@skydark Well it is. I think. You just have to connect to the work you are creating, the characters that are talking. Of course it is ALL you, nothing is created in a vaccuum. What he is also saying is that the characters have to be believable - they must be real. That is what art is all about.
@thechaz83 There is no need to pull out these facets of your personality. Rather use them, pay attention to them and learn from them. Every character in your story should be a repressed personality within yourself. THis is normal. Hence the act of writing can be so healing for the writer. Good luck with your writing.
@ilsy74 even though I will trip over my own feet like many beginning and advanced writers because we're all human, I thank you very much for your well wishes sir.
He puts it simply, but this is no simple thing to achieve. Very interesting stuff.

@ilsy74 Each character is a piece of yourself. I'm a beginning writer and this is hard, pulling out the many facets of your own personality.

If Serling were alive today, he could name his price, and deservedly so!
He would have been in SUCH demand as an orator, professor, and screenwriter.
Years later, he STILL inspires!

yes its a very moot point about character development. Its ok to say anything, but it has to be believable from the mouth of that character.
