What about actual abuse? What about the -growing- problem of police corruption and increasingly ridiculous loop holes/tricks in the law being used against citizens with outrageous excuses. For example child in Florida falls asleep in the classroom, he's arrested and put on probation for 'disorderly conduct'. Police on tape talking about setting someone up. Police threatening to take parents' kids away and outright taking money out of their wallet. Police threatening women for sex favors.

Growing police corruption? They used to beat and threaten minorities all the time, and there's always been corrupt cops. The only difference now is that big cases like police publicly beating or harassing people are reported by the media and spread over the internet. Actual instances of police brutality and corruption were far more common before and during the Civil Rights movement than they are now.

Many conspiracy theorists are quick to claim that we're on the road to 1984, pointing out things like police brutality, corrupt government, the healthcare debate, etc. and claiming that the government exists purely to be evil and put down the people, and conveniently forget that all of the above have been around since the United States came to be, and all of the above are better than they used to be.
