you are awesome! We are learning a lot. we are starting some vieos and a tv show in the local public tv and you are our teacher!! Thank you very very much.
Just the video I was looking for! I've gotta try this. Chris: I'm sure if it were anything other than a translucent shower curtain he would have said so.
Ah Ha! Shower curtain FTW. I was racking my brain trying to find a fabric or something to create a large softbox. I was even thinking parchment paper taped together but shower curtain rules.
I got to at least hand it to this guy for "Studying" the light quality and how it works and how it is achieved and changed. Light distance to diffuser panel and light panel size and closeness to subject all which have huge effects on the light quality or softness. Now will I go out and make my own softbox no but I have to at least hand it to this guy studying it..
good idea, but wouldn´t You get some trouble with the color-temprature of the work-light? I mean, especially in case, when You mix it up with fluorescent bulbs w. 5500K, ore so. The wl´s have about 4000(?) K. But, I will definately check out Your setup ;-).
def. feels like i'm in class....even jotted down some notes! lol great explanation of the softbox look my dude. cheap and efficient.....two of my fav. words, along with "free." good job bruh.....
Great video, Nick. So helpful. I never thought of using a plastic shower curtain. From what I see in your video, the plastic a bit more opaque than fabric, so it seems to diffuse better. Thanks for taking the time.
And how about using a steel kitchen mesh strainer? I have a 2x500W lamp, I don't want the diffuser to burn, that's why I was thinking about steel strainer?
As the light passes through the curtain does it gain in kelvin value? So I wouldn't have to clip a correction gel over the light? What if the shower curtain was a white color instead of translucent? Would that increase the kelvin value more so than the translucent material? What's the minimum distance you can place the shower curtain away from the work light without the curtain becoming a fire hazard/pile of melted plastic?
Very good explanation with lots of references to real world situations that this will work with. The huge shower curtain idea is awesome! Thanks so much for your efforts.
I really enjoyed your video! I think you did a great job explaining the types of material used, especially the fact that a "heat-proof" material would be ideal. Thanks, I'm definitely going to watch part 2.
Great Video. I like that you spend so much time actually showing the effects/results. It is soft and with a soft fill it could certainly be used in a professional setup. I'm leaving to pick up a white shower curtain right now! Thanks.

Excellent my friend. Good job.
Nobudgetkalie has a good point. Will 250/500 a work lamp and/ fluorescent bulbs mess up your color? Or does a custom white balance take care of it?

How do you change the exposure on your work lamp?
fuckinwok 2 years ago
@fuckinwok
I believe he was increasing his exposure compensation on his video camera a stop or two.
sumitino 2 years ago 2
YES @fuckinwok it does a soft box has more control (light spill) at the backend but it will work fine!
