  • haha the old days of Youtube. Didn't know there was such a short limit on time back in the day. I joined in 2008 and barely used YouTube before that so yeah

  • Still as interesting as when I first saw this video back in 2006.

  • this man is a living breathing link to the past

    and an inspiration to many

  • 'You've left school behind and you want to get on with more important things in life'. Correct. School is trash.

  • normally when i hear people say during the war (or something similar) i think oh god but i liked watching this not boring at all

  • thank you.

  • I love watching these videos. You remind me so much of my grandads, who went through the same sort of thing as you. They had similar experiences during the war. It's so interesting to listen to you talk about the life you had. You are so nice to share your stories, as i know that it's not always easy to talk about the war. :D x

  • your a great man. you have inspired many

  • Peter, i wonder what kind of music you like..

  • @herauthon He likes blues. Check out his other channel.

  • Amazing! Simply Amazing! It's like reading a book. I really think that they could make your outstanding life into a movie and I would love to watch it!

  • peter your story is fantastic. thank you very much for sharing with us.

  • His information is very interesting, his life is said with honesty and his voice is soothing.

  • thanks for sharing with us peter

  • do you have a slideshow of all the actual motorcycles you've owned? I love motorcycles also...gotta Kawasaki KLR 650. But nuts about classic bikes!!!

  • Fascinating.

  • I really enjoy your stories, I am so happy that you decided to take on technology and tell the world your story!!!

  • My grandfather lived through World War II. He told me about it a few times. He was also born in 1927, and had to drop out of high school to support his family on the homefront. He was not drafted, however.

That was a very interesting story, Peter. It's very enlightening to hear something from an Englishman.

Your story and my grandfather's are both very wonderful (doesn't really seem to be the correct word, bit of an understatement, I suppose...).

  • This is so interesting, thanks for posting! :)

  • Wow...Fantastic! I love the telling it all series, i must have watched several times.

We love you Peter <3 ^^

  • I truely appreciate you making these videos and sharing your experiences with us.

  • Can't you be my granpa?? Mine was boring!

  • @Xallo72 not cool. Respect your grandfather. I never got to meet mine, as both died before I was born, and one was hit by a car just about when I was conceived I believe, less than a year before I was born. it's killed me for the whole eleven or twelve years that I've known (I'm 16). I'm sure Peter wouldn't like what you've said either.

  • you are a very brave man, my grandads never talked about the war.

  • Who the fuck are you to call this veteran a cunt? It's because of men like him that the nazis were beaten and your country was able to recover from the bombings. If you don't have the attention span to listen to an old man pour his heart out, head out with your chav friends and down some cheap lager.

Your ignorant opinions are unwanted. Show this man some respect, hes a better person than you could ever hope to be.

  • I didn't know signposts were taken down, that's creating an interesting image of the past in my head. Never knew that.

  • Yep the signposts were all taken down in the event the Germans were to invade they would not know the directions, Cheers.

  • You are wonderful! I am forwarding all your you tube links to my family - especially my parents because you are an example for your generation for acceptance and embracing change for the next generation. I hope I am as cool as you are when I am your age.

  • It's no hardship listening to you Peter. Thanks for making these snippets into your life.

  • I couldn't put it any better, glehnmarc!

  • Intense, honest and correct description of what military training does to men.

"... over six minutes ..." You're so sweet with that :-)!

    Allow you leeway?

I hereby award you the RCAUPCOL, aka Royal Class Alltime Unlimited Platinum Card of Leeway, to be used as you see fit!

Lee the way, Peter - we will follow you gladly :-)!

  • Yeah DVD! That'd be cool. But wow I didn't know that signposts were removed during the war! I can't quite think of the rationale for it.. maybe anti-spy? Anyone know?

  • I thought the signposts were painted over in the war, not removed completely.

  • Have these all been released on cd yet?

  • legend

  • great life story!

  • LOL, IQ of 10+ awesome vid

  • I just found your videos, and I love them!

  • He sure doesn't look 81! That's amazing! And he sure doesn't act like 81! what a really interesting guy! fantastic peter!

  • Well, Peter IS 78 in this video. :-p

But I agree, he's a very nice and interesting man, and he is the image of what YouTube should be about.

  • you are a grandfather for anyone with a computer and a fast internet connection that can understand english

  • this is really interesting

  • Sir, you are a time machine, and you are making history.

You are using possibly the newest form of communication, in a way that leapfrogs back to the very beginning of humanity.

You are reciting an oral history of life and events.

But this time, the whole world is gathered around your campfire.

    Amazing. Fascinating.

Did you consider when you started this, that your story would become immortal?

You are my favorite "TV" channel.

  • wow i didnt know that about the road signs

  • yep it was so if the Germans occupied, they wouldn't know where they were going!

  • ha. those sneaky brits!

  • This video is wonderful... History in the first person.

  • Wow, wow, wow! This is really fascinating-seriously! I think you're an incredibly man. You've been through so much and you tell your story so well! I will be sure to subscribe!

  • I was introduced to your page by an artlce i found online ... i believe you have many things 2 say that can/will help others ...

You are a great story teller ... i enjoy your stories ... thank you for the time 2 make each video ...

  • Hi my Dear Peter, It's me again. I'M hooked on your stories! I can't tell you how much this means to me! I LOVE history and I've been waiting all my adult life to have somebody just like you to tell your experiences to me! Hugs & kisses, Nnek@ ;o) xxx

  • Sir, I would like to again say thank you very much for telling us about your life. I have gained great respect for you and I enjoy watching our videos.

  • Please take your time. I want to hear more, more everything. More details, more information. I always feel that i have amassed alot of meaning full information (and im only 20) even though i only consider what ive leant in the last 2 or 3 years of any importance. well you have 60 years of that over me, so how man millions of peices of information would you have in your head that i want? even the bit on having no street signs i found interesting. PLEASE MORE!

  • Thanks so much for your videos, I have enjoyed and become enlightened by them. :) I love riding my motorbike too.

  • Just Great!

  • Thank you, sir. You're a wonderful man for sharing your life with the world.

  • Thank you for this, it's great to listen to while I'm browsing the web :)

  • What wonderful videos! thank you so much for sharing your life with us. i have great respect for you and i look forward to catching up on your videos.

  • It's so refreshing to have you on YouTube. My dad is an Army veteran who was in his 20s during WWII. Just like you, he has stories to tell about the war. Unfortunately, my mother's brother, a fresh graduate of the Philippine Military Academy, perished when his battalion was sent to face the enemy in Bataan. He fought side by side with the Americans in the Philippines, then a U.S. colony, right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He never came back home. Thanks for sharing and more power to you!

  • I have always admired your generation, thanks for you humour people were very humorous in the past and this is often forgotten.

  • Huh, Isn't it ironic? Two of my granparents are from Czech - former czechoslovakia, the third one (grandmother) was from Sudetten, quite strange both czech and german territory. and my grandfather was from germany and he actually fought in WW2. My grandfather could as well kill you in some battle ... but he NEVER wants to talk about it. He never told me a word about it .... 20th century was very strange and stressful. Thank you, geriatric!

  • Hey you got another subscriber :D

  • I love your voice, its calming =D...the bootcamp thing must have been really harsh...

  • I think the reason why I cherish these so much is because both my grandfathers died before I was born, so I never really had someone to tell me stories about the wars or about life at the time or about anything really, at least from a grown up point of view. I really do love watching them. Thank you so much!

  • ur vids are amazin this is incredible i luv ur vids and so do many people iv spoken to, they're amazin its so special to learn about how it reallyu was

  • It's great you can/want to share all this with everyone. First biography on YouTube? I think so!

PS: You have an amazing memory

  • i saw you on tv your the best !

  • Just started to watch your videos after the snippet about Youtube on the BBC website. Brilliant, looks like I'm going to be here all day to catch up to the present day!

  • All of your videos are so touching. :) I'm very grateful that we can have someone like yourself on youtube-- it's definitely a better place with you here. Take care.

  • you have been threw so much and i admire you very much and it must have been hard for you juring the war and we were doing a project on the second world war in school so i will tell them about this and we can all whatch and realy learn something

  • I just starting to watch your videos- I cant get enough! I find your storytelling very interesting and think that its great that your on youtube. Also your voice is so relaxing to listen to! Thank you, and keep on making more videos

  • I love this man. Good sir you are brilliant, i look forward to hearing more and more of your wisdom. Man, i wish my grandfather was still alive.

  • cool videos you rule

  • Nice Shirt, Gramps.

  • leave him alone !

  • Wow, these get better as you go along, on to # 3

  • You have a wonderful speaking voice. I bet kids would love to listen to you read to them.

  • What makes these videos great is that they will never become out of date. You remind me of my grandpa!

  • You know whats great about these videos? They have so much history in them, which is fabulous for me because my favourite subject is History! Keep it up!

  • wow that was great! I'm looking forward to seeing more of the videos.

  • I love your videos! I feel like I have so much to learn from you. You are one of the beams of light in an ever-darkening world of Internet scams, etc. Please keep enlightening us with your wisdom and wonderful, bright personality. :)

  • I don't know why some of you idiots feel the need to tell everyone that he is fake. Fake or not why the hell is it so important to you. If you think he's fake then simply quit watching his vids. We can all do without your little immature hissy fits. Coming here crying about how you think he is fake is not gonna discourage people from watching his blogs and it's not gonna change the way his fans feel about him so quit your damn crying.

  • hey dude you rule . the ariginal teller but i dont like all these copy cats aspecilly like the 1s that have just started there lifs... you r the best and dont listen to people that sey other wise..

  • Looks like I'm in for a long night of superb storytelling. Just subscribed to you and am watching your videos from the begining. They are mysteriously addictive and a pleasantly different from other videos I have been randomly sampling for the last week. Thank you for sharing with us!!!

  • fuck you insultman you just made that account to insult people wanker dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • You are a precious fellow!

  • Hi Peter, I remember seeing you on the news a while back but have only just started going thorough your videos, it's so no nice to hear from someone who actually has something to say. I'm sure I'll be up to speed soon, but you have a lot more guts than me you won't catch me on that side of the camera just yet. Good luck

  • Wow these videos rock!! sir plz tell us more about ur amazing life!!

  • The difference is that now we have the internet and human's highest power is communication, that is the way of getting out of ignorance

any way i'm gonna keep watching you're videose

  • Hallo, what I liked about your videos was the sound of irony about how the world was ruled and it's obvious that you have a deep sense for injustice, not one of the herd

I'm afraid that these days aren't much different. Someone steel decides for you if you're good enough

And the army is steel ruled by control and power freaks

  • nice efford, nice try. Keep walking! I like you because you dont give up on life!

  • Only at the beginning but I look forward to hearing more about you. I wish my Dad had been as open and honest as you, he died a sad lonely old man and having 5 children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved him or wanted to get to know him meant nothing to him. Reach out and touch the world and it will reach out and touch you. Love the way your shirt matches your wallpaper. Take Care, Tracy.

  • Your Awesome! Subscribing now.

  • holy cow! i got a whole new perspective of the war, i thank you for telling us about this!

  • i must say i have seen a few of your videos now and i enjoyed them all so much, thank you. your doing a realy great job and i must say that i have never found something like this on the web before. keep up the good work! im a huge fan!

  • Sir, I don't know if you are still (or were ever) reading these comments, but I want to thank you so much for your stories. I only hope that I have such a storehouse of knowledge when I'm your age. (At 40, I already feel I've forgotten more than I ever knew)

  • My mom was in a Boot Camp, she always said it made her less violent because you knew what you could do. Do you think that's true for you? Have a nice day ^^

  • i really love what you are doing. realised you have so many videos already,so i shall go thru them slowly. Btw, i got to know about you thru a local newspaper in my country some time back.

    keep it up :D

  • Oh, I am so far behind with catching up! I LOVE your shirt!

  • I should be going to bed, but I found your video and I'm hooked! I've even put a link to this on your blog. You are history, and it is fascinating. My mom, who is 87, tells me stories such as this (we're Canadian, my aunt was a WREN) and I wish she was as good on computers as you are. Anyway, on to part 3...

  • Great stories sir!

  • Bravo!!!The generations that proceed you need your edification. God Bless you!!

  • Thank you for sharing your stories with us, there are things everyone should hear. My grandfathers were in the war too but one is dead and the other just served as a medical aid. You have been through many things in ife but I can tell they've all made you stronger. You're wonderful

  • Love this work!!!

  • Hello peter .. thank you for all your videos , i am especially intrested in this video because i am due to swear my oath of eligance tomorrow morning ... My best wishes Dominic Lewis 25221340

  • i am sorry but his is really boring i respectyou and everything but i thing this site is for people in there teens and 20s but if you like this good for you

  • It's not for people in their teens it's for the world, let this man speak his words, I as do a majority of the youtubers find it fascinating.

  • (djpeckz) looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolz

  • You sound as though youve lived an interesting life. A lot diferent than the way my grandparents lived there life. I wonder if i should get them to do something like what your doing. It would make a bit of a change from Doctor who, which is all ive got on my acount at the moment. Feel free to have a look. Im also making a few other clips which you may be interested in. Such as an audeo drama about the war and a comedy horror set in a hotel (which hasnt been posted yet). Anyway goodluck.

  • pretty cool man, articulate.

  • This is very interesting. You do such a good job of telling your story. I loved the remark about needing an IQ of 10+. Just the right touch of saracsm. I also think it is important for people to hear stories like your's so they can know what generations before have gone through.

  • A thought just came to me that it would be nice to have all of your segments put together onto a compilation. In this way, you wouldn't have to be stopped by artificial time constraints when you talk about your life.

    "cat"

  • OMG U ROCK DUDE CARRY ON

  • ure amazing u r telling us that pensioners can settle in to modern society!!

He has a webcam and i dont!!!

  • I just happened upon this, gave it a listen. It took me back so many years. Listening to my Grandfather and Grandmother, thank you Mr. Pete, for the gift you are giving.

  • I thought comparing the training of draftees to pavlov's experiment was interesting.

  • Wow your stories are great, you should write a book about them, they are just so nice to listen to.

  • Nice vid. Again. Thank you for existing!

  • Salutes sir.

    Semper Fi

  • The part which caught my attention the most was that you were sent to Aberdeen to learn about radars. I've been visiting Aberdeen for my entire life (the whole 17 years it's lasted...) and I'm moving there for University next month! I never even stopped to think about what could have gone on there during the World Wars- other than what my Grandparents have told me.I hope you keep posting and allowing us to gain an insight into your life.

  • amazing!

I find your life so interesting - I agree with the top comment too: 'i don't think i could e
