@Derminkator I know that I've in fact seen several popular TV shows, such as "Degrassi Junior High" and "Seventh Heaven" as well as recent movies, such as "Saved" and "Juno" that, quite to the contrary, illustrate many of the obstacles that teen mothers face. It also seems that any time there is an uptick in the number of teen pregnancies, there is a 20/20 episode or news special that tends to report on it, and they hardly seem to be putting it in a positive light.

There are entire indigenous tribes that are atheist. If you are suggesting that atheism is somehow the epitome of Westernization, you would be wrong. Assuming by "the 10% of Americans" you are referring to the atheist population, nobody ever claimed all of those people are geniuses. However it is factual that atheists on average score higher on IQ tests.

@ThatRubikguy No, moral absolutes are not a human creation. In everyone, is that little voice that tells us when we do something wrong. We did not put it there!! The creator put it there. Now religion is man made and full of hypocrites. I doubt that GOD is anything like the way religions portray him. But also, we did not just spring into existence, the odds against it are so high as to be incalculable. Nothing ever comes to be without some force acting on it.

I'm not saying that the majority of safe sex practitioners in the US are atheist, just that atheists are statistically more likely than the religious to practice safe sex when they have sex, and are therefore less likely to have unplanned pregnancies. @Derminkator I know that I've in fact seen several popular TV shows, such as "Degrassi Junior High" and "Seventh Heaven" as well as recent movies, such as "Saved" and "Juno" that, quite to the contrary, illustrate many of the obstacles that teen mothers face. It also seems that any time there is an uptick in the number of teen pregnancies, there is a 20/20 episode or news special that tends to report on it, and they hardly seem to be putting it in a positive light.

There are entire indigenous tribes that are atheist. If you are suggesting that atheism is somehow the epitome of Westernization, you would be wrong. Furthermore, the same can be said about the religious. I shudder to think what America would have been like as an African American had there been no religion. @cssftw100 People tend to refer to "Jewish" as a race instead of a religion. Bill Gates said that he is agnostic, which basically means atheist... Assuming by "the 10% of Americans" you are referring to the atheist population, nobody ever claimed all of those people are geniuses. However it is factual that atheists on average score higher on IQ tests.

@ThatRubikguy No, moral absolutes are not a human creation. In everyone, is that little voice that tells us when we do something wrong. We did not put it there!! The creator put it there. Now religion is man made and full of hypocrites. I doubt that GOD is anything like the way religions portray him. But also, we did not just spring into existence, the odds against it are so high as to be incalculable. Nothing ever comes to be without some force acting on it.

@unclefixer You need a basic lesson on nature v. nurture. Mother Theresa, if raised in the right environment, could have been a mass murderer. Your grasp of morality is entirely dependent on your upbringing, and therefore a coincidence of birth.

@unclefixer The "little voice" is influenced both by societal standards and by evolution. Both gave us our morals, we created many but not all of our current morals. Morals have changed a lot, we now believe in more tolerance and equality, especially for things like race and gender, we now believe in being kind to animals, etc. Clearly then, God did not give us absolute morality.

@McClintonforThree There was a study on that exact topic in america that did indeed claim that atheists are about as trusted as rapists (google it). Admitedly the way the study was conducted according to news outlets is pretty stupid and the article has been removed from some outlets.

Well I don't think any reasonable person wants to throw all the atheist out of america!! You have the right to believe as you please, right or wrong!! I think neither the atheist or the religious have it 100% accurate. Atheist don't want any moral absolutes, which is a disaster, and the religious want everyone to think the way they do, a source of conflict. I think when we find out the truth, we'll all be astonished!
