SACD's, or Super Audio CD's have been improving the capabilities of CD's and players, but, sadly, it never really caught on and hasn't had as much hype as redbook CD's
I just picked up a Magnavox CDB-262 in excellent working condition. It has dual TDA1543A 16-bit DACs and a CDM-4/19 mechanism. It has a very transparent sound to it.
You paid too much, it was under $300 at Employee store, and it was soon replaced by a 16bit unit, the first PHILIPS units where 14 bit. PHILIPS invented it all. Next gen was well under 1/2 price and more features. They even went REMOTE CONTROL. And started coming from Mexico, teh first units where built like tanks, in Belgium.
$!@ is a great deal!!! Cool indeed. In Europe the first one had Philips label as Philips CD1000 Now a DSD RECORDER isn't much more than what these where, electroncis always gets better cheaper and smaller.. Philips also invented teh SACD/DSD to replace the CD format PCM. Introduced just as teh patent went off CD technology that they controlled,
@cengeb Even though 14-bit DACs were used, oversampling allowed full 16-bit resolution to be realised. It was due to the oversampling that these early Philips players were considered to sound better than early Japanese models.
If anyone who comes across this video wants to know the name of the CD, it's White Noise by Alpinestars, the CD came out in 2002, I have a copy of this album and absolutely love it to death.
They cost $599 when originally released beginning 1983. It's kind of funny how even tho it cost so much back then, audiophiles still consider it can compete with CD players of today costing around the same price.
IS'NT IT STUPID to try and evaluate a CD player through youtube?????
i would like to know how great quality an ipod touch 4 produce compared to a CD player?
HAWXLEADER 5 months ago
@HAWXLEADER
CD player will win, every time, unless you load lossless music files onto the ipod. Only then the quality will be the same.

Is it true this cd system uses analog cd's?
jaymorpheus11 10 months ago
@jaymorpheus11 There's no such thing as analogue CD's as far as I know, all CD's are digital, unless of course you're thinking of laser discs.

God! I remember when those first came out in the UK, they were toploading and way out of most people's price range.
