  • COMMON SENCE ITS REAL. Do to the heat that exites the OXYGEN's particles it kicks mos of the air particles out leaving very few particles compare to the atmosphere. therefore when it cools down atmospheric pressure neutrulisez the pressure within the barrel by crushing it.

  • I don't think it really happened. It looks to real to be real.

  • What a waste. These barrels are getting hard to come by these days as the plastic ones become ever more popular.

if it's the fun of crushing you like so much do it to pop cans lol

  • did it rip at all or was it still sealed?

  • darn i blinked

  • that was perfectly good drum

  • wast of a good drum...lol can you do this with a kid inside so we know what happens

  • Don't try this at home, In-it.

  • Fun with thermodynamics 101!

  • but where is the prestige part of this show? will you restore the shape back? :)

  • Yes, but will it blend ?

  • @Blackdisco80 nice try.

  • It's so easy to do at home with a soda can

  • this makes me want to try it at home.

  • This demonstrates why it is not a good idea to plug your nose when you go outside into the cold! :) :)

  • this is queer

  • GREAT! :D, now do it again with justin bieber inside it for me please.

  • big dent

  • imagine the noise that makes

  • If you spun it (rolled it) when you put it in the water, would it collapse quicker?

  • @Maxid1 Yes, most likely. Anything that would speed up the condensation of the steam inside, creating the vacuum, will would make it collapse faster.

  • Would this make my fat belly dissapear?

  • it folds for easy storage!

  • Fill a water bottle with hot water. dump it out and put the lid on fast. watch...

  • outch o_O

  • хуйня какая то. не удивили :(

  • 6 people blinked at 00:23

  • ehehehe you said...bung. bungholio.

  • it implodes...

  • i do this with coke cans :P

  • @AlchemistHawk Same here aha

  • In slow mo plz?

  • Timelapse.

  • @yerk3 Thats not timelapse

  • @joey1364 I wasn't saying it WAS timelapse, I was saying it would be good if there could be timelapse. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

  • @yerk3 Oh like slow motion whatever its called? that would be cool

  • good thing it shrunk instead explode.

  • i used to do that with soda cans...

  • where can i buy a 55gallon drum and for how much?

  • why? such a nice drum ruined

  • I blinked, what happened? Hulk smash? Chuck Norris' telekinesis? Homeless guy with golden voice made it implode?

  • gf can

  • So if I breathed in a bunch of hot air into my lungs and jumped in a bathtub full of ice would I implode? XD

  • Ooops, I didn't mean to use the force..

  • implosion.

  • This happened to a real railway tanker wagon. XD

  • I blinked.

  • Impresionante

    Un saludo

  • You can fake telekinesis video with this. :D

  • This is a good demonstration of why a 55 gallon drum is not a good starting point for a home made 1-atm submarine, unless you want to make custom "form fitting" knight's armor. LOL

  • @IMFHO Did you just laugh at your own joke?

  • @ChristheBunneh

You don't laugh when you tell a joke? Even if its yours?

  • @IMFHO If they reinforced the insides - where the two grooves are - i reckon it wouldnt be too bad to a relatively shallow depth

  • @IMFHO

hmmm not a bad idea actually...

  • @IMFHO You high bro? xD

  • @killshotnation Nope. But thanks for asking. LOL

  • You can use a "coffee tin" type press in lid - container; on the top of a stove.

Get big tin., add about 5 - 10% of volume in water, stick over a low flame, put lid on, just gently resting under it's own weight, wait until steam is pissing out from under the lid, turn off stove at the same moment that you bang the lid into the tin - then just stand back.

Cold water speeds up the contraction of the steam into water....

  • open the lid up and stick your dick in it. Instant growth :)

  • OK bill nye the science guy.....

  • implosion

  • where can i get a 55 gallon drum?

  • @uniforchrist You can pick them up at any 55 Gallon Drums Are Us.

  • @uniforchrist Walmart

  • @uniforchrist scrap yard

  • this would be a great sci project

  • Why the atmosphere does not crush our bodies?

  • @RerailMe Because our insides is not a vacuum

  • @RerailMe because the pressure from the fluids in our bodies are greater than the atmospheric pressure outside our bodies, thus protecting the pressure from crushing us.

  • @RerailMe same reason we would explode in space

  • i like that glove

  • Imagine your head in space.

  • @nazi8per that would be a completly opposite effect

  • no audio?

  • Hacker!

  • somebody divided by zero...

  • and now we know how artists make there art

  • Nice!!! Physics in action...

  • I would love to see this in super slow motion

  • I don't live in California, I don't smoke weed, I don't care about your retarded referendum style proposition and I think most of your 100'000+ viewers are the same.

  • @Treblaine What the fuck? Random much?

  • @cursedswordsman true though

  • How melodious would that steel drum be now?

    A flat?

  • great for the science fair

  • Where can I find these locally?

  • just goes to show you just how HEAVY the atmosphere really is.

  • i seen that happen to a rail tanker once. yard workers washed it out with hot water then closed it up in the middle of december. in Chicago. talk about load as hell

  • how the fuck did that happen ?!

  • @Overfall1 when metal gets heated up the cooled fast the air sucks in to its self and makes the can collapse i think

  • @grmbanzon

The vapor of the water heated caprures the full volume of the tank

then when we close the tank and put it into a cool / icy tub

the vapor returns to it's previous state (liquid ) and the initial volume

this causes vacume wich lead into this implosion .

  • @blobby1972

there are three way heat travels

    1) conduction - eliminated by vacuum

    2) convection - when there is no flow there is no convection

    3) radiation - cannot be eliminated by vacuum

thermos bottle only eliminates the two of the three ways of heat transfer

  • @blobby1972 you would not blow up, there's not enough pressure. the ocean is huge so when under water, that entire weight of the ocean crushes you, or in this case it's the atmosphere crushing the barrel.

  • @wasssuppp08 YEAHH hehehe i like Jeremy Clarkson style of "Where no one can hear you scream!"

  • Real or Not?

  • @kenth65 real

  • @olesto cant shop videos.

  • this is killing me, drums like that are pricey and i need one to make a home made bbq smoker.... wanna send me a clean drum??

  • This drum clear for shredder.

  • haha bung

  • How high do you fill the drum? I wanna do this in shop class

  • copy + paste + read =

    1. Get 55 gallon drum 2. Fill with 8oz water 3. Heat drum until water boils 4. Close bung 5. Place drum in ice water

  • @Fender409 .......wow, lol. The only time I didn't read the info

  • @MetallicAsian it says 8oz of water in the description.

  • How long did it take to heat up?

  • what a waste of a good drum... ;(

  • @pettdog, lol

  • lol, l love watching physics at work. This gives me such a wicked idea for a camera tracked video :) ;)

  • "For those too lazy to engage heavy machinery in crushing those pesky empty drums" lol

  • The water is boiled creating steam. Steam is a gas and has more volume than a liquid. When they seal the drum the gas is trapped inside. When they put the drum in the cold water, the gas condenses back into water which has less volume than gas. There is no air to fill the space previously taken up by the gas. Because there are not enough particles to push on the inside of the can, the atmospheric pressure overcomes the pressure inside and the drum implodes.

  • very interesting

  • how would a perfect sphere react to this type of experiment any one know?

  • That's a very good question. I think the place where the cap is or where the valve is attached would be the weak point where it would implode or possibly just rip.

  • If you did this with a perfect sphere, I'd assume the place that hit the water would cause the steel or whatever to get sliiiightly smaller, and that'd be the weak-point.

Assuming it was cooled from all sides, and etc etc,

    Noooooooo clue at all.

  • They would reach extremely velocities as they imploded and collected at the geometric center of the sphere, generating such high temperatures at the center that nuclear fusion reactions could be generated among the sub-iron components. We're talking about a hydrogen bomb in your neighborhood, folks! So be careful with your perfect spheres!

  • that's why most deep dive subs are made in the shape of a sphere... theoretically, with perfectly even increase of pressure to the outside, a perfect sphere cannot be crushed without overcoming the crush pressure of the metal on edge, which is much higher than the pressure needed to bend the metal along it's surface.

  • You are retarded as fuck.

  • @scythelord u think fuck is retarded? dick less.

  • yup

  • Goes to show you the violence of atomsphereic press.

  • LOL atmospheric press ftw!!!

  • @NutsandGuts

    No... not really.

  • @NutsandGuts It should be a move in street fighter

  • we did this in class. hah.

  • I made a sick ass fire pit out of one last summer, my friends have had a couple fires in it.

  • waste of a nice burn barrel

  • pump it back up

  • dont crush such a nice drum, make a fuckin stove out of it.

  • well, if you heat it up will it explode?

  • To quote Adam Savage (after he had inhaled sulfur hexafluoride) "IT'S SCIENTIFIC! HA HA HA!"

    Cool video BTW!

  • no comments, and only 36 views? why, good video though
