Yeah it does seem strange doesn't it. Actually, there is a reason, even if its a bad one. LOL
The large monitor is on an HP multimedia machine and I can watch cable TV on it, record and edit video on it much better than I can on my older machine. So I work on the older one and watch tv on the new one with the big monitor lol
Hi trongod2000...johnreagannumber1 sent me...I am Papi from GramsandPapi and I need some info if you go to our site and see our video 8mmSuper8 you may get an idea the predicament we are in....we have old movies and audio tapes that we need to transfer to digital...any help will be appreciated...Papi out...by the way like that TEAC
None taken, Your the first one to mention it and I heard it first time I played it. A couple of people where in the next room playing a video game and didn't know I was actually recording. lol
If my vids are any good it's only because I have made many and have had much practice making them...
Still, I don't like comparing my vids to anyone else's. I have made some good ones and I have made some bad ones, just like anyone else who has made many...
marquisdejolie, who has 946 videos up, once said that his first TWO HUNDRED videos were crap so he took them all down. At one point he reposted a few of them, and I thought they were pretty good!
A good point Andy but you are too modest. I do agree that with so many you will have some real clunkers but to have as many winners as you do tells me your talented. I also recognize that one mans' gem is anothers garbage. lol
I guess what i am saying is you have stuff I consider gems. And, on top of that, equipment is not what made them gems. Keep entertaining us PLEASE. Oh and have a great new year.
This Teac used to have a garrard syncrolab 90 turntable hooked up to a Kenwood amp that went into it. I still have a lot of stuff I moved from records to tape. I still have the kenwood & the turntable. It's getting hard to get parts for these beasts though. Most I have to make from scratch. like brakes for the huge motors in this teac. They are great motors but mechanical is mechanical & things do get old & wear out. Not the motors though.
Making them from scratch is quite a task but hence the love the collectible item, which, as you say, is still in use since you still have recorded items on tape that are of value to you.
I had fabricate a capstan and belts for my top loader JVC VCR from 1981. But again, the joys of having done that outweighed what seemed to me excruciating at the time.
I knew a professor that had Windows 3.1 last year and had SO many floppy disks and this immediately reminded me of him. All his accounting was done on that older IBM pc but he also had a new one.
I can't begin to tell you how much joy that TEAC Reel-to-Reel machine gave me. I've been looking on Ebay since 04 and still have not had the money to buy a mint one. I adore vintage machines and the charm that comes with them. That made my night!
I'm glad to hear from someone who knows how cool that machine is. lol I've had it since about 1976 I guess or there about. maybe even earlier. I also have a sony 8track recorder. Yes I mean the cart type lol
Ahh I must share on video my Panasonic stand alone 8-track unit. With a record button! Quite an option at the time. 1976 also. Still have blank 8-tracks. All the meters light up well and work excellently. Proud of that unit. Never been serviced.
I still don't understand very well why when using audio out, headphones, or mic I get that loud hum that was so prevalent in 70's units when they aged. Same goes for a JVC tape deck that I have on my desk in my video. Would love to know if that's serviceable.
yes the hum is VERY "serviceable". In almost all cases what your hearing is "60 cycle hum" it is related to the AC electricity in your home. Most of our electronics eat the AC and make DC out of it. They keep a little AC to do things like run motors and fans. Sometimes on the old stuff they used it for lighting. BUT the problem is that AC gets into the DC and makes us hear the 60 cycle tone. I've got less than 100 characters left to tell you how to get rid of it so this is to be continued lol
If u are familiar with how to use a multimeter this would b a lot easier but if not here is what you can try doing. First, clean all connectors. If u can't get inside a female connector then just "exercise it" by inserting & pulling out a corresponding male connector a bunch of times. Do this to all connections u use. Mic-in, speaker-outs or inter-connecting cables between various components. This will help get rid of hum. IF u still have quite a lot then u need to try adding ground wires.
Ground wires can b any metal wire. U wrap it around a screw on the computer case & all audio gear. anyplace u can attach the bare wire is ok just make sure u connect all audio gear this way. IF u have self powered speakers u must do them to. IF u can, u should try to plug all audio gear into the same outlet or 1 next to it. Putting them all into the same surge suppressor does not count! The suppressor circuits will isolate them. IT is VERY important 2 get them together if possible 2 kill hum.
You Sir have no idea what a great help this has been and how grateful I am to you for explaining this. I could have googled, but there is nothing like reading it from someone who obviously knows his stuff.
This has been a problem plaguing me for ages and I've never committed to solving it. I know my way well around a multimeter and your advice will clean up my sound once and for all!
Thats great John. I'm so glad I could be of help. Let me know if you have any success with the hum. If ground everything together and it's still there we will move on to using your multimeter to hunt down the little hummer.
Hehe, whoops that wasn't your computer desk ... and again not yours, lol. My computer desk used to be this messy a few weeks before (until my girlfriend cleant it up)
You've still a lot of floppy disks. I don't even remember where I have mine. Guess they're still in the basement after I moved to another town, hehehe.
Thank you! Your the one who put me up to this.. Remember you inspired me lol
Don't you at least feel like your a little less messy? lol OH, and I too rebuild PC's. I actually have quiet a collection. The ones in this video are just one for audio. One for multimedia (HP) and one for mostly surfing. which was the messy one and the one I'm on now. You might notice a big coffee mug on the paper "hutch" I keep it there to avoid a little spilling it on the main desk. Which I have done. UGH!!!
Wow, you do have a LOT of stuff. Course the rest of my room here is filled with books so I'm in no position to talk. I no longer replace computers; my son just rebuilds them. Now and then we replace the box, but usually only when the power supply dies. Thanks for doing this! :) Happy New Year.
I find it kind of funny u use the smaller monitor as ur main. lol
