We need to keep proper inspections for meat products imported. I disagree with cutting WIC program, and how can any of our leaders suggest to start up again to inspect horse meat? This meat is not for us ,it is for foreigners. Create a fee for anyone breeding horses, they got us into a big mess. Let them clean it up; and keep our horse slaughter plants closed..
Please keep the S.1176 amendment language defunding USDA inspection of slaughter horse meat for human consumption !! I would definitely rather have my tax money go to WIC !! I do NOT want my tax money supporting the cruel industry of horse slaughter to send libelous, tainted with medicine that is NOT intended for human consumption, horse meat to a foreign market and profits few.
Out of the mouths of American babies and into the pockets of Corporate Lobbyists - Shameful !!
You want to cut the budget? Start by saving in excess of 5 million dollars by defunding USDA horse meat inspection to cater to a foreign market, serving them toxic meat. We don't have the funds to properly inspect our food. I don't want my tax dollars wasted on foreign pallets. Stop pandering to pro slaughter campaign donators and do your jobs ladies and gentlemen!
In light of the recent Listeria outbreak which killed over 20 people, I am appalled that the bill could allow horse slaughter to be returned with the owners of the slaughter plants paying their wages! Conflict of interest anyone? This would take time and effort away from the inspectors ability to work at keeping the food that North Americans eat safe in an already stressed budget. North Americans do not eat horse meat and it often contains drugs banned from the human food chain!
Failed to mention that a bi-line in this bill is the approval of federal inspection of horse meat that will be sent overseas. Thus, bringing horse slaughter back to America. This bill is a mistake from start to finish.
