  • This is called a workprint. It would have cost too much to arrange all the shots in order using color film. The color prints would be done later in a lab using the numbers that run along the edges of the film. In the 1970's the style was to edit for the Actor's performance (the Godfather, Rocky), but when Lucas saw how boring it was, he told the editors to cut it to tell the story faster, so a 7 minute scene got cut down to about 4 and a half minutes, and got more aliens in less time.

  • The fellow at the bar who picks a fight with Luke sounds like Alan Ford!

  • 4:40 I actually remember a version where he actually swears at this part

  • I've never scene this cut 'til now. Wow! It's great!! What a difference without the music and post production. This is how it all started. Amazing!

  • haha it's brick top !!!

  • LOL, ROFL, LMAO, Greedo is BRITISH! This is epic

  • Gotta say this movie needed tons of post production. The voices are terrible, very bad acting, all with their British accent, and haha, they really seemed to be drunk. Damn, Lucas is so lucky this worked.

  • that was great. . hopefully they put this and all of the other deleted scenes in when they bring out the complete Blu-ray additions!

  • where did you get these scenes from?

  • @MinusIce From an old LucasArts CD-Rom called 'Behind the Magic'. It came out more than 10 years ago, hence the poor quality of the video. Hope they can do better with the Star Wars Blu Ray extras.... whenever they appear. :)

  • @yodasdad Well, Steve Sansweet (frontman of LucasFilm) said that there were going to be some real treasures on the blu-ray boxset.

  • @yodasdad oy this one looks like crap the cantina not the video it is one of the good changes george lucas made han shot fucking first godamnit

  • lmao at posh gangster greedo=D "now get up" i say old boy. get up, rotf

  • At 1:02 is that a Jawa without its hood? I noticed that thing also had glowing eyes.....

  • i think so there is a toy

  • Which toy are you referring to?

It doesn't quite look like a Jawa to me, since the eyes are sorta on the side, while the Jawas have eyes fully forward... when you see the rat guy to the side you only see one eye unlike the guy he's facing, but that could just be an oversight. Interesting if it's really a Jawa.

    Good eye, Starwarsfreak96!

  • Hey this is great... Lost footage... Thank you... Try to find more lost Star Wars footages ... :-)

  • At 2:36 is the alien Marvel Comics used as Jabba the Hutt.

  • Show's what you know.

  • It's a pity this footage wasn't better preserved. Thank you for posting this!

  • There's a reason why the color has faded.

Back then Lucas had a very limited amount of budged for the film, so he tried to cut costs on everything, including the type and quality of the celluloid reels, he basically used very cheap film reels that actually needed restoration for the 1981 re-release, only 5 years after the initial shooting.
