  • Really Amazing. I'd be interested to hear it without the sub-woofer and without the tweeters. Those Dayton Exciters seem to work incredibly well.

  • High Fidelity? Not. Fail.

  • How many watts do you have to each? Very COOL!!! Would work great in my small apartment!!!

  • Wow!! This is Awesome!!!!

  • They sound overly bright. It's impressive for the materials tho but i could not listen to that sort of speakers for a whole day.

  • Do you have any type of adhesive bonding the aluminum with the foam panel? All you mentioned was the tape. It seems like the two pieces would vibrate against each other causing some nasty distortion? I just received mine in the mail today and you seem to have the best results I have seen so far, I'd like to replicate your setup as closely as possible. Thanks!

  • Wow, nice. Those "tweeters" I think would get annoying after a while, didn't sound too good as you went closer to them. The sound exciters though, pretty good for the mid-range for $17. I don't think I could look at squares of Alu though, I'd use these for a novelty "hide the sound source" thing ;-)

  • Nice sound very open, tubes sound great I honestly think they do. I'm so used to transistor and after I've seen how impressive my NAD 2200 amps are then I wouldn't change them. just wish they would make tubes amps with the power I need. Might get a tube pre amp so least I can add some warmth.

  • These are fun toys!

I didn't look thru all the comments...but have you heard Magneplanars?

I had a pair. Best speakers money can buy.

  • @ELECTECHNUT I agree.. Magnepan 1.6 :)

  • Hey guys, in case you're not sure how to use an exciter properly. The material used as the radiating surface needs to be light as possible. Thick, or heavy materials give poor results. I read where a guy used one under his 1-1/2" thick MDF desk top. Very poor choice!

In this application, their capability is being stifled by using the radiating area "cone", as support for the assembly. If the foamboard were freely suspended though, you'd get a much better result, not to mention better low end.

  • how about a drum or hand drum? anyone tried?

  • looks like a lot of fun, I am trying mine out for the first time today.

  • Smokin thanks. I've always wanted to play with those things, and now I know how. I love that amp, BTW. I wonder what would happen if you put two on a 24 x 24" panel?

  • yeah they are way cool

  • to the retard commenting on tube amps being for idiots.. You sir are a MORON. Listen bub.. even a professional will tell you.. A tube is BEST. what do you think was around before transistors... why do you think they are still around..

  • Tube vs solid state is meaningless, it's about the tone you prefer, and the tone your speakers prefer. Ive owned both since childhood.

  • Bull

  • You really know your stuff. Hopefully one day I can get to your level of expertise? Very intelligently spoken as well....Are you mad or something??? Sorry my tutorial upsets you so badly?

  • DUDE IMPRESSIVE !

  • you kidding !!

  • I completely believe it. I have a few pairs of exciters, and when I first got them I stuck a pair to the bottom of 2 cardboard boxes and laid the boxes on their sides and I was COMPLETELY amazed! Obviously it wasn't amazing sound quality, but for what it is...

And will all the snobby purists stop whining about the Tube Amp? Is it against the law to experiment with speakers using a tube amp? I personally prefer and amp with less distortion, anyways. ;)

  • @Sideshow541

I will only use a tube amp for recording music, not presenting it.

  • Wait. Why don't you talk over the music? Could it be because for the video you dubbed in music? I don't want to call BS on you because I believe what you've done is possible but it sounds almost too good to be coming from a hand-held video camera. Again, kudos for your work but the skeptic in me is still not 100% convinced...

  • Great job! Very impressed...

  • $5 speakers on a $1000 amp? OK! LOL

good quality video. they sound better than i pictured them sounding. i think i'll grab a pair of transducers for kicks now just to do another variation of cheap bike systems.

  • good job, those sound great! i have a pair and i think i will try your setup to see how they sound.

  • Great work. I wanted to try a set of these for quite awhile. I'm an engineer for 2 Cleveland TV Stations and have always wanted to try these on our lobby glass walls. And currently I am doing an install in a 100yo. mansion and need a speaker solution for solid brick walls with plaster and lath faces that only leave about 2" of depth. The owner doesn't want to see speakers if possible. I could mount these to a 12"sq. pc. of drywall and patch it into the walls- totally hidden. Maybe add a tweeter

  • Your kidding me right. You r using a tube amp like that to power those shit speakers. Anyways good job. They sounded pretty good in the video.

  • the point is, the speakers are the weakest link in this set up. solid state or tube wouldn't really make difference in this case.

  • 500-700.....Hmmmm.... I paid 400 for my tube amp? I think it is important to buy what you like. It is as simple as that. I like tubes, you like transistors....So??? Man, relax before you have a stroke or something.

  • @johammbass whoa- talk about petty, man- why don't you get some exercise or something and stop complaining about things that don't matter even if you're right about them. Way to sweat the small stuff, champion.

  • lucky for the horns

  • I'm sure there is not much difference between the Bose & Sound exciters because they both sound like wet poop splatter.

  • lol

  • what a load of crap, funny how there are some bose speakers in the corners of the room next to the pieces of crap he made so how are we supposed to make a decision on it, come on man you know this is how it was done!!! dont you!!!

  • No, you're the idiot.

  • no not really your the idiot wasting your time making the video, posting it on here and actually making the pieces of crap!!!

  • No you are the idot responding to that guy. God I love smart asses.

  • It's something home made if you think you can do beter than make a video demonstrating so.

  • That is cool hehe, nice man

  • WOOOOW nice

  • Sweet! Saw your post on Dayton had to look for myself. Do these require a lot of amp to power them? I've heard transducers weren't very efficient and took a lot of power. Could you use a 100 watt 2.1 receiver for these?

    Thanks for posting!

  • Hi, very interesting this exciters and your way to use them! I could imaginge to try this out.

But please, could you tell me on which album i can find this interpretation of Stephen Stills "The Ballad Of Hollis Brown"?

    BR and thank you!

  • Stills Alone is the album playing.

    Thanks Smokin Joe !!!

  • @smokinjoeh2750

mate im well impressed with the sound quality of those bad boys love that amp your using too and you did well to represent the sound altough i would love to be in the room to hear them properly

  • NICE TUBE AMP

  • Neat video very educational. Very nice setup you have their too.

PS I have that same subwoofer. It was a good sub for something from RS but the driver blew so I am getting a replace ment in the future.

  • Me too!

  • Coool! Mine is blown though.

  • I can vouch for the exciters as an employee at Parts Express....a co-worker has them in his office on the backside of the ceiling tiles running through his computer and they sound fantastic! One of our techs had them on a window and I thought we had installed outdoor speakers on our patio area!

  • Hello, I assure you that the video and audio is as it came off of my sony camcorder. I just purchased another set of sound exciters. I will post a "how to" as soon as I get time.

    Smokin Joe !!!

  • @smokinjoeh2750 I've heard some very high quality audio demos on youtube, including this one. Sony has been making high quality microphones since at least as far back as the early 1960's so it doesn't surprise me that their camcorders are capable of it. What you've done here is pretty impressive. They definitely remind me of planar speakers, which is amazing.

  • Yea, this sound exciter thing interests me as well. Although, the video really sounds like it was mixed.

  • Hey, I'm not not up on these sound exciters you talked about; however, I would love to see a detailed how to on these. From the second hand vantage point of a seriously cheap set of headphones they sound better than anything short of four figures. Waiting for the full details. Thanks!
