this is might be the most retarded question you can ask but doyou need starcraft 1 to play it or do you need like starcraft2 wings of liberty and starcraft2 heart of the swarm to play it do you need all or just one??
Starcraft 2, wings of liberty, is completely independent of Starcraft 1. The only game that needs starcraft 1 is the expansion for SC1; aka, broodwars.(very old).
Upcoming expansions for for SC2 will probably require SC2: WIngs of Liberty, but will be sold for about $30, instead of $60.
Your computer sucks, but there is a good chance that if you buy this following item and install it, you will be able to play SC2 just fine. It costs just $69 and includes free shipping:
SAPPHIRE 100287VGAL Radeon HD 5670 @ Newegg.com
There is a 'small' chance that it may not work because... 1.It may not fit. 2.Your Power Supply may stop working (forever) or become unstable. 3.Your motherboard may not be able to power the card and cause crashes.
@TheIcefang No, you will need a new graphics card at the very least and your CPU is barely acceptable.
I assume you have some sort of budget eMachines system. It probably has 3GB of DDR2 RAM, a 250-Watt (really 200W) power supply and a cheap motherboard.
You can either buy a new computer(!) or you can buy a new video card. If you don't want to make your power supply explode, the fastest video card you can use is an AMD 6670, but even that might kill your PSU if your PSU is too crappy.
@antiunis it should be able to run it just fine on high graphics on a standard 24" display. Like with any computer though, put too many units on the screen and it will start to lag.
@antiunis the GTS 450 is slower than the GTX 550, but for starcraft 2 it shouldn't make much difference. If you have any problems, just turn down the resolution a bit, but you should probably be able to get ~40fps @1080p on high typically.
The same story goes for the CPU; going from dual to quad core offers, lets assume, a 10% boost in SC2. The dual-core has a higher clockspeed tho, so it also offers a bit of a boost. Overall, I'd go with the 2310, but it isn't much faster, if at all.
@antiunis You can buy 8GB of RAM for like $40 these days. 6GB means it likely has 2x2gb+2x1gb; if you upgraded the 6gb of ram ever, you would have to throw out the 2x1gb sticks to make room for the new sticks.
you can't really make a wrong choice, but my personal preference would be the 550 GTX and the i5, unless the other option is significantly cheaper.
@studio3dtv thats it, ive probobly made my mind up. ill probobly get the i5, even though it has the GTS 450, ive read thats its still a very good VC. The i3 cost 1.4LT ( 2.4LT = 1$ ) and the i5 is 1.5k LT, and the RAM is really cheap here :) you can always buy a new VC if something wrond and changing the whole proccesor ir more difficult rite ? :) i will just need some RAM installing lessons :D
@guyinseattle1 yes, I believe it should be smooth on medium graphics at a moderate resolution. I cannot promise this though, since I do not have an radeon 6450 to test, but at the very least it should be playable in all but extreme cases.
@steelslither it depends on what configuration of hp 610 you have. If yours has an ATI Radeon HD 4270 or an Intel GMA HD graphics chip, then I would say no. Some people might still find the performance acceptable however, despite some choppiness at times. If you got the upgraded graphics card option though, you should be able to play the game.
I have an Intel I5 processor, 2.66ghz(can increase to 3.33ghz if needed), 6GB of ram, but sadly only an Intel(r) HD graphics card. Could i still run medium settings with my graphics card? Sadly i cannot replacemy card as it is built in to my laptop.
Im very very bad with computers but im looking to buy a alienware and idk wich one to buy will alienware aurora be able to play on medium to high settings. Somone please reply i really need to know,.
hey man, i have a laptop with a good intel processor, 3 gigs of RAM, but the only thing is, i have a fking intel graphics card... Can an intel graph card run sc2 at all? If not, then what am I supposed to do?
I have a AMD Turion(tm) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-80 2.9 GHz, 4G RAM, and a ATI Radeon 3100. I met the minimum requirements for sc2. I just want to know if I can at least run sc2 at medium settings.
hey with christmas and my birthday coming up i will have a pretty decent amount of cash so im either gonna get a new 360 slim or a computer can anybody tell me a computer that would already have good enough specs for this game?
because my birthday is coming soon and i really want to buy this game. but i have no idea if my computer can handle/play this game smoothly. and also, if i can play the game, what settings can i p
@MrCreamyHoney21 i recommend you buy a new gfx if you want to play it on very high, but you will do well on high! (btw, for the gfx, recomend a HD5750
hey i have a intel pentium 4 cpu 3.00ghz (2CPUs), 3 gigs of Ram and my graphics card is a GeForce GTX 460 and i just want to no if i could play stacraft 2 on low settings smoothly?
@s0pinoii You should be able to play the game pretty well, even on higher settings -- consider getting a new processor though, since P4's are pretty old school these days. It will limit the performance you can get out of your GTX 460. A nice new Core i5 or core i7 CPU will be a good choice.
@cancan460 Yes. You should be able to play on Max graphics, at 1080p, and only see lag when there are like 500+ units on the screen at once. I've tried it on a core i7-860 system, with 4gb ram and a GTX 460 1GB non-SE, and had great results.
@s0pinoii hey im sorry again but i have actually no clue about processors haha im good with RAM and graphics cards but i have no knowledge of processors so i just have a question it is possible to replace my intel pentium 4 with an i5? like the pins r the same etc? if not is there any better processor that u deffinetly know i could upgrade to? thanks
@s0pinoii Sorry, I wish it was that easy. Going from Pentium 4 to pretty much anything else will require a new motherboard and a new CPU-- and if you are going to something like a Core i5, you will also need new RAM.
As for CPU recommendations, I wouldn't recommend you buying anything cheap, since that blunts the point of upgrading in the first place.
I'm going to send you a personal message with more info, since i'm running out of room here....
@studio3dtv can you please help me i have a windows vista laptop and when i put this disk in it says below minimum specifications so please tell me what i can do to play it because i was able to play starcraft 1 no problem and it really sucks that i cant play this amazing game please anything you know that i can get to help me out to play
@s0pinoii with those specs you can probably run on ultra graphics smoothly because i have a hp laptop that has 2.66 ghz and a GeForcex 460 and 4GB of Ram and it can handle ultra graphics without being choppy.
i have a AMD athlon 64 2x dual core, my video card is Nvidia GeForce 9400GT 1gig, and 4 gig RAM. but when i put it to the highest setting like ULTRA setting the game crashes and my PC just hang or restart by itself. can u help me? ? ?
@pixelpages Gah, Well, your computer is pretty much the same as my Lenovo T400 notebook. I was able to play SC2 on LOW quality settings and LOW resolution at a playable frame rate. I did a youtube video showing the results
You do have a crappy video card, like my ATI 3470 in terms of performance, but it is enough. I wouldn't suggest an 8 player multiplayer game, but should be fine for the single player (on low) and many of the multiplayer games
@pixelpages Ive never tried doing a 3v3 yet with my notebook - I'm going to say you probably can, but I don't know for sure. I can check when I have time. A lot depends too on how many units are built,etc.etc.. I was getting like 40fps in a 2v1 with a similar computer, but things could vary a lot for you.
The game does lag even on my faster desktop when hundreds of units start moving all at once. There are certain multiplayer games, like Nexus Wars or Marine Arena, where low fps is common.
@pixelpages I can't answer that for you, especially since your computer is far below what I would say is recommended. That said, if I were in your shoes, I'd probably still buy the game.
You can always get a Guest Pass from a friend who already has the game (since the game comes with two) and try it out. I'm pretty sure it will run smoothly, with all but the heavier battles, but you will need to run it on lowest graphics regardless.
@studio3dtv haha thanks for the help man much appreciated... seems like you should take up a job as tech support with all the help people are asking you for :P
@daveshow58 :) you're welcome. I already have a part time job as tech support for a company and I also do freelance writing for some pretty big computer hardware websites.
@dragonx748 minimum requirements states a 6600GT. I would say you would get no better than low graphics quality and a low resolution. This assumes fairly decent frame rates on a fairly old computer. A 4.0GHz quad core system with the same 6600GT might be able to knock up the resolution a bit, but medium graphics would be pushing it.
anyone know why It lags retardedly once i put anything past the lowest setting and once I play 3v3 and 4v4???? what should I buy to make it run better???
@daveshow58 You got a pretty good computer, but it lacks a dedicated graphics card. It lags mainly because the integrated GPU cannot keep up with all the action going on in games that have a lot of units and buildings.
How much money do you got? I would recommend either the ATI 5770 or Geforce GTX 460, if you can afford either or those. The ATI 5770 is the better value, but the GTX 460 is a good Nvidia-based alternative.
If you are on a budget, the $50 ATI 4650 128-bit card is an OK choice.
@studio3dtv Personally the brand doesn't matter too much for me. I care more about performance. Would you recommend one over the other?? Also, I contacted blizzard support and found out the minimum req. is a 2.6 GHz processor. Mine is 2.2 but it runs fine until there is alot going on at once. Should I get my graphics card updated before the CPU?
@daveshow58 The minimum requirement is a SIngle Core Pentium 4 -- running at 2.6Ghz. Your computer is a quad core and it is much more efficient in performance per GHz than a Pentium 4. What that means is, your computer is actually equal to something like a 5Ghz Pentium 4.
While your processor will still max out eventually in very big battles, your graphics card will easily max out first, so updating your graphics is MUCH more important.
I dont think you need to upgrade your CPU anytime soon.
@daveshow58 Both ATI and Nvidia are great brands. I buy each though for different reasons. Nvidia has 3D Vision and CUDA support, while ATI has Eyefiniti and Avivo support. The GTX 460 is more powerful than the ATI 5770, but it's also more expensive. Come to think about it, the GTX 460 has roughly the same price and performance as the ATI 5830, so that is a decent option too. Nvidia really has no direct competitor for the 5770, which is just a great card for the value minded gamer.
@KingofFire I need to know the specific model of Video card you wish to buy -- just because a video card has 1GB of memory does not mean it is fast, unfortunately.
I would say something like an ATI 5770 or faster would handle SC2 on max quality and resolution on your computer, at ideal frame rates.
@KingofFire haha, ya, I would recommend the 5770 over the 5670 in this case. From reviews that I've seen, the 5770 is about 70% faster in Starcraft 2 at only 70% more cost. The added expense is worth it though, since the 5770 at least does what you want, and that is priceless.
it can even handle Battlefield: Bad Company 2 fairly well. bonus!
@KingofFire I'd probably say go for any 1GB card that is cheap. =D I bought a basic sapphire 5770 though and it worked very well-- its dirt cheap too these days and has a 5/5 star rating from newegg-- so it seems to me like a safe yet simple bet.
I also had bought a Gigabyte GTX 460 recently and its a great card too, so i suspect their ATI cards would be good too.
I would say read reviews online though and make ur call that way, cause my advice in limited in this regard.
@marfg12345 The video card you got is too crappy, sorry. It's about half the speed of what I would call acceptable- it wouldn't even work well on low graphics. While you would probably would be able to load up the game and do some very basic missions, any real battle would cause the frame rates to drop to unplayable levels.
everything else about your computer seems fine -- it just needs a better graphics card.
@renderguy Thanks, guy! I've tried to respond to everyone, or at least to questions that didn't make me want to throw myself out of window- there were a few. I don't know how much longer I can keep this all up though, its wearing. Anyways - cheers!
@blomeyXharter check the official SC2 forum for help - there could be lots of reasons, including old video card drivers. Your video card really sucks though, so even if you get it working it is not going to be very smooth gameplay. sorry.
Hello, Im using windows XP. I already play on all low setting (quality etc), and still during gameplay the the game lag and freeze. Sometimes it takes really long time to load mission and stuff. I tried to update dfriver and software.
But I have 1 GB Ram. Maybe thats the reason how the game lag, freeze, are slow etc? Do you think the game will run better if I upgrade my memory to 2Gb or 4?
@CoolCam55 The Intel GMA is a very slow graphics chip -- even on low quality settings, SC2 will be choppy. You will want to get a better graphics card if you want to play SC2 properly.
i have a windows xp Home Edition version 2002 with 2.42 Ghz, 512 MB of ram and SC2 doesn't work, w3 works on this computer, and even combat arms (bad game but i use it as an example for graphics). What drivers can i download for this computer?
@linkinmetalica You need to tell me what video card you have for me to know if your computer can RUN SC2. As it stands, you are already below the minimum system requirements because you do not have enough RAM. The game requires at least 1GB. Updating your drivers probably will not make things run any better.
@bonez4567 THere is a very good chance your computer can run SC2, but I need to know what your video card is first. The game is very dependent on a good video card. From what I can see however, your system so far easily meets the requirements.
@MollasesBuns People with slower systems have been able to get it to work smoothly, so I believe it should work for you too - on low graphics mainly. If you find it too slow, just spend a bit on a better graphics card.
I bought the game and it runs smoothly. I can sometimes run it on medium. But when messing around in skirmish i used a cheat code and it disabled achievements. Now I don't know how to reset the achievements, just how to start a new campaign. Do you know what to do?
@kcollins113 I have an AMD sempron thats very similar to that one (sempron 3000+ overclocked to 2.1GHz, 1GB of RAM). I was able to play on low/medium graphics settings on a low resolution on basic missions acceptably using an Nvidia 8600GT (check my other videos to see what i mean)
If you are looking for a new card that can match or beat the 8600GT, on a TIGHT budget, the ATi 4650 or Nvidia GT220 are decent options. (~$60)
You also need Windows XP installed, not vista or win7, due to ur RAM
@ivanbokskie Upgrade your video card and you will be set.
The 8400GS is below the minimum system requirements, and as I have said to others with the same video card, you won't get great frame rates, but SC2 *MIGHT* barely be playable on lowest graphics settings, but I'm not gonna promise anything. Overclocking the GPU is risky, but doing so could help to smooth things out.
Run 3DMark06 if you want as a test - a score of less than 1500 is horrible. Try to get at least 2000, 20000 ideally. =)
@ivanbokskie not really - it is below the minimum system requirements. I would guess that you would get between 15 and 25 fps on lowest everything, depending on the rest of your system's configuration. So while it might work, it is below what is generally considered acceptable performance.
@DaLinkMaster From the specs listed online, it says the hp g60-635dx notebook has a 2.1GHz Intel dual-core CPU and a integrated Intel GMA 4500M graphics solution. Unfortunately, it is just barely NOT fast enough to play SC2 properly, even on lowest graphics.
In my newest Youtube video, near the end, I show roughly the performance you should expect if you tried. 10 frames per second is not really playable.
I have a mac os x with snow leopard update. I know SC2 will work, but will it run well? I used to play C&C3 and Warcraft3 and they worked fine. But I'm wondering about SC2 and I really want to get it.
@smackingjose15 C&C3 and WC3 both have much lower system requirements than SC2 does, so I can't say if you will be able to play SC2 knowing just that. I need to know the model # or detailed system specifications to help you out..
@studio3dtv It's a 2007 mac os x model with the latest snow leopard. I dont know much about the exact specifications though. Ive looked it up before and it never tells me what sort of graphic card it has but it's been good enough to play a quite a few modern 3d games and to install the update.
@smackingjose15 Well, on lowest graphics, at a low resolution, I GUESS you might potentially get a playable ~35fps -- BUT! big but....
Now, I don't know how much RAM you have, nor what CPU you have, and I also don't know yet the performance difference between SC2 on the Mac vs PC. So, I could be way off the mark with my guess and there really is no room for error- any slower and it won't be playable, so it's not suggested.
So, ask a friend for a guest account and try it out before you buy.
@smackingjose15 What graphics card? You are using a laptop, so IF it uses an Intel integrated graphics chip, like many laptops do, then it is probably going to be too slow. By too slow, I'm thinking 5 to 15 fps on lowest graphics settings.
If you can find out what graphics chip your laptop is really using though, I can give you a proper answer, instead of a guess. Your CPU and RAM look good enough to run SC2, but you need a moderately good video card also.
@smackingjose15 ah, okay, sorry, I get so many comments I lose track of some of the comments already made. You have an iMac then, right? Makes sense now.
Um, I still stick by my ~35fps on low graphics/resolution, but it might even be as low as 20fps if the SC2 code is not well optimized for the Mac. I can't be sure, sorry. If you buy the game, you do take the risk that it will be too slow for your liking, but I think it will be playable.
Hey there i really need your help im willing to buy starcraft 2 but is this PC good enough # : 4 x 2.8 Ghz ( AMD processor ) # Ram: 4GB ( can be expanded to 8 gb ) # Motherbord: Athlon II X4 630 # Harddisk: 500 GB SATA # Graphic card : ATI Radeon HD3000 # Audio: Realtek # DVD-ROM/RW plz respond it helps alot thank you :D
@ChickenBeerFilms Everything looks great, except you didnt tell me what video card you have. THe ATI Radeon HD3000 is a family of cards, not a specific card.
ie: 3470? 3850? 3100? The ATI 3470 is able to play on low graphics, for example. Something like a 3100 would not be able to play SC2, on the other hand.
@ChickenBeerFilms It totally is. I would trade my ATI 5770 for one anyday. While ATI is great for straight up price/performance value, NVidia offers so much more in other features, like 3DVision, CUDA, and SLI flexibility. The GTX 460 wasn't out when I bought my 5770 though.
@TheMastermind39 Hi there. I gotta know a bit more about your computer to give you an accurate answer. 1.9GHz Pentium 4? Or 1.9GHz Quad Core? Chances are if it is a modern CPU it will be able to handle SC2, but I cant say for sure.
My GUESS is that you will be getting between 30 and 40 fps most of the time, assuming you do have a decent enough video card. Probably only playable on low graphics, but medium or better if your graphics card is actually good.
@TheMastermind39 A 1.9GHz Pentium 4 computer is well below the minimum requirements. The minimum requirements are a 2.6GHz Pentium 4 computer. Since I do not know what video card you are using or any of the other components of your computer, I will just assume that its an old computer in general. That said, it probably cannot run SC2 properly.
Is it a laptop by chance? What model/make? Cheers.
@studio3dtv Hey m8,thx for the advice..i bought a new processor and a new graphics card NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX , Intel Core 2 Duo E6600. will i be able to run it now atleast on medium? thx for the previous answers
@TheMastermind39 It looks like a great system for SC2. You should be able to do medium or better just fine, assuming everything else about the system is also in order. cheers m8!
4GB. My graphics card is high, cant remember which one it is but I bought one of the best at Best Buy. My subscore for my computer overall is 5.1, is that good for the game?? I can tell you my last graphics card was 8600GTS but I got a new one is way stronger. What can you tell me?
@quantumshift5 I'm not sure how much "way faster" is, but that means you will easily be able to run on medium graphics or better - probably much better. There really isn't much difference in appearance between medium and ultra high graphics anyways, at least not to me, so really it doesn't matter -- you can run the game fine.
I can't do much with a 5.1, since you never told me what version of windows you were using.
@quantumshift5 A 5.1 in Windows XP does not mean much , unfortunately. If its faster than a 8600GTS though, you should be able to do at least medium graphics, which is all that matters.

hey i have a intel pentium 4 cpu 3.00ghz (2CPUs), 3 gigs of Ram and my graphics card is a GeForce GTX 460 and i just want to no if i could play stacraft 2 on low settings smoothly?
s0pinoii 1 year ago
@s0pinoii You should be able to play the game pretty well, even on higher settings -- consider getting a new processor though, since P4's are pretty old school these days. It will limit the performance you can get out of your GTX 460. A nice new Core i5 or core i7 CPU will be a good choice.

@studio3dtv a core i5 a gtx460 and 4 gigs ram. Could i play it high graphics?
cancan460 9 months ago
@cancan460 Yes. You should be able to play on Max graphics, at 1080p, and only see lag when there are like 500+ units on the screen at once. I've tried it on a core i7-860 system, with 4gb ram and a GTX 460 1GB non-SE, and had great results.

@s0pinoii hey im sorry again but i have actually no clue about processors haha im good with RAM and graphics cards but i have no knowledge of processors so i just have a question it is possible to replace my intel pentium 4 with an i5? like the pins r the same etc? if not is there any better processor that u deffinetly know i could upgrade to? thanks
s0pinoii 1 year ago
@s0pinoii Sorry, I wish it was that easy. Going from Pentium 4 to pretty much anything else will require a new motherboard and a new CPU-- and if you are going to something like a Core i5, you will also need new RAM.
As for CPU recommendations, I wouldn't recommend you buying anything cheap, since that blunts the point of upgrading in the first place.
I'm going to send you a personal message with more info, since i'm running out of room here....

TisyuPepper 1 year ago
@TisyuPepper The 9400GT is too slow for SC2 on Ultra high graphics. It barely meets the minimum requirements even. (a 7600GT is faster)
I have no idea why the game crashes though -- I could guess, but I'm not sure. Too slow? Overheating? Bad drivers?
My best guess is that the card is over heating -- does it use a passive heat sink? (Ie: no fans?)
Sorry, I couldnt help more -- but regardless, you cant play well on ultra settings anyways.

pixelpages 1 year ago
@pixelpages Gah, Well, your computer is pretty much the same as my Lenovo T400 notebook. I was able to play SC2 on LOW quality settings and LOW resolution at a playable frame rate. I did a youtube video showing the results
You do have a crappy video card, like my ATI 3470 in terms of performance, but it is enough. I wouldn't suggest an 8 player multiplayer game, but should be fine for the single player (on low) and many of the multiplayer games
ITS NOT RECOMMENDED, but it should work, i think
studio3dtv 1 year ago
@studio3dtv
So i am able to play 1v1 , 2v2 , 3v3 online?
If so
Thank you so much
pixelpages 1 year ago
@pixelpages Ive never tried doing a 3v3 yet with my notebook - I'm going to say you probably can, but I don't know for sure. I can check when I have time. A lot depends too on how many units are built,etc.etc.. I was getting like 40fps in a 2v1 with a similar computer, but things could vary a lot for you.
The game does lag even on my faster desktop when hundreds of units start moving all at once. There are certain multiplayer games, like Nexus Wars or Marine Arena, where low fps is common.
studio3dtv 1 year ago
@studio3dtv
Thanks for the quick reply.
I will probably play 1v1 or 2v2 with a couple of friends
as such do you think i shuld buy the game?
pixelpages 1 year ago
@pixelpages I can't answer that for you, especially since your computer is far below what I would say is recommended. That said, if I were in your shoes, I'd probably still buy the game.
You can always get a Guest Pass from a friend who already has the game (since the game comes with two) and try it out. I'm pretty sure it will run smoothly, with all but the heavier battles, but you will need to run it on lowest graphics regardless.
studio3dtv 1 year ago

Ok thank you very much, you have cleared up much of my doubts , i will probably try it out on a guest pass before i buy. Thank you so much =D

what are the best graphics i can get out of this game only meeting minimum requirements?
dragonx748 1 year ago
@dragonx748 minimum requirements states a 6600GT. I would say you would get no better than low graphics quality and a low resolution. This assumes fairly decent frame rates on a fairly old computer. A 4.0GHz quad core system with the same 6600GT might be able to knock up the resolution a bit, but medium graphics would be pushing it.
studio3dtv 1 year ago
@studio3dtv my comp is: HPC
AMD Phenom(TM) 9550 Quad-Core processor 2.20 GHZ
5.00 GB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce 9300 GE
anyone know why It lags retardedly once i put anything past the lowest setting and once I play 3v3 and 4v4???? what should I buy to make it run better???
daveshow58 1 year ago
@daveshow58 You got a pretty good computer, but it lacks a dedicated graphics card. It lags mainly because the integrated GPU cannot keep up with all the action going on in games that have a lot of units and buildings.
How much money do you got? I would recommend either the ATI 5770 or Geforce GTX 460, if you can afford either or those. The ATI 5770 is the better value, but the GTX 460 is a good Nvidia-based alternative.
If you are on a budget, the $50 ATI 4650 128-bit card is an OK choice.
studio3dtv 1 year ago
@studio3dtv Personally the brand doesn't matter too much for me. I care more about performance. Would you recommend one over the other?? Also, I contacted blizzard support and found out the minimum req. is a 2.6 GHz processor. Mine is 2.2 but it runs fine until there is alot going on at once. Should I get my graphics card updated before the CPU?
daveshow58 1 year ago
@daveshow58 The minimum requirement is a SIngle Core Pentium 4 -- running at 2.6Ghz. Your computer is a quad core and it is much more efficient in performance per GHz than a Pentium 4. What that means is, your computer is actually equal to something like a 5Ghz Pentium 4.
While your processor will still max out eventually in very big battles, your graphics card will easily max out first, so updating your graphics is MUCH more important.
I dont think you need to upgrade your CPU anytime soon.
studio3dtv 1 year ago
@daveshow58 Both ATI and Nvidia are great brands. I buy each though for different reasons. Nvidia has 3D Vision and CUDA support, while ATI has Eyefiniti and Avivo support. The GTX 460 is more powerful than the ATI 5770, but it's also more expensive. Come to think about it, the GTX 460 has roughly the same price and performance as the ATI 5830, so that is a decent option too. Nvidia really has no direct competitor for the 5770, which is just a great card for the value minded gamer.
cheers

KingofFire 1 year ago
@KingofFire I need to know the specific model of Video card you wish to buy -- just because a video card has 1GB of memory does not mean it is fast, unfortunately.
I would say something like an ATI 5770 or faster would handle SC2 on max quality and resolution on your computer, at ideal frame rates.

@KingofFire haha, ya, I would recommend the 5770 over the 5670 in this case. From reviews that I've seen, the 5770 is about 70% faster in Starcraft 2 at only 70% more cost. The added expense is worth it though, since the 5770 at least does what you want, and that is priceless.
it can even handle Battlefield: Bad Company 2 fairly well. bonus!

for the 5770, what brand would you recommend?
KingofFire 1 year ago
@KingofFire I'd probably say go for any 1GB card that is cheap. =D I bought a basic sapphire 5770 though and it worked very well-- its dirt cheap too these days and has a 5/5 star rating from newegg-- so it seems to me like a safe yet simple bet.
I also had bought a Gigabyte GTX 460 recently and its a great card too, so i suspect their ATI cards would be good too.
I would say read reviews online though and make ur call that way, cause my advice in limited in this regard.

marfg12345 1 year ago
@marfg12345 The video card you got is too crappy, sorry. It's about half the speed of what I would call acceptable- it wouldn't even work well on low graphics. While you would probably would be able to load up the game and do some very basic missions, any real battle would cause the frame rates to drop to unplayable levels.
everything else about your computer seems fine -- it just needs a better graphics card.

linkinmetalica 1 year ago
@linkinmetalica You need to tell me what video card you have for me to know if your computer can RUN SC2. @bonez4567 THere is a very good chance your computer can run SC2, but I need to know what your video card is first. The game is very dependent on a good video card. From what I can see however, your system so far easily meets the requirements.
studio3dtv 1 year ago
@MollasesBuns People with slower systems have been able to get it to work smoothly, so I believe it should work for you too - on low graphics mainly. If you find it too slow, just spend a bit on a better graphics card.

studio3dtv 1 year ago
@smackingjose15 what is your processor and what would i need to run on low-medium here is my processor AMD sempron LE-1200 2.11 ghz 896 mg of RAM
kcollins113 1 year ago
@kcollins113 I have an AMD sempron thats very similar to that one (sempron 3000+ overclocked to 2.1GHz, 1GB of RAM). I was able to play on low/medium graphics settings on a low resolution on basic missions acceptably using an Nvidia 8600GT (check my other videos to see what i mean)
If you are looking for a new card that can match or beat the 8600GT, on a TIGHT budget, the ATi 4650 or Nvidia GT220 are decent options. (~$60)
You also need Windows XP installed, not vista or win7, due to ur RAM

2gb ram
windows 7 ultimate 64-bit

ivanbokskie 1 year ago
@ivanbokskie Upgrade your video card and you will be set.
The 8400GS is below the minimum system requirements, and as I have said to others with the same video card, you won't get great frame rates, but SC2 *MIGHT* barely be playable on lowest graphics settings, but I'm not gonna promise anything. Overclocking the GPU is risky, but doing so could help to smooth things out.
Run 3DMark06 if you want as a test - a score of less than 1500 is horrible. Try to get at least 2000, 20000 ideally. =)
studio3dtv 1 year ago
i have nvidia geforce 8400 gs... is it good enough?
ivanbokskie 1 year ago
@ivanbokskie not really - it is below the minimum system requirements. I would guess that you would get between 15 and 25 fps on lowest everything, depending on the rest of your system's configuration. So while it might work, it is below what is generally considered acceptable performance.

will sc2 run on my computer? i have a hp g60-635dx
DaLinkMaster 1 year ago
@DaLinkMaster From the specs listed online, it says the hp g60-635dx notebook has a 2.1GHz Intel dual-core CPU and a integrated Intel GMA 4500M graphics solution. Unfortunately, it is just barely NOT fast enough to play SC2 properly, even on lowest graphics.
In my newest Youtube video, near the end, I show roughly the performance you should expect if you tried. 10 frames per second is not really playable.
cheers

I have a mac os x with snow leopard update. I know SC2 will work, but will it run well? I used to play C&C3 and Warcraft3 and they worked fine. But I'm wondering about SC2 and I really want to get it.
smackingjose15 1 year ago
@smackingjose15 C&C3 and WC3 both have much lower system requirements than SC2 does, so I can't say if you will be able to play SC2 knowing just that. I need to know the model # or detailed system specifications to help you out..
studio3dtv 1 year ago
@studio3dtv It's a 2007 mac os x model with the latest snow leopard. I dont know much about the exact specifications though. Ive looked it up before and it never tells me what sort of graphic card it has but it's been good enough to play a quite a few modern 3d games and to install the update.

@studio3dtv Ah sorry i found. Doesnt look like it will work. I have an ATI,RadeonHD2400
smackingjose15 1 year ago
@smackingjose15 Ya, the ATI 2400 is pretty slow. sorry to hear that.
studio3dtv 1 year ago
@studio3dtv But is it gonna work or am i screwed here?
smackingjose15 1 year ago
@smackingjose15 Well, on lowest graphics, at a low resolution, I GUESS you might potentially get a playable ~35fps -- BUT! big but....
Now, I don't know how much RAM you have, nor what CPU you have, and I also don't know yet the performance difference between SC2 on the Mac vs PC. So, I could be way off the mark with my guess and there really is no room for error- any slower and it won't be playable, so it's not suggested.
So, ask a friend for a guest account and try it out before you buy.
studio3dtv 1 year ago
@studio3dtv Alright last question on starcraft.lol
intel core duo 2 t7300@2.02ghz
3gb of ram
1650x1050 max resolution-these are my exact specs. Ive tried downloading the trial but it says it will take over 20 hours.
smackingjose15 1 year ago
@smackingjose15 What graphics card? You are using a laptop, so IF it uses an Intel integrated graphics chip, like many laptops do, then it is probably going to be too slow. By too slow, I'm thinking 5 to 15 fps on lowest graphics settings.
If you can find out what graphics chip your laptop is really using though, I can give you a proper answer, instead of a guess. Your CPU and RAM look good enough to run SC2, but you need a moderately good video card also.
studio3dtv 1 year ago
@studio3dtv No no no no. Im using a mac os x. I already told you my graphic card. Its an ATI radeon HD 2400.
smackingjose15 1 year ago
@smackingjose15 ah, okay, sorry, I get so many comments I lose track of some of the comments already made. You have an iMac then, right? Makes sense now.
Um, I still stick by my ~35fps on low graphics/resolution, but it might even be as low as 20fps if the SC2 code is not well optimized for the Mac. I can't be sure, sorry. If you buy the game, you do take the risk that it will be too slow for your liking, but I think it will be playable.
Your below minimum requirements, so its up to u

I can't say for sure tho, sorry.

@studio3dtv 1.9ghz pentium 4

Cheers.

@studio3dtv yeah I tried it and its set on ULTRA by default. The game also suggest to set everything in ULTRA except "lightining" and "shades" .
My game lagged just once in a mission called utter darkness, when a LOT of units appeared

@TheMastermind39 It looks like a great system for SC2. You should be able to do medium or better just fine, assuming everything else about the system is also in order. cheers m8!

Umm, mine is AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.60GHz

@studio3dtv Im sorry, its Windows XP

@quantumshift5 A 5.1 in Windows XP does not mean much , unfortunately. If its faster than a 8600GTS though, you should be able to do at least medium graphics, which is all that matters.
