I am from Iowa as well, next time you go out dont forget your orange !! that could be costly, dont want that... otherwise mice shot, looks like it only went 3 feet, straight down. I have a .357 and hope to get a deer with it, I carry it with me during late muzzleloader.
What size barrel is on that one. I was looking to buy one for hunting and possibly carry. I've seen videos where the 3" does well out to 75 or 100 yards. The 4" would be more accurate at that range but a little more challenging to carry. And same again with the 6''. Whats your two cents on barrel length?
@tlock6430 Depends on how far you want to shoot. I have the 6 inch barrel and have shot 5 shot groups under 2 inches at 50 yards using hand loads. I would feel comfortable shooting the 4 inch out to 50 yards or so on deer. I personally wouldn't use a GP100 for carry. I'm skinny and that gun is just too big to conceal well. I currently have a Ruger LCP for carry and am looking into a Kahr p40.
@Duckhunterbow haha funny you said that... I had to leave half way through second shotgun season this year and told my cousin to shoot me a deer while I'm gone. Sure as shit he shot me a little button like that one, guess what else... best tasting loins I ever had! :D
What load? I'm planning on using up some Speer 146g JHP's I have laying around, but when I run out I was thinking about getting some Sierra 180g Tournament Master FPJ (Fully profile jacket, lead core.). Any thoughts? How hot have you loaded them? Or are you shooting factory ammo?
@rNdDynamikkDuo I was shooting federal fusion 158gr jhp. I've only loaded some Hornady 158gr XTP hollow points to around 1100 fps. Most of the reloading I've done was light 38 special loads for plinking and target shooting. I haven't loaded anything real hot yet. The Speer loads will be good for deer. I probably wouldn't shoot the FPJ bullets for hunting. If you want a heavier bullet for hunting, I'd go with a hard cast solid lead bullet. Similar to what buffalo bore uses in their ammo.
I just bought the 4 inch barreled GP100 -- would accuracy change much do you think compared to the 6?

@MrGunsnfun The accuracy of the gun should be the same. The 6 inch will just be a little easier to shoot accurately with the longer sight radius.

@cattleman82 I know. I noticed that too. I didn't even think to grab it since the deer was in the back yard.
