Its more likely that the colonies of Mars will be underground. It will protect marsians from meteorites, while ground bases would be just a small building complex: landing zone, control center (control tower), entrance to underground cities, fuel tanks and some kind of mining facility. @azir64 I read on the NASA site that for future craft they will plan on using RTG's. These are radioisotope thermoelectric generators. They use fission to create electricity. This creates a steady flow of electricity day and night that can last over 40 years. It is absoloutly able to acomplish this.
I hope Science and NASA and governments will find ways to find a planet and quickly build natural resources that we need, for example : Houses, etc. In case our Earth gets too hot to live in due to Global Warmimg.

But apparently JPL will try and reboot spirit. the last contact made with spirit was in december 2010 and JPL will try and resume contact in march 2011.
So this robot costs 1/3 of the 8 Billion dollar Large Hadron Collider in Europe. A machine that is 27 Kilometer long with instruments the Size of Cathedrals. A machine that could well discover other Dimensions as well as the functioning of gravity itself, plus dark matter, dark energy and even more.

It's not real imagery, but what it shows happening will be real.

@azir64 I read on the NASA site that for future craft they will plan on using RTG's. These are radioisotope thermoelectric generators. They use fission to create electricity. This creates a steady flow of electricity day and night that can last over 40 years. It is absoloutly able to acomplish this.

@modelingisgreat well, first off, spirit is dead, and opportunity is soon to follow. second off, i agree. i think we should do less with mars until we can launch a guy there. the things we should be focusing more on are moons of jupiter/saturn, ceres (dont even have a clear image, but we soon will), and venus. also should look at permanent settlements on the moon.

@gorgeconowitz your right, we should focus more on the moons of saturn and jupiter. one moon in particular that orbits jupiter that is interesting is the moon europa, this moon might have ice or water below the surface. Venus is a planet that we should also go back to and try to land on it again without being crushed in the first 20 mins of exploration as proved by the russian probe the landed there ages ago.

@modelingisgreat europa is good. they are planning a mission to observe the 4 moons, callisto, io, europa, and gaymedine. i think that they should also send something else to titan because of the liquids on the surface, the organic compounds, and what not. im just waiting at this point for dawn to reach ceres, but it wont happen til 2015.... oh well

@gorgeconowitz coming back to the spirit and opertunity on mars, aparently spirit has switched off due to the harsh winter conditions and opertunity is just driving about and doing experiments like it always has done. But apparently JPL will try and reboot spirit. the last contact made with spirit was in december 2010 and JPL will try and resume contact in march 2011.

So this robot costs 1/3 of the 8 Billion dollar Large Hadron Collider in Europe. A machine that is 27 Kilometer long with instruments the Size of Cathedrals. A machine that could well discover other Dimensions as well as the functioning of gravity itself, plus dark matter, dark energy and even more.
This rover better be worth the money considering it`s smaller brother after many years haven`t even found a single bacteria. And US Dept is now the highest on Earth surpassing 14 Trillion Dollars.

@BINGO229 only 3, if you mean rovers. the one in the video hasnt even launched yet. our first shoe box of a probe we launched named sojourner is dead, but it was launched in the 1990s, so no surprise there. out of the twin rovers we launched, spirit and opportunity, only opportunity is still functioning, but is prolly gonna die soon. if you mean space craft on mars in general, then you can google exploration of mars, and go on the wiki page.
