Yes this is cruel, but as a chef myself, I can tell you that neither I nor any chef I know would ever buy foie gras from stressed ducks. Also we must remember that human anatomy and duck anatomy is very different, as their windpipe is through the bottom of their tongue which is not obscured when the tube goes in. Another point: Birds natural store fat in their liver during their life, so the disease only takes place for a rare amount of highly stressed ducks.

I work at a restaurant where unfortunately, foie gras is served. Our foie gras is shipped in from France and served on a daily basis. You'd be amazed at how many people actually order this! People order it just to try it and I'm sure that more than half the people would never eat it again. The customers order it knowing how it's raised .. I don't understand how anyone with a heart would actually WANT to try this. I'm considering speaking to my restaurant manager about this product.

@ShatterEffectt Actually, I know that there are 'proper reared' foie gras, I also know how it was discovered, I know they were 'replicating' the 'normal' feeding behaviors they undertake when they are about to migrate, but the animals in these cages are not migrating, therefore their livers are being damaged, it is disease, a diseased liver. I am not stupid Shatter, so don't assume I am. I have done my research. There are humane ways of feeding the animals, but I still think it's wrong.

This is pretty much how all chickens are treated in the US. So if you ever got to KFC then you support this. We should all push for more animal rights. I will still eat them but lets have healthier conditions for all animals bred for food. More room, less antibiotics, humane killing (i.e. instant death).

Ducks, geese, cows, lamb, pigs.... it doesn't matter which animal you choose to focus on they are all bread for human consumption. They are all kept and managed in one way or another before they are slaughtered. Unless the world becomes vegetarians, not likely, we should put a lot of thought and effort in to how we are going to prepare the animal so that the life it gave is appreciated by the consumer.

I work at a restaurant where unfortunately, foie gras is served. Our foie gras is shipped in from France and served on a daily basis. You'd be amazed at how many people actually order this! People order it just to try it and I'm sure that more than half the people would never eat it again. The customers order it knowing how it's raised .. I don't understand how anyone with a heart would actually WANT to try this. I'm considering speaking to my restaurant manager about this product.

My opinion is that this is outrageously vile and sick. I don't eat that stuff and can never afford it even if I wanted to - which brings us to this reality:
In a world where there the rich get richer and the poor get poorer - the rich drive up the price and demand for Foie Gras - and the poor are more willing to do this "work" for companies that profit from the "luxurious tastes" of the rich.
