Why was it destroyed in '02?

Mayor Luzhkov tries to give Moscow the appearance of the pre Sovietic Period. In this sense, Hotel Rossia (like Hotel Intourist and Hotel Moskva) were destroyed because of their ugliness. My opinion is that in those places is much more interesting to build deluxe hotels. Hotel Intourist is now Hotel Ritz Carlton, for instance. Building of a new 5 star hotel in place of Hotel Rossja (only the eastern part of the building) has been stopped because of some archeological foundings.
