  • This is col animal but my favorite animal is mongoose.

  • @PlayerMcSleaze but mongoose dont fly or swim :P

  • It flies on the PVSEC in Hamburg these days. It surely is fascinating and a huge eyecatcher. Which it is, in a literal sense.

I spoke to the pilot after the show, he is from a company called airstage - they invent and build all these crafts (penguins or the latest without helium, the sea-gull) It is not from FESTO, they only thought it is a cool thing to have their name on, because they have a branch that does bionics.

In fact, there are no parts from FESTO in it the pilot said :>

  • Should have one flying around a large hotel lobby area! :D

  • y'r creepin' me out.

  • what is this and why do you people like it

  • UFO

  • How lovely.

  • beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • 6 people are f***ing retarded

  • That looks like the ship from flight of the navigator...

  • Top speed?

  • I can totally see this exploring the upper layers of a gas giant.

  • IS there anything new here? or just the really clever application of existing technologies?

Knowledge - useless without the imagination to use it!!

  • wellcome to a new technological era

  • Imagine flying this on a hot summer day!

  • THIS IS SOOOOO AMMMAAAZZZIINGGG!!!!!!! :DDDDDDD

  • can i ride it no homo

  • Visions have been the starting point for many groundbreaking innovations in the human history!

For example: It has been a vision of many people to fly one day. Otto Lilienthal has brought this vision to life and the Wright brothers added a motor. Without people who dared to have dreams like this we would not have aircrafts today!

  • no wonder people see UFOs sometimes :)

  • 0:31 Cleaner win! this look .. uhh nothink special just a normal day here :O

  • purpose is to be more proficient at biomimicry

  • The purpose of this things is to think , explore and learn. With 2.5 billion euro turnover and willing management they spend some of that to just think.

From this play will come there new " commercial " areas.

If you are not from an industrial background they are one of the top 2 pneumatic control suppliers in the world.

  • FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR

  • Festo airpenis

  • Is it just me or does it look like a massive whoopee cushion?

  • A beautiful piece of moving sculpture in harmony with simple mechanics. Perfect for such an open space. It must be mesmerizing to watch it in person.

  • O Jesus, son of Mary! Is thy Lord able to send down for us a table spread with food from heaven

  • what is the purpose of this thing? just for looks?

  • @ragder13 Yeah, and experimentation. You can't imagine how much stuff was discovered by people doing it for the heck of it.

  • @ragder13

what's the puropose of, for example, riding a horse or a rc car or a motorcross bike?

It's just fun stuf we like to do in our freetime.

  • looks like a creature that could live on a gas giant

  • Okay that's it. I marry any of yall that get me one of this LOL

  • this one is even cooler than the octopus!

  • boids

  • Anyone else instantly flash back to Flight of the Navigator?

  • Mummy mummy I know what I know for Christmas

  • I'm here because of Wallace & Gromit!

    Fantastic flying machine!

Almost as cool as the Hindenburg.

  • @nederland4045 me too

  • GERMAN FIRM

  • Beautiful, our technology will supercede us humans..........

  • festo IS LEGIT

  • Can u by them?

  • I note that though there are many galleries but there is no one there. Is that not odd? Is the whole thing fake or are there no interested people? Very strange. My guess is that the "masses" have become so dumbfounded that they no longer care.

  • @ehswan ever considered privacy?

  • ok as i said in the last one and more to come i really want one of these its so freakin crazy and wicked cool!!!!!!!!!

  • Do a barrel roll

  • @EmperorOfMars

I can't let you do that, Fox!

  • @chimeracomplex Your good, but Im better!

  • sadly it doesnt have a tail lol.

  • is it rc?

  • @HaloJackassOfficial No, it isn't RC. It has sensors on it.

  • make it do a barrel roll

  • OMG ITS A BALLOON WITH WINGS

  • name of the song?,,,,...

  • thats soooooo coool :U i would love to see a flock of these in the sky

  • The various Festo robots (AirPenguin, AirRay, AirJelly, etc.) are amazing showcases for the control systems behind them. Very innovative.

  • I'm guessing that when you have a slight breeze you have no Air Ray...

  • wow. i think that crashed in Roswell New Mexico sometime in the 40's lol.

  • @crazysob4801 yes it is filled with helium. watch the gadet show review on the penguins!!

  • these filled with helium?

  • @smt20007 yes it is!! watch the gadet show review on the penguins

  • BB gun. PEW PEW

  • lol idc wat u say, that would be an awsom thing to have flying around outside ur office hly sht. Just for meere decoration is cool

  • how much does it cost? :D

  • Darwin IV ;)

  • ok, what's the difference between that and a blimp?

    (other than size and fins)

  • @yehoshua2123 a blimp uses propellers and rudders to maneuver, this appears to maneuver with its fins

  • Buoyancy, filled with hydrogen or ny other light gas.. think so... thanks fr the video..

  • not as cool as the air jelly

  • Oh man, this company has a future in air ships, this is just the start, can't wait to ride in a Festo air ship to Mexico, that'd be awesome.

Forget flying cars, it's all about zeps.

  • Yes it is true that air ships would be a rather energy effecient method of transportation but its drawbacks are a lack of speed and a lack of interest in the general public. One air ship bursts into flames because of being filled with hydrogen and it instills fear for allmost a hundred years... go figure. But yea if you could make a small enough airship it could be used like a flying car.

  • @kurisu925

Yes, the bursting into flame problem is there, but the Hindenburg incident happened back then because they didn't have sufficient helium on hand to lift a zeppelin, so they went with hydrogen.

  • Oh there was plenty of helium around at the time. America just wouldn't sell it to germany.

  • Right, that's what I meant. And on the small airship, you have a point, it's been my dream since I was a kid to have my own small airship powered by hot air.

  • I would suggest abandoning the hot air Idea. Helium is the key to effeciency. It may seem like it might be expensive to use that method but when compared against the cost of burning fuel to heat the air Its really worth it in the long run.

  • @TSFreakazoid YOU NEED A MASSIVE ONE

hot air is better because then you can have the airship be nuclear powered

  • @kurisu925 the problem was never the hyrdogen. they discovered that the outside skin of the air ship was flammable, and lightning struck it, which caused it to burst into flames.

  • Yes mythbusters tested that. They made a paint of the exact same mix that was used and tried to light it on fire. It actually did not ignight well and burned slowly on its own. The hydrogen accelerated the burning engulfing the entire structure in mere moments rather than several minutes. The paint may have contributed but the hydrogen did the most damage.

  • @JDfanforever actualy it was static electricity, from the airship to the tower

  • @gumby1008

Actually... Water hitting the side made static go between the air pockets, then the wet rope touched the ground. The static darted across the hydrogen thingy and it caught fire. (I think)

  • @lemansquattro if it did that the static leap would be at the wrong end of the ship, no matter what we think we cant prove it, so, erm, IT WAS OSAMA BIN LADEN

  • @gumby1008 My only source is Seconds from Disaster, and the theory made a lot of sense

  • zeps and jellyfish.

  • @holycrapapie Yes, that would be winsome.

  • very beautiful to see

  • Feisto, you guys are masters

    Air Jelly : Ingenious, beautiful

    Air Manta: Fast, beautiful

    Air Penguin : simply beautiful

Only con I have is that you guys don't sell these ;(

Keep up the good work though.

  • @Dms12444 they also made a bird and dolphin

  • Theese woud make exeptionel mail delivers

  • hahaha mail deliverers, I would crap myself and then i might steal it -_-

  • omfg tis made me happy :-) Thanks!

  • I WANT ONE!!!

  • THIS THING IS SO COOL

  • It looks a bit like the Scrin Stormrider from CnC3 Tiberium Wars!

  • thier penguins better

  • at least this one won't kill Steve Irwin...

  • just lol dude

  • @vintageludwig ouch dawg too soon lol

  • @vintageludwig

    A real-life manta wouldn't either...

  • @Anchupom well its not like he slipped and fell on a stinger...

  • @vintageludwig

I was just being a nerd. Manta rays don't have stingers.

  • Screw you, dont make fun of that!!!

  • i want 1 o.o

  • ~*Trippy!! I could happily watch it sailing for hours...

  • the tail is cute

  • DO you know what this thing could do for mall security?

  • Basically while beautiful and showing that pilot's days' may be numbered, you have a very expensive pinata as someone else pointed out.

So yeah the teenagers who might otherwise snatch stuff would be devising ways to take or take down the security floater instead.

  • Other than people trying to pop it, the only thing it needs to worry about is air currents...

LOOK OUT! AIR VENT AT 3 O'CLOCK!

  • lmao

  • Very cool. But I think it would boring me after a few days.

  • i could see festo working on actual biological versions or at least bio mechanical versions of these things in the future. just think of a world with little, helium creating sky fish made by us to do...stuff? then again it might turn into Half-Life 2 in which all things are biology and yet mechanical

  • Wow, who else could have made this than FESTO. My father used to work there, it is a great , innovative firm. Congrats guy! :D

  • Jaques fresco could have made it but hes to busy trying to save the world

  • lmfao....

  • I know Im too heavy... but something inside me wants to ride that bastard like a horse. I wonder how big a "Air Manta" should be to be able to remain airborne with the added weight of a person lol!

  • START SELLIN ILL BUY

    $3,000

    PLZZZ

  • think more than that.

  • What would you do with it?

  • watch it

    i have money :)

  • Can I have some?

  • mabeeeee

  • maybe when police will be wrote below it, we will be less enthousiastic.

  • man, it's almost unreal, like, you would see theese in a dream or a wonder land of sorts

  • These guys really need to get into the dirigible business.

  • I think that the air Jelly fish is a interesting type machine better than the air peguin and manta cause it really does look better

  • I dunno, I think the penguins are pretty sick. And by sick, I mean adorable.

But yeah, the jelly is very relaxing, but the ray is awesome too in it's own way.

  • i want 2 of each air jelly air penguin and air ray i want to see if the can react to each other

  • Puergco...

The ray is filled with Helium (a gas that is lighter than air) so it floats like a hot air balloon. The wings and the tail are used to navigate. any more questions?

  • Wow, nice. Who did the music?

  • This is an interesting idea, but this could only be used effectively in an area with absolutely no wind flow or air disturbance.

  • hey this is real or is a simulation ??

if this is real somebody can tell me how does it fly??

    i dont understand plz???

  • its definitely real

  • ok if its real

What is what makes it fly?

    what kind of system

    because it´s amazing

  • Its made of light weight robotics and its filled with helium.

  • Imagine seeing a massive airship in the shape of a manta flying through the sky. Now that's something to look forward too! =D But of course, looks aren't everything. The technology is very energy efficient. Nature knows best once again.

  • watch this when you're high its so amazing.

  • do you use drugs?

  • thats heaps cool! especially how it flies!

  • Very interesting way of flying a lighter than air craft!

  • Filled with helium?

  • The passenger air vehicles of the future will be anamorphic. Think ornithopter! Can't wait!

  • wow this makes me want to cry

  • if i saw that in my office i wud scared like shit its so cool

  • swimming through the air... beautiful

  • do want...

  • how the hell do people make these things?!?!?!

  • thats german engineering art !

  • it looks like a robot baloon to me

  • awesome! ballons covered in aluminum foil! WooT! I think I'm gonna make one

  • i like there air jelly fight one better.

  • awesome

  • I want one for Christmas!

  • Lovely toy for when you are high.

  • Unless my memory betrays me Festo (the makers) are a mainly an assembly line automation firm.

Say you're a manager automating your factory - who will you choose, the firm that can do this, or the one that can't. ;)

For those interested; also search "strandbeest" on YouTube.

  • horse and pony shows only work at trade shows...the production manager that bases his job on his lines staying running go instead with anyone but Festo...

  • pwned

  • pwned by SMC lol!

  • However at trade shows Festo can show you applications beyond your thoughts. Festo quality is best.

  • Wrong think again. We are an Engineering company who can solve anyones automation needs.....

  • i want one. i simply must have one of these. whoever gets to fly these around for a living is one of the luckiest people on earth.

  • Great future technology! 5 stars!

  • i wish i can get that. but that thing is huge. it must have a wingspan of at least 10 feet, also don't you just feel like riding on its back. it is so cool!!!

  • Ahh! flying fish! we're fucked now!

  • now we need a flying orca like robot!

    that would rock!

  • i wanna build this SO bad....

  • good but not as good as the jelly fish

  • its like a flying cloud :)...

  • That is a beautiful, wonderful thing.

  • Dear Santa,

    This year for Christmas...

    That thing is soooo cool!

  • Incredible, I'm going to get my robotics professors into at least trying to imitate this masterpiece
