my sister feeds her son McDonalds and my mom approves of it! It makes me sick because this started when he was about 6 months old and they say "hes getting fat" and its because they feed him junk food pretty much all the time! it just pisses me off inside because its all he wants is fast food and other crap. it pisses me off to think they feed him this all the time.
@solidjdr I guess we now like our kids becoming fat! Sarcasm but seriously becoming fat isn't that bad but it can when it becomes too extreme like all other conditions.
As a society, I think we ought to care even if adults eat foods that kill them. Why? Because we pay for public health care where I live. But I agree that babies being fed this junk is way more enraging.
@num3ric the problem is we can't really do much about it since fast food is really convenient and nowadays convenience is just so important that people would sacrifice almost anything for it.
I think the problem is, high calorie fatty foods are much cheaper and readily available than healthy foods in this country, and our amazing medical technology has all kinds of drugs to battle fatty health problems, like high blood pressure.
@PageofLegend well that's kind of the whole point. Get people unhealthy by selling them junk food and then have them buy expensive medical insurance. The medical pharametical and fast food industries both mutally benefit.
Whilst sat in a café with my sister, on another table we saw a (presumably) mother take her baby's dummy, dip it in the sugar bowl then put it back in the baby's mouth.
This women is on the bus. She's obviously poor. Calorie for calorie it's cheaper to eat at fast food restaurant than shop for food. There may be no store to shop at in her neighborhood, as many poor live in cities where only convienience stores exist. Have a little compassion for the plight of the indigent in America, we're not all privliged enough to have the choices your family may have had..
Excellent rant! You've just described the fate of the USA. In my travels over Eurasia, the first question people ask when learning I'm an American: "Why are most USers so darned fat?"
One time I was waiting at a bus stop and this mother with a young child in a stroller had a one way conversation with me about her day. Like how she went to the mall, got into an altercation with another woman over some trivial item at the store and the pair started throwing profanities at each other. It ended when she decided she "didn't want nobody else swearing in front of [her] kid!" so she called up some trusty phlegm and nailed her opponent in the face. And ran away.
You're right. But I've seen a worse examples of parenting. A few years back, when I worked at an insurance company in rural Oklahoma, my office was right across from the post office. There were these people who would go to the post office with their girl who was maybe 3 or 4. When they came back to their car, they would let the little girl run around freely on the side of the car facing traffic, and then drive off with her standing up in the back seat. I seriously feared for this girl's life.
I have feed my kids at mcdonalds maybe once every other month. He likes vegs over meat. I do see your point, but perhaps this was a one time thing and you are over reacting. I do see your point but I think you take it a little to far
Could you have possibly said something to the mother? If you had explained to her the same thing you explained in this video (in a much more tactful way of course) you never know. She may have listened.
Even though I agree with staying away from unhealthy foods, what about natural sugar? I eat sugar all the time and I've always been fit... I guess it's a kind of an addiction... but considering many fruits have lots of sugar in them anyway, it's probably not something we can avoid ( getting the hankering for sugar that is ).
@RP08FootSoldier Eating natural sugars (like fructose in fruit) are processed very differently in the body to other simple sugars. Not just because of the structure but because of what accompanies it in the fruit, ie vits, antioxidants, fibre... It's all about balance. Kudos on being fit! :)
Bless you SuperSmash for caring about these issues. We are slowly becoming more and more mis-aligned with nature and people are starting to realize we need to put on the brakes before we destroy ourselves with war, crime, and obesity.
@RP08FootSoldier I recently just watched this happen before my eyes...and I was just shocked to the point where I was basically at lost for words as you can tell from this video.
I saw the oddest thing the other day, ironically on the bus as well. A young couple came on the bus with their two little girls--one was in a stroller and one was maybe 3, and some toothless lady was sitting in a front row handing out candy. She gave the kids candy AND THE PARENTS LET THE KIDS EAT IT. That's horrible. First, it was a stranger. Secondly, the lady herself was TOOTHLESS. Some parents....
This is an epic rant :D

In all fairness it might not be a regular thing, it is ok to eat fast food now and then.

Augh....that's pretty wrong.
And that's why kids get fat...and get early onset obesity.

I never fed my kids junk food....It's sad, but there are a lot of mothers who do this with their kids on a weekly basis.
