  • He puts it simply, but this is no simple thing to achieve. Very interesting stuff.

  • @skydark Well it is. I think. You just have to connect to the work you are creating, the characters that are talking. Of course it is ALL you, nothing is created in a vaccuum. What he is also saying is that the characters have to be believable - they must be real. That is what art is all about.

  • @ilsy74 Each character is a piece of yourself. I'm a beginning writer and this is hard, pulling out the many facets of your own personality.

  • @thechaz83 There is no need to pull out these facets of your personality. Rather use them, pay attention to them and learn from them. Every character in your story should be a repressed personality within yourself. THis is normal. Hence the act of writing can be so healing for the writer. Good luck with your writing.

  • @ilsy74 even though I will trip over my own feet like many beginning and advanced writers because we're all human, I thank you very much for your well wishes sir.

  • words from the master.

  • Now, not three years from now.

  • yes its a very moot point about character development. Its ok to say anything, but it has to be believable from the mouth of that character.

  • when was this?

  • He died in 75 so it was sometime in the early 70's.
