This version is FAR too refined. The earlier versions were hot and RAW. As much as I hate what she endured with Ike, her music was better: rougher and nastier before she took on the more refined DIVA approach.

I thought I would be tempted to only praise the original (which is wonderful), but this is actually quite OK despite lacking the wonderful guitar groove of the original. Interesting variation, completely different. I like the the piano solo.

It always strikes me that the vocals always sound out of place, in these contemporary versions. Just because they're about the only natural part (if not processed, that is).

But apart from that, this is not inventive at all. Just trying to make money in an easy way and current software makes it rather easy to do so. The main reason why these recordings often sounds so cheap and soul-less. It just takes a lot of effort to make really good music.
