  • This song always reminds me of a 10mg Valium dose

  • Beyond Words

  • @IcyScythe That is on the Collected double cd edition album!!!

  • what album is this on? I checked Collected on amazon but I didn't see it listed in the track listing.

  • this song is so beautiful and i dont even kno wtf shes saying

  • Heh, this should be in the sims :P

  • Seriously guys, the lyrics are a made up language. The meaning however sounds different to each of us! One of the reasons why it's so beautiful.

  • I don't care if she is speaking JIBBERISH I LOVE THIS SONG...its very peaceful.

  • 7 people don't appreciate music

  • Please, who is the author of the fifth photo, of a spiral staircase in black and white. It's amazing. Thank you.

  • Love the song, love Massive attack and Elizabeth. Their sound is perfect and Elizabeth brings a mystery into their music! Incredible sounds!

  • Boy brought power To b-obey Hear me call To b-obey To b-obey I seek him clothe Come shush-hush A shrewd bow to b-obey (we are but bound to b-obey) I seek him clothe (we are but bound to b-obey) Come shush-hush (we are but bound to b-obey) A shrewd bow to b-obey (we are but bound to b-obey) I seek him clothe (we are but bound to b-obey) Come shush-hush
  • the singer is Scottish. the lyrics are English. my god.

  • french?????listen to the cocteau twins.......food for the soul..

  • The single bass note that "throws" off the rest of the song is genius. The single note that turns this sad song into a happy song at 2:03

    It's all amazing!

  • @AllyySixtySix I'd go even further than that, that little note played at 1:23 is just genius, sets you off completely into another world. Imo this song can only be described as pure work of art

  • pair de choule à chaque fois

  • And all this time I thought it was French... Beautiful song...yet melancolic...beautiful..

  • @norway1945 as a french speaker it definitely SOUNDS like french. I can tell this girl speaks french. That accent is totally free, just the words are made up.

  • @IcyScythe A very interesting idea, actually... Just making up lyrics that sound like french. This group and its music is unique and does create sad, melancholic but beautiful music. Didn't know they made up french in this song though.. But I do believe you since you speak French;)

  • @IcyScythe yeah , I'm french and I don't think she sing french , or with a bad accent . But yes the accent is very soft and don't look english .

  • This sounds like the chick from Portishead, which is another group with haunting, ethereal sounds. I wish they would come out with some new stuff.

  • the lyrics in my head r : we were bound to the beat / hear me call to the beat / through the beat i seek and clothed emotions are~~ swinging bye to the beat :backround: do you love them through the beat....

  • Can anyone tell me what this kind of music is called??????

  • @ioannakyrodimou This is Trip-hop ;) (Like Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, Fever Ray, etc)

  • @ioannakyrodimou This is Trip-hop ;) (Like Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, Gorillaz, Fever Ray, etc)

  • sounds like french, but its just more elizabeth babble. she's one of the most talented female vocalists on the planet, in my opinion.

  • Cool song! But every time I hear it I keep thinking she is singing backwards. Has anyone ever tried to listen to it in reverse??

  • @cuteinquisitive1 Not exactly. She writes the lyrics backwards and then sings them the way they look.

  • @phexitol that is not correct

  • @sallysewup Actually, it is. It was in an interview.

  • God damn! it's silent spring right now! :>

  • Just a suggestion to YouTube. How about when you hit 'Read All Comments, it doesn't stop the video from playing....

Gorgeous song. If you like this, try Indigo Boy from Esthero...different but similar.

  • @Dhurtymack Good idea, but until it happens, you can try right mouse click on "see all" and "open link in new tab" or "window" and the video will keep playing in the original window.

  • @Dhurtymack Thnx

  • I made a choreography on this song. If you want to take a look, here's the link. The choreo is not completed yet. watch?v=keUG5BQxN1U

  • Great song, cool images!

  • Children curb your wicked tongues.

    Listen.

  • The description says it's a made-up language, so translating it based on sound-similarity is bound to be pointless. It's like saying "je t'aime et je t'ai acheté des fleurs" must mean "jet aim a jet, I cheat death's floors" because they sound vaguely similar.

  • thanks for the song bro! stay cool.

  • its a song. tho very intimate and provokes unique feelings, still, just a song. derived from the imagination. and my god, its a song for personal interpretation. why are you trying to decipher it???

  • Number 1 rated comment is lyrics. Number two is saying there are no lyrics.

    Wat.

  • This is one of the top best Massive Attack songs (maybe the best). It should be on iTunes!!

  • @boldstandard there's no reason why it can't be..

  • simply gorgeous

  • Just so happen to run across this song today, this one must have went by me I didnt catch it,UNTILL NOW!!.This song is slammin!!.and I must have it in my M A collection. This tune will make one drive very very fast in the car,.right,.? lol. I know you all do it too..

  • What is there to improve?

  • the "lyrics" floating around youtube are completely ridiculous, as are most attempts at "deciphering" liz's songs. i mean, "a shrewd bow to b-obey"?! you must be kidding. liz herself has said on many occasions that her lyrics are made up of random words from different languages that she stumbles upon in dictionaries and happens to like merely for the way they sound. it's about the soft sh's complemented by the electric s's, the bouncing and popping of b's and p's, and all the other nuances...

  • love M.A.'s ALL SONGS

  • is it me or 3:09 are not enough for this song ??? They should add a repeat function in this script ... meh

  • unbelievebly beutifull and honting what a combination of beat , cords and velvet voice!!! thank you

  • Fucking incredible.

  • I want... where can I download? Doesn't matter if I gotta pay....

  • What's the b-obey? anyone knows? :)

  • @cypryjan So, what is she singing?

  • four people are ugly and have spastic wrists.

  • Great stuff :)

  • I never realized this was LIZ! It's no wonder, that I've always been drawn to this track so much.

  • Lovely. This is a song that you just close your eyes to and imagine yourself falling from the sky

  • Excelente, a voz da Elizabeth é viajante.... Pena não ter algum vídeo ao vivo desta música...

  • Excelente, a voz da Elizabeth é viajante.... Pena não ter algum video ao vivo....

  • @cypryjan Amen! :) Warm regards back..

  • @cypryjan ta "popularna"? oj tak..

  • that is a perfect song!!!!

    true trip-hop music!!!

  • Podoba mi się :))

  • Thanks for downloading this beautiful song..<3

  • it is not a made up language. she pronounces the words, differently. she is singing in english - may remove or add syllables in words.

  • Suuperplusgood!!!

  • stunning,,,

  • you just wanna lick her face or something damn

  • Sublime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wait this is just jibberish? hah! she could sing to me all day jibberish. i love it.

  • out of this world...

  • so gentle like lover's touch....

  • Beautifull !!!

  • love massive attack and this song is soooo beautiful!

  • if I had to choose "the best female voice ever", that'd be Elizabeth Frazer's. Without the shadow of a doubt.

  • Yummy !

Did MA find a secret list of,stunning, vocalists hidden by the Knights Templar in 1133 ?

  • i love M A

  • out of this world.

  • Perfect... I love this song.

  • I need this song in my life...

  • I need your help...I want to frame the picture that appears between 1:00 and 1:09 in this video...any assistance would be appreciated.

  • why dont you do a print screen, its on your keyboard, and then do paste in photoshop or other program

  • @andreiamar0 I would but the resoution is too low.

  • absolutely breathtaking :)

  • Give me a credit next time for the description you stole from my site

  • MrKatangaJoe pls remove your offensive syrup...

and dont ever spell Baby as "Babay" ever again...

    Thx !

  • Anita.....the flat .!!!...remember....the earth moved that night....x Babay I will allways think of you...x

  • I adore this song. Just feel the melody and that angelic voice of hers and you won't even care about the actual lyrics.

  • Massive attack is like good sex-it leaves you satisfied and wanting more.

  • I have yet to find a better female vocal than Liz's.

  • no point searching. There isn't a vocalist breathing who can hold a candle to the divine one.

  • @stumps03 your absolutely correct. not a single person alive can sing like she can. amazing amazing amazing.

  • @Glomerol Lisa Gerrard....both former 4AD....but much like Elizabeth Lisa gerrard is a force to be reckoned with.

  • beautiful

  • Where can I buy this song? I looked in iTunes, but no dice. I want it!

  • @zbxzbxzbx

Hey man, you know she speaks indecipherable lyrics right? it's a made up language, basically gibberish, it's an Irish form of singing..

  • @zbxzbxzbx its a made up laguage. haha?

  • @zbxzbxzbx Google is a search engine and not necessarily a reputable source of information. These lyrics show up everywhere, but until they are referenced to some decent source that I can believe, then I'll continue to assume they are just BS.

  • @zbxzbxzbx you were actually stupid enough to try to "convert" what she's singing into "english"? i mean... i didn't knew that the language is made up, but you can hear pretty clearly that it's not english, therefore, "converting" the sounds to it results in, well, nonsense. again, point where i thought one would understand that there's no point in doing that, and none at all to post it into comments.

(but don't worry, 29 people r as stupid as you (according to the "like" count on your comment)

  • @MidnightSt If you look elsewhere online, that's actually what the lyrics "say." :/

  • Comment removed

  • @zbxzbxzbx Geez how baked were you when you figured THAT out

  • @zbxzbxzbx To transcribe bullshit like this is to totally miss the point.

  • @zbxzbxzbx where did you find these lyrics?

  • @zbxzbxzbx wow :)

  • wow I thought she was speaking french until I read the comments here.

  • well good song!

  • agree

  • Her surname is Fraser, not Frasier.

  • "Elizabeth Fraser's vocals in Silent Spring are deliberately indecipherable and are of a made-up language, much like some of her work in her previous band the Cocteau Twins."

  • Incorrect. The lyrics are not made up. You just have to listen carefully. It is the way she holds the notes. Trust me! All the old timers like me know. Simply enjoy the sound and don't always try to figure out the lyrics. YOU'LL GO MAD!!!!

  • I figured out the lyrics, you're right, you just have to listen carefully

  • some of the lyrics might be gaelic? gailic? i no that enya and such do stuff like that and i think fraser is scottish so maybe she knows gaelic.

  • Liz Fraser Best Singer ever...

  • Wow! Her voice is superbly disciplined.

  • lol

  • You'll need to have a tiny penis and a microscope for that, mate ;-d

  • comparing the HQ and on HQ versions of this song, I'ecome to one conclusion.

NOt everything i better in HQ. the flatter bass an the reble being slightly "melted together" actually lends itself well to this song.

Compare and see what you think.

  • @ Kandyman: I actually never use the HQ version when listening to songs on YouTube. I find that while things sound clearer, they also can sound a lot more unbalanced by way of volume. One of my friends uploaded a slideshow of pictures with a song in the background, and when you listen to it in HQ, it just doesn't sound right, and some volumes are louder/softer than they should be otherwise.

  • You are not supposed to understand Elizabeth's lyrics. Instead try to feel the words. Her singing is unique like that. The meaning, if there is one, the verbal meaning, is obscure, and also unimportant.

  • @srpntnova yeah, now I get, that sometimes google is too much :-D stupid me ... but song is awesome

  • @srpntnova I think her words are in Gaelic.... spelling?

  • @srpntnova yes man , i hate when the people try to find a meaning in the songs , music is about feel it

  • i love this song, but don't understand a word of it. can anyone translate?

  • even though some people claim the lyrics are just gibberish you might want to google "massive attack silent spring lyrics".

  • Many lyrics you will come across are absolute rubbish. This is especially true when it comes to Liz Fraser's work. Bear this in mind.

  • I love this song!!! So dramatic and make me cry.

  • When I listening this song, I realy don`t care about song`s theme. It`s just genius at all.

Massive Attack changes my brain`s colour about 7 years ago.

  • This song reminds me of when it's raining, but the sun is out.

  • Wow... that comment lit up my brain with memories of days like that lol. Weird.

  • impossible to find a download..

    its not even on itunes..

  • Its on Limewire.

  • It's on Collected (album). Should be pretty easy to find if you look for the album rather than the song specifically.

  • its not on the album

  • It's only on the dual disc edition.

  • well its not on itunes :(

  • awesome song!..... massive attack blows my mind in many diferent levels!...... so fucking awesome.....

  • 2.19 - stairs in the louvre?

  • This is one of her few songs in english. Yes it is english, not her Gibberish that she sometimes sings in, only her english in this stretched out and made original. Look through the comments you will find the lyrics. This whole song is haunting and beautiful. She is purely one of the few artists left nowadays.

  • i heard an interview with her on national poetry day in england in which she said that she looks at foreign language dictionaries to compose her lyrics, in another interview i heard, she said that anyone who claims to be able to translate her lyrics is "fibbing." she said she remembers the lyrics from the melody.

  • It's called "Glossolalia" which is made up words, sounds French, i can't imagine how she can remember those words for each performance, she is a singing genious. Even when she does sing in English she extends the words every which way & they still are hard to understand.

  • An eerie magnificent howl...!

  • can anyone find the piano chords to this song?? i want to translate it to acoustic guitar but i cant figure it out...

  • is this the same singer as in "teardrop?" because that also has lyrics that are... good, but hard to understand

  • nevermind, yes it is :p

  • Boy brought power To b-obey Hear me call To b-obey To b-obey I seek him clothe Come shush-hush A shrewd bow to b-obey (we are but bound to b-obey) I seek him clothe (we are but bound to b-obey) Come shush-hush (we are but bound to b-obey) A shrewd bow to b-obey (we are but bound to b-obey) I seek him clothe (we are but bound to b-obey) Come shush-hush
  • arbeitskraft: and this makes sense to you?

  • Elizabeth Frasier is by far a woman!

  • this is amazing...i feel like i am flying when i listen this song...

  • i agree! do u know what language its in?

  • its english....i know that it sound very strange, but its english....somewhere was lyrics..=)liz has a strange type of singing sometimes, that you cant understand a word, like here=)

  • It's not in english. It's not in anything. The "language" was made up for the song.

  • well...maybe, but here on youtube you can find this song with words...i am not english so i cant tell that it is really the right words...=)

  • it's not in any language, this singer often sings gibberish.

  • No, you're wrong

  • What's the girls name singing?

  • Elizabeth Frasier

  • It is in english, the words just don't make any sense in this context. Great song nonetheless!

  • incredible song.. love liz

  • Lyrics: Boy brought power To b-obey Hear me call To b-obey To b-obey I seek him clothe Come shush-hush A shrewd bow to b-obey (we are but bound to b-obey) I seek him clothe (we are but bound to b-obey) Come shush-hush (we are but bound to b-obey) A shrewd bow to b-obey (we are but bound to b-obey) I seek him clothe (we are but bound to b-obey) Come shush-hush
  • A song full of emotions.

She is singing in English right?

  • Yes i think this is English. Indecipherable lyrics this is her sign. But if you look closer you must admit this - you don't understand the word but you know about what she's singing. Close your eyes and fly:)

  • @cypryjan it sounds much more like french to me. but that's just me. :)

  • no, she isn't singing in any known language. kind of "voice arts".
