  • religion is for sheep, if anything worship YOURSELF!

  • They don't give contracts to talented black folks anymore the music is to dangerous, only black thugs get to be heard and they are basically poets not God's Musicians.

  • Check out the STUDIOUS audience . . . I've always held Otis Rush at the TOP of my singer / guitar heroes list. He's his own man on both counts ! ! !

  • this is one bad mamma jamma

  • beats the shit out of the Led Zeppelin version

  • He is not of this world. Bless him. WIsh I could see him live. ♥ Love him dearly. My brother Desmond introduced me to his stuff. Absolutely changed my life. But blues & jazz were my first loves anyway. xx Peace and thank you for sharing this Never gets old, *hug*

  • @NoRosesForMe Kudos to Desmond.

  • @GhettoWerewolf Awww thank you. Indeed! My brother was amazing and the ONLY person I have EVER known who could sit and simply talk to me about music for hours. Just converse and share and swap stuff and just be real. I think Gamblers Blues was the first he gave me. ( Otis album) Think that was the one. I miss him so much. He is happier now than ever. I know this. RIP Des' ♥

  • Otis is the man and one of the baddest blues singer/guitar players ever!

  • BTF-OTIS

  • He sounds like a siren going off in the at the start I have no idea why the people in the audience are not moving maybe they are scared

  • @MrEdge0087 or in awe?

  • so good

  • That wail at the beginning always just slays me. It's like that's the entirety of the blues, right there.

  • Bakwards and upside down

  • get this fools comment outa here

  • an entertainers worst nightmare - a German crowd !

  • if we hadn't brought Africans to the USA - we'd still be listening to the Polka and the Chicken dance !

  • @buddyrush1059 Damn why I have to be all those names?

  • What happened to black people making music like this? Now they make SHIT compared to this art

  • @Lambs619

There are plenty of "black" people who still make good music today. However, a lot of it is NOT mainstream. Maybe if you looked deeper, instead of what's on the surface you would know that and wouldn't had wrote that ignorant question.

  • @villavillacola1111 How is it ignorant? It's all rap/generic R&B. You're a fucking idiot. Yeah, they is some good hip-hop and other stuff out there, but like I said, it's SHIT compared to real music like this. Oh, and go fuck yourself.

  • @Lambs619

Haha, your last comment sure makes you appear intelligent! You can dish out but can't take the heat? If you're a sensitive person, then maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself. All of it is NOT just Rap and R&B. There are plenty of "black" musicians today who do other stuff. Here since you're the true idiot, I'll even give you an example; type in Lightspeed Champion on youtube. Geez, I wish that people would "know" what they're talking about before opening they're mouths.

  • @villavillacola1111 Take the heat? How am I taking heat? LOL. Like I said before, you're a fucking idiot and you can go fuck yourself.

  • @Lambs619

Sad, that you have so much stupidity.

  • Comment removed

  • @Lambs619 Straight racist bud.

  • @Lambs619 You have to be kidding me.

  • @Lambs619 you are a racist asshole.

  • @Lambs619 "K?" You're actually worse than just racist. You just don't give a damn right? "K." Now I'm just in awe of how cool you are.

  • @Lambs619 "black people" still make good music. It's just that the masses and record companies love the "SHIT" that's out there to earn a quick buck. so you would need to do a bit of digging amongst all genres to find the gems. wish it wasn't that way but these are the times we live in.

  • @Lambs619 ...couldnt agree more !... this IS SOUL... from the soul..... the real shiznack !

  • @Lambs619

Who the fuck is "they"? You mean, the people with all the money and power at record labels have chosen to promote garbage music from the black community. Black people are STILL progressing their music and art. Just because you're not aware of it doesn't mean it's not happening.

  • @satinhooks K.

  • @Lambs619 all the white people stole it and tried to duplicate it so now they gotta make meaningless bullshit in hopes that white people will take that and give them the blues back hahahaha

  • @rngmstrdan Lol I wish that were true

  • @Lambs619 im black 24 years old, i agree 200%.

when i tell other young black people i play guitar and write my own songs they make fun of the fact.

but to them rap is the greatest shit ever.

you can listen to 90 different rap "artists" (not sure where the art comes in) and hear exactly the same thing with different musical arrangements. even the underground rap which rap fans will die trying tell you is so much better and different.

its a culture of stupidity, honestly

  • @90sRockWhore In 1957, when I was 15 years old, I attended a R&R, R&B show hosted by a Chicago south side DJ named Sam Evans (Jam With Sam) at the Chicago Civic Opera House. The featured artist was Little Richard; also on hand were a couple of doo-wop groups, Jimmy Reed, Otis Rush and Sunnyland Slim, all black artists. As far as I could see there was not one black face in the audience, nearly all white teenagers with leather jackets and long hair. An unforgettable show!

  • @brushcreek42 dont know what you're geting at... but you saw history, real pure history.

were black faces allowed in that place back then???

  • @90sRockWhore Blacks were allowed in the Civic Opera House. Chicago wasn't segregated in the way the southern states were. There were probably some blacks present, but they would have been in a tiny minority and they would probably been there to see Little Richard & the doo-wop groups. I believe that back in the 50s, most blacks had no interest in blues because of the connection of suffering on the southern plantations; something best forgotten. Think Amos & Andy.

  • @brushcreek42 i mean as spectators

  • oh man...that long, sustained note at the beginning...musical orgasm. right here.

  • 21 people need to quit their woman

  • this is why i love stumble upon!

  • what a voice - what a man !

  • I just love that Riviera...

  • This brotha is bad

  • When start my band Im goin to play this song with those shades....Otis Rush is TOO cool!!!

  • I liked listening to this because it reminded me of both Zeppelin and SRV.

  • oh wow.. i thought zep did this song well.. this is just awesome :)

  • like a scene out of the Blues Brothers - took a while for the dumb ass crowd to realise they were listening to pure magic !

  • I listen to this every single day !

  • The Big H??

  • otis plays a mean axe

  • @blacknuss6 the " Blue Dragon " in da' house !

  • 11

  • THE definitive version for sure !!!!!!!

  • boring crowd ..wish i was there.wounder if eric clapton was...love it.thank you..

  • @bry3921 The song was written by Willie Dixon. So is Otis just another cat singing somebody else's song, too?

  • @TheShriffer check out Willie's book, I am the Blues. he gives Otis big props. peace.

  • some people are mad at elvis, some are mad at pat boone, lot's of thieves, but there are Millions of people the world over that think that Led Zeppelin is the be-all and end-all and have never heard this original. Jimi restrung the guitar for left hand: Albert King and Otis Rush played the guitar as is, upside down. It's a rare miracle of creativity. Plant is cool, chicks dig him, but he's just another cat singing somebody else's song.

  • WWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL>>>!!!

  • ..Till 0:23 I thought the freakkin flash player had crashed and was repeating.

  • I you can't dig these blues you got a hole in your soul baby!!!

  • the path's may be different but in the end all road lead to the same place as long as you keep god in your heart and truely wish for salvation

  • guys ive never really payed much attention to blues, ive been playing guitar for about 3 1/2 years im more into more like iron maiden dio ozzy metallica judas priest, but this is amazing........... soooo soothing to play along with

  • @JoshGoldie If you like this then you should try listening to B.B. King, Albert Collins, Freddie King, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Johnny Guitar Watson, Albert King, and T-Bone Walker.

  • awesome!!!

Satanic Led Zeppelin destroyed this treasure

  • @trifulquita15 noooooo... digas eso la version del zeppelin es increible nunca pierde la escencia del blues y la voz de plant majestuosa

  • @trifulquita15 how is led zeppelin satanic??? forgive me i know im just a young dumb kid at the ripe age of 22 but that statement was about the most insane thing i have ever heard

  • @rngmstrdan Led Zeppelin was one the first heavy rock bands in history among Black Sabath, Deep Purple, etc. These famous bands, all non-christians. Coincidence? Maybe. All they got succes very fast, being rich at 27 yrs old is not easy in this world. Coincidence? Maybe. Before these bands, people in the West were christian, not good christians, but christian anyway, after these bands the West is not christian anymore. Coincidence? No. Too much coincidences are reality.

  • @trifulquita15 just because they dont acknoledge a specific ideology or religious belief does not mean they worship the devil. and just because someone is a christian does not mean they they are truely a good person personally i believe that any organized religion is detremental to true spiritual growth god doesnt care what church we go to or how we celebrate our faith only that we do have faith and do everything in our power to truely become honest and good people.

  • @rngmstrdan that's true, religion doesnt make good persons, but some religious music yes, its possible. when you go to a Hillsong concert is definitely a religious experience. Music has the power to transmit emotions more easy than other arts, it really can help you to be a better human being, sadly music can be destructive too, many people don't beleive that, they say: "its just music".

  • @trifulquita15 i will agree with you on that one there's nothing more uplifting than spiritual music however as long as you dont let the music become your life there's no harm in enjoying a song that you find speaks to you nomatter how controversial it may be i'll be the first to admit that the message in alot of songs and music now a days and even back then isnt the way life should be lived however it can also be used as a tool of realization of ones downfalls

  • @trifulquita15 you sit there and hear the songs about sex drugs and rock and roll and feel it should be completely avoided at all costs i sit there and listen to a song and see people living their lives right to the same idea as the song and i see how they end up, either dead or in rehab constantly struggleing with their addictions and realize that that is no way to live my life so i avoid allowing my life to imitate the art. simply put just because we listen to songs doesnt mean we live by them

  • @trifulquita15 ---Zeppelin didnt destroy it baby...they gave it to a new generation...it's what made me investigate..and I'm glad I did cuz I am lovin this too! : )

  • @amusingmyslf Zeppelin sold their soul to the devil as Robert Johnson did. i dont wanna be racist but the devil is white

  • @trifulquita15 *I'm sorry, I dont want to laugh at you, but there's no such creature as "The Devil" So how can someone sell their soul? Some guy named "Jesus" is famous now,...did he sell his soul too? Why are you bringing your rabid dog fight to this forum? Are you that starved for attention? Is your "religion" new for you and your just so full of conviction that you have to annoy everyone else? you are not spreading "gods" love here, you are making unprovable horse shit statements.

  • @amusingmyslf ugh!!, you dont know nothing about Robert Johnson's legend and the crossroad in the Mississipi river delta.

Im from Bolivia, some indigenous musicians drop their instrument in the desert, the next day the took their instrument and play music like masters, they sold their soul to the devil (el Tio).

  • @trifulquita15 Dude, What are you rambling about? Crazy stories , shame on you for having such a weak mind.

  • @amusingmyslf Satanics are sooooo stupids. Christian gospel is the root of blues n rock. LOL they don't know they are listening christian music = D

  • @trifulquita15 I know blues and rock history like everyone else. No doubt old spiritual music influenced the genre of blues and rock, but the message for alot of it has changed, and I'm glad of that because I wouldnt want my mind infiltrated by the poison of religion, your mind is controlled by the insipid tactics of the evil organization known as" religion". You are no more than their little slave dog.....there's a good puppy!! Do as your told and maybe god wont rub your nose in his shit. =D

  • the perfect guitar solo

  • The guy on Bass is just epic!! I don't think I've ever heard such smooth Bass playing.

  • Someone please tell me he's still alive?

  • What words can describe the baring of the soul and gutbucket blues pairing of both his guitar playing, storytelling ability and vocal skills? No comparison can be made IMHO between Rush and his many imitators. Why settle for wannabes when you can get the real thing?

  • and they said Elvis had the greatest voice............

  • why the fuck does Otis have to be compared to page? this is the world upside down. Jimi took a right handed guitar and restrung it left side. Albert King and Otis Rush played the guitar upside down. backwards. I don't want to, but i will lecture. Listen to the first chorus of his solo a few times. If you don't get it, you never will. come on people, how out of place is he? they're dressed so cool. the audience should have note pads. beads of sweat rolling down his cheeks

  • Is a Master, a master of a free heart

  • HAHA look at all the white ppl in the audience , haha they aint never seen nuttin like this!!

  • Anyone know who's playing piano on this number?

  • OTIS REALLY DROPPED IT ON EM !!!! LOL

  • CLAUDE HAVE MERCY !!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW

  • Man is it me or did he start off that solo like a painter would start a canvas. Nice approach their Mr. Otis.

  • love the devils rejects :)

  • @AnthonyStJames Led Zeppelin looked at that as advancing the blues and showing it to a whole new generation of people. yes i do agree they should have given the credit for at least the lyrics to their original writers.

  • tears your soul out....

  • why is everybody talking about fucking led zeppelin on here? this is a sick otis rush video so maybe make a comment on that. if you want to talk about a long haired squealing girl trying to sing this song but actually ruins it go comment on a zeppelin video.

  • Man I dont know about you all but uh did all those folks have "Rigor-Mortis" or what. I would have been in tears if I was their or something.

  • Bring It on Home starts as a traditional blues song and then EXPLODES into Led Zeppelin awesomeness I think that is a perfect example of the band in their early days. They were a Blues Folk Rock band and then you have songs like KASHMIR, The Rain Song and Bron-Yr-Aur.

  • Led Zeppelin also ripped off Willie Dixon and had to pay him over $7,000,000. The white boys posers that tried stealing the music of the BLACK artists that created it never came close to gettting it right. They never picked cotton, got called nigger, were slaves and considered farm animals or paid any other dues. They never played the "Chitlin' Circuit" in the Jim Crow South in the 50's and 60's. They stole, like most white people, from people that at the time couldn't fight back.

  • This is the best.

  • and don't forget they also had Indian/world music influences..like In the Light and one of their biggest hits Kashmir which Plant calls the song that defines Led Zeppelin..Also I know Bonham was influenced by Jazz drummers.

  • Zeppelin did alot more than just blues, obviously they should have gave credit..but they did't get to where they are from just playing the blues. It was the mix of all their influences..folk, rockabilly, blues, psychedelic music, rock. They did tributes to their favourite blues guys as many others did(more often in the lyrics) and they borrowed just as everybody does, they would usually put their own spin on it or at least make it alot more rockin'..Dazed and Confused is a prime example of both.

  • @FrequentlyFried Zep did ROCK, not Blues. There's a universe of difference between the two. I can't remember the name of the L.A. Blues musician they stole the hook for dazed and Confused from. He released it in 1962.

  • Zep did blues on the first 4 albums also Levee Breaks on 4, also Robert Johnson refrences in the lyrics on Trampled Under Foot and Travelling Riverside BLUES. They borrowed and did tributes to their influences more than covers because they always made it to fit their style..it's blues rock.lol Hendrix did the same with songs like Killing Floor, Zeppelin just named it Lemon Song..great example of zep blues or Since I've Been Loving You from 3 they took the blues somewhere else as Hendrix did.

  • Obviously Led Zeppelin was a great band , but not only should THEY have credited Otis Rush and all the other RB artists & Writers , they SHOULD HAVE WRITTEN A BIG FAT CHECK AND SAY THANKS FOR HELPING US TO CREATE OUR CAREERS .

  • @franz909 Zep DID have to write Willie Dixon a big fat check after getting sued.

  • By far my all time favorite rendition of "I can't quit you baby!" Go on 'head Otis!

  • The English musicians' interpretation and performance of blues and R & B songs made it THEIR sound and music, Ditto Jimi Hendrix.

    Electrix

  • 20 ppl quit they baby

  • Ooooweebaby sure sound good to me. Otis Rush is the Man! Powerful voice and smokin' guitar. You can hear what moved Mick Bloomfield's soul when you listen to this Otis Rush performance. And of course the look-dude dresses so cool and the upside down Epiphone right handed semi-hollow guitar. Too hot to funk with! Please check our you tube site for a tribute to blues legends- johnnyguitar335

  • he looks like stevie wonder a little bit

  • and eric clapton copied his vocal style 100%

  • @3rdStoneObliterum and what about the giutar licks??

  • man was Hendrix influenced by this monster.

  • led zeppelin tried too hard, this is natural and effortless.

  • @bran1226 So true... He belts out that 1st note like it was nothing.

  • way better than led zep version! way more soul!

  • male version of christina aguilera...

  • @TheUniverca No, Christina Aguilera is the female version of Otis Rush.

  • @Ruffian71 Yeah! Thats ok for me. But I wish time let them to sing a duet together! That would be fantastic!

  • Man what a voice.

  • how come???????? 20 dislikes damn you hurt me deep down inside

  • He sure can yell! lol

  • reminds me of the devil's rejects

  • The Stones and Zeppelin got sued by Willie Dixon for stealing his music and they had to pay him a whole lot of money.

  • the singing and guitar playing is really really really good. But Otis' hair do kicks majos butt!

  • If you look up "cool" in an online dictionary and it doesn't have a link to Otis Rush in this performance, then write to the editor because it is sadly incomplete.

  • Nothing but crackers in the audience!

  • @wafflesarestr8 you're right. Some of these comments show nothing but ignorance. One guy said that all the Black guys stole it all from whites. Can you imagine Little Richard standing at his piano with a sport coat and a tie singing Tootie Frutti on Rooty, when he already had Tooti Frutti Good Boot? So you know what all you crackers line up cause it's Wop Bob A LouLa and then Bip Boom Bam.

  • I really dont wanna see a Kentucky Fried Chicken ad before Otis Rush, and I'm pretty sure Otis wouldn't either.

  • @yanis3 I know Otis and he wouldn't mind as long as he got paid. He also happens to like KFC.

  • @iketurnerbitchtamer interesting!

  • @yanis3 hahahahaha thats racist

  • Sexy motherfucker! Goddam!

  • MOTHERFUCKIN SOUL

  • Who's the guy introducing him? Is that Roosevelt Sykes? Too cool.

  • @Jer64ss sure looks like him.

  • @Jer64ss Yes, that's "The Honey Dripper" himself.

  • my name is otis :)

  • I wish I could sing with that much soul!

  • @jubilant23 - hell, i wish i could even yell with that much soul.

  • Herman is not impressed - but I am !

  • screw those 20 people that dislike this!

  • Hahaha, lol ;D

  • As much as I love Led Zeppelin THIS IS BADASS! I think this is better than Zeps version

  • You know you hate to get in these kinds of arguments, but 90sRockWhore's comment is hard to ignore. No disrespect to Led Z, but compared to Otis, Zep's version is pretty flat and lifeless. Otis' version is dripping soul and that's as about as cool and as understated a guitar solo as you're going to find. You can't do this song any better.

  • The Black Panthers play the blues.

  • What a voice.

  • For years I performed this song with the big opening vocal note, a la Willie Dixon and Otis here, and Plant later. Audiences either stared at me like I had 2 heads...OR...they knew exactly what was coming like the blues equivalent of an air raid siren, and dug the hell out of it. Funny, the dicotomy. Hitting the big opening IV chord was such a great tension reliever as a guitar player, the entire rest of the song is anticlimactic by comparison. This is great video!

  • Try playing a guitar upside down. Many thought Hendix did that. Nah. This is the cat. So much soul. And while plying to a Smother Bothers audience.

  • Dave Meyers on bass. blues legend.RIP

  • Look at how bored those people in the front row look!! What's WRONG with them??

  • @asktunes they probably want the superficial, instant gratifying pop music of the day, meant for mediocre minds with short attention spans

  • Holy cow, the guy was waaaayyy ahead of his time. Damn!

  • Holy shit! look the way he starts the song!

  • There's no way somebody can sing this well! He's just too good!!

  • where is this? what "series" is it from?

  • Zeppelin is good and all that but they cant touch this. So much soul right from the beginning. You cant beat the old school blues just respect.

  • ill take the zeppelin version. it was light years better than this one, thats exactly why they covered this, and most of the other songs they covered. most of these old blues songs were boring and Page fired the shit out of them with blistering solos and heavy riffing.

he and other white artists, and the irreplaceable Jimi Hendrix reinvented the blues and in my opinion made it what it should be.

no wonder pagey didnt give any credit for borrowing these songs, he basically rebirthed them.

  • @90sRockWhore The Brits played these songs because they were so friggin good and they tried to copy them but like Sonny Boy Williamson said while in Europe "Man, those white kids want to play the blues so bad and man, they are bad!" Comparing Zep to the true blues is comparing apples to oranges because Zep plays big ol' boring rock. Buddy Guy can shred with the best . Clapton emulated the guitar and voice of Rush. Give credit where it is due.

  • @ribluesy yeah i respect that view, just my preference, i like big loud expansive songs
