JakeMikeTroy, I think she sometimes does gets caught up in the moment and that makes her do vocal gymnastics that she wouldn't normally do. I don't think it's "planned" because she tends to hit songs and then doesn't hit them in that same way later performances. The crowed was getting into her.

It's good that we have variety and she chose to give us a different version of the song to listen to. It'd be pretty boring if everyone sung it the exact same way. Kelly does a great job with her personalized rendition.

Btw, if you are looking for an outstanding traditional version of the song without the embellishments, Amy Grant does a wonderful rendition of "Grown Up Christmas List."

durhamm1988 - It was probably supposed to be like that. On American Idol, you usually sing shortened versions of the song. So for time, they cut the song.
