I love jealous, protective John! This was JER at his best. Foreshadowing to set up his next storyline, clearly defined motivations based on character history. At the time I hated that Marlena trusted Stefano but looking back it was a good plot device to continue John & Stefano's rivalry for Marlena.

Yes, as stupid as some of Reilly's stuff was, looking back from the vantage point of the present writing, it was brilliant, consistent, and above all watchable.
