Thanks this was very good. I tried this with both a soft (6B) and charcoal. It may be my paper but I had a harder time with the charcoal though in the end it gave a nicer result. I found I had to rub the charcoal with my finger to get an even tone.

This tutorial needs to note that this is not how artists SHOULD draw their noses, primarily because it's not observational drawing. You're essentially teaching people how to better themselves at how a nose is perceived, then applying translation through pencil. It's also not the most accurate drawing. I guess if it's for cartooning, then all is fine.

Instead of finger you can use shading tool then you'll got nice even shade like in portretart channel if you visited it. And for the rest of you this is great tutorial but in my opinion the best way to learn to draw is to look at the pictures and practice.

Thank you! This video was very very helpful, I have always had issues drawing noses but not anymore. I usually use my finger to blend but I think I may switch to your method. PS I looked it up and the area between your nose and upper lip is called "the philtrum", but lets stick with mustache holder :).
