great but whereas indeed everybody fell behind her shadows, die hard self absorbed fans do nothing but keep everybody else behind her. Some are dead already like Sutherland and Sills, are they still behind Callas' shadow? In terms of recorded archive and fan base maybe behind the seams but in terms of true artistry many could match and even surpass CALLAS. In the end they are all dinosaurs, last of their kind

  • @33blueberries

So you seriously mean she has a "poor technique"?
