  • Also: never had anything against foxes, until last spring, when one ate one of our kittens. Good to know their sound.. sometimes one regret to not being a hunter..

  • Our cat, Gordon, a 10yr old male, who's used to our cat-door, were terrifyed when listening to this. Hides beneath the couch.. and I thought he was afraid of Nothing.( usually attacks and scare away big dogs..)

  • the chirp was sooo cute!!!!

  • Thank god that's what that noise was...

  • 1:51 - am I the only one who was not expecting that? He climbed that wall like a boss o_o

  • @FlowingDepths - she did that every meal time, and I was always terrified that she would fall and hurt herself! But she's fine. She's back in the wild now (and probably still finding fences to climb...)

  • @Sittingfox

    Haha, interesting... thanks for sharing!

  • Aww, they are soo cute.

  • I totally heard the "Ritual Fight" sound one night when I was outside and almost had a heart attack! I had know knew what it was until I just stumbled upon this video. Thanks!

  • i didnt know foxes even made noise???

  • HO SHIT them foxes climb like Spiderman. xD They sound more like angry monkies. :|

    But foxes still rule.

  • at 1:08 could any imagine a person way back in the days hearing this and then saying they heard a Banshee cry??

  • mobius187: Holy crap I finally know what was making that awful sound outside my house lol I thought something was dying

    -------------------------

Me too, so glad to know what it was. Definitely wasn't a dog barking... And we do have foxes in our fields and forest near French Alps.

  • I thought they sounded like birds ^^

  • I keep hearing the "Hungry Fox Cub" outside my window at night... Scared me.

  • I worked at a camp this summer and one night we heard what we thought was one of the girls was screaming bloody murder. We were all terrified until we found that everything was ok. One of the counselors had a hunch that it was a fox & this confirms it!

  • Like a couple of other people, I'm glad I saw/heard this, to confirm that what sounded like rabid monkeys in the trees behind my (Detroit) house was actually normal fox noises echoing through the ravine. Phew.

  • just heard this sound outside my house and i thought it was an animal in terrible pain. i was really freaked out, ahaha...

  • who was starting a car at 2:10 lol

  • 'Vixen whining' *Fox yawns, I don't hear anything*

  • 1:50 NINJA FOX!

  • Lol there aren't that many foxes where I come from and was kinda startled when I heard these noises in the middle of the night on a campsite in the UK, not knowing what it was. I only found out it was a fox when I encountered one on my way to the bathroom later that night

  • This is what I've been hearing for the past 5 years! For a while I thought maybe it was some person sneezing, or a dog, or a dog sneezing. Then I just didn't know. The other day I saw a fox, and I just heard the sounds again, and decided to look up what a fox sounds like.

  • They sound like screaming children.

  • Is this an old video? Because the quality looks like it was taken from the 90s.

  • I was wondering what the noise was that was coming from my field. Now I know!

  • When I heard this in the dark out my backyard, especially the sounds from 1:08 to 1:34, I knew that rabid zombies were about to kill me. My neighbor and I were pretty freaked out. Thank you for the answer I never thought I would get.

  • I heard this when I was staying in England...I really thought someone was dying in the street or something...absolutely terrifying...

  • Wired, I heard a noise to and locked the door to YouTube what a fox sounded like. Just about the same time as you.

  • Maybe I sound like a coward, but I was outside smoking a cigarette at about 11:15PM and heard this noise what seemed to be only 50' or so away near my pool! I ran quickly inside as to I had NO idea what it was! I did a quick search for the noise, and sure enough! BOY am I laughing my ass off now. haha!

  • My boyfriend and I spent ages trying to figure out what sound kept being played in Midsomer Murder episodes, you know when it's a night time scene and its meant to be all creepy. We thought it was a bird!

  • Wow, what an eerie sound.

  • Yep that's what I heard at 3am :-/

  • this stupid sound scared the crap out of me and my cousins the other day we thought it was someone getting stabbed now i listen to it i still get the chills but thank goodness for the fox it saved my life, this sound got us thinking it was a message from GOD

  • never would i have ever thought, that a fox would make that noise...

  • Oh my God .. so me and my friend were sitting in the middle of this small forest for a long time to see some baby foxes cuz my friend said she saw them yesterday, so nothing happened for a while. I played this video on full volume with my phone (3G internet), and when 1:50 came on , 5 seconds later a mother fox came RUNNING towards us , and once she saw that it wasn't her babies she ran back the other way . it was SCARY . we thought she was gnna attack us ...

  • I pretty much hear that "Ritual fight between two vixens" every night at about 12AM to 2AM.

It's rather creepy and like I said, happens nearly every night.

Why does it happen at those specific times? How long does it last?

Or could it just be a hungry fox cub and that's its feeding time?

  • they sound like monkeys :D

  • wow i never knew how much they sounded like upset babies or wailing women. hahha I'd be out like 'whats wrong' and It would eat me xD

  • This is the most fucking horrible, terrifying sound at 4:30 in the morning. I promise.

  • Thanks!

Now I know what the scary noise in my

Back garden was lol, i was kinda scared til i opened the door and saw movement as it ran away :P

  • Great video, thanks for posting!

  • Thank God for all those youtube sample animal calls! Now I have less chanses of shitting my pants while walking through the woods at night

  • Ninja Fox!

  • I heard a fox a few nights ago call put, kind of like a vixens scream but not quite sure with weird "impatient" sounding barking that was more similar to the fighting noise, but their was only one fox as it was RIGHT outside my window.

  • Someone needs to audioswap a video of the FOX News Channel with the sound from this video.

  • Thank you for putting up a video where the sound of the camera isn't louder than the sound of the fox... good work!

  • Thank you. Very informative video.

  • I hear this every night out side my window, exactly like the one where they were fighting , it's sounds terrible! First Time I heard it I thought coyotese were eating something:( haha but nope jusssttttt foxes , I love foxes though

  • Thanks for this we r in a tent and keep hearing that next to us

  • Thanks so much for helping me identify the very weird sound we hear from our Austin, TX home. This is exactly what I heard. I'm so glad it was just a fox and not something more ominous our criminal.

  • Dam i heard that last night outside my window in London. thought some chimpanzees had escaped the zoo

  • lol that fox should be a monkey or halloween

  • 1:50 - SPIDERFOX..SPIDERFOX..DOES WHAT EVER A SPIDERFOX DOES...

  • It sounds like someone scares the crap out of her every few seconds.

  • Where I live is very secluded and you can hear them barking in the forests but at night it adds like a creepy echo and a sort of reverb sound to it. Its quite a terrifying sound then.

  • Hahahaha Cats are like "Ok guys break it up!"

  • thanks for this, great clips.

  • great video

  • great video

  • 5am wanted to get some sleep, heard this thought some one was being murdered worst NOISE EVa!!!! Die

  • God, foxes are awful.

  • Beautiful foxes you have by the way (:

  • Oh, so THIS is what I heard outside my house at 3 am! It scared the sh*t outa me!

  • I guess that means foxes and dogs are closely related when it comes to breeds.

  • Aww cute well that clears that there is this noise been around making that nose at night i new it was a fox thanks for posting video :) i love foxes xxx

  • I thought a woman was being attacked when I first heard the 'Vixen Barking' outside my window, then when it kept on happening, I realised that living in Leicester it was likely a fox. The place is absolutely full of them! They also like chicken burgers from takeaways, i remember throwing food to one. :)

  • The fighting foxes sound like something that I might have heard near my house last summer.

  • Dang, i can't even beleive these things are even semi-related to wolfs. I mean, they sound so scary it freeks me out.

  • The fighting foxes sound a lot like one of those squeaking toy hammers. Does anyone else notice that?

  • ha ha love the "ritual fight"

  • This has been very helpful. I've just witnessed one of these sounds outside my home and thought some poor animal was in terrible pain. Now I can go to bed and rest without worrying as it definitely was a fox. Thank you so much for educating me.

  • Hmm, sound like my brother.

  • Man, and I thought coyote sounds were annoying.

  • aw man glad THAT noise is from a fox!!!, last night it was horrible, i freaked out!! haha

  • 1:49 damn hella demotic

  • 1:49 damn hella domotic

  • That is super helpful thank you! We've always had foxes in the garden but i've never really heard their calls apart from the bark. But we've now got a Dog so he reacts to every noise so ive taken notice. I was worried when i first heard the "cub hunger call" that something bad was happening but now i know what it is. The den is right outside the house oddly enough because nextdoor is just overgrown bramble and privet.

  • I wonder if they have a Wilhelm Scream...

  • One of the most annoying sounds in nature...

  • Creepy may it sound, but I'm kind of enthralled by animals that make calls that sound like a person is being murdered.

  • BAAAAAAARK BARRRRRRK woof.

  • So THATS what that sound was... a few minutes ago I heard this really wierd sound from our woods, and I know a few foxes live around here (they steal our chickens sometimes...), so I wanted to see if that's what it was... apparently I was right.

  • For some reason, the two vixens fighting reminds me of British parliament......

  • Cute foxes!

  • so vixens and red foxes are the same thing or no?...im confused

  • @screamingsisters - a female fox is called a vixen. The male is called a dog.

  • male foxes are called reynards..

  • @Sittingfox hahaha what do you call a female dog? :L

  • @Sittingfox Or a tod, for males.

  • @Sittingfox - a male often referred to as "reynard" or "tod".

  • @Sittingfox I thought the male ones were called Reynards?

  • @screamingsisters i believe a vixen is a female fox

  • the furries are coming! the furries are coming!

  • Their barking sounds almost like a woman shrieking.

  • Wow, give the fox food! hes hungry! bastard!

  • That Fox Is Screaming Like Bitch XDDDDD

  • you have wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much time on your hands

  • I came.

  • WOW!! Finally! We seriously thought we had a velociraptor living in the pond area behind our apartment. The sounds at the beginning of this are identical to what we heard. Who would ever guess a fox makes this noise? It was utterly bone-chilling when we heard it.

  • @shakycam3 I didn't even think foxes made noises at all... (though that may be an impossible assumption)

  • @shakycam3 A velociraptor would be preferable to one of these critters. The raptors just want to eat you-the foxes want to EAT YOUR SOUL.

    Also, the raptors smell better.

  • Very beutifal, but whenever you said it was whining, that was probally just a yawn. But you are lucky to be able to see them like this!!!

  • They're very beautiful animals one of the uk's

Most famous I've got not one but two families

Living close to our house one in the garden and one in a nearby woods

  • Baby foxes are not called cubs. They are Kits.

  • @AnnetAroura - Depends where you live. I prefer to call them kits, but in England they're usually called cubs.

  • @AnnetAroura Oh, ok. I didn't know that. Thxs for telling me.

  • @AnnetAroura Cubs, kits... I know what I call them: Cute!

(But yeah, both cub and kit are correct words as far as I know)

  • so beautiful :'3

  • so cute but man annoying. still cute though

  • Those vixens sounded like my ex-wife. Sent chills down my spine

  • I would hate to live where you live. o_o

  • 1:48 I spy matrix.

  • @LunarEclipse135 there freakin annoying

  • @theluvbo I didn't say they weren't. You're entitled to your opinion, but I personally like the sound they make.

  • Man I was sleping with my lil sis and all I heard was that vixen sound i did not what it was but my sister jumps up and thought it was a mad animal eating a poor little girl I live right next to the foxes the coyotes one time i picked a baby fox and did not do one bit and the mom was already frightened but still weirdly attacked me

  • fuck this shit, one of this bastards does this every night in my neighborhood

  • Hrmm, not sure if I believe the "hungry fox cub noise"... I also hear some machinery resembling that of a vacuum in the background.......

  • They look so adorable, but thern they opened their mouths and I was like, "WTF." That's freaky. If I heard that in the middle of the night, I'd shit brix.

  • we heard this weird sound in the early hours of the morning frightened us half to death we are in Corstorphine Edinburgh thanks for the video now know it was a vixen

  • the 2 vixens sound like rabid monkeys

  • I'd be sooo pissed if these things was fucking around outside my house in the middle of the night.

  • A few minutes ago I heard an animal screaming that I thought might be a fox, but wasn't sure so did a google. This site turned up--and is just about exactly what I heard. I'm in northern Michigan in the woods, and have lived here for 30 years, and never heard that sound before! Talk about eerie!!

  • some of them sound like furbies XD

  • BRAAW

  • not just red foxes do this. A fox wandered into our back yard and made the same noise.

  • i loved imitating animals. like owls. birds. crows. bears. and even foxes incase i like it. it was fun :D ! ! ! ! !

  • i never heard a fox sound before but was this only for red foxes

  • @MyBlaze09 - these are red foxes. Unfortunately, I've never heard any other species of fox make a call, so I cannot really compare.

  • lol she's like I want babies, gimme some

  • Thank you for posting this. I was awakened at 130 in the morning last night to the "barking" sound. We had no idea what it was. I went outside and finally "saw" who was making that sound. I had NO idea what it was..totally freaked me out. Had I looked for this video last night I would have fell back asleep much quicker! All I kept thinking was.."What the hell WAS that???After searching through the internet for wild animals and the sounds they make I found this video! LOL...So thanks for posting!

  • @superhero68 - you're welcome! :-) And they do make strange noises, I agree.

  • Thanx for posting this video we have a fox family in our back garden and they realy make strange noises. Now I know that wery loud noise 3 or 2 am was a fox fight. Thanx.

  • @superhero68 Hi Mate, i live in Hertfordshire, England, my house is right next door to a farmers field and i hear these noises every single night, they are so loud its unbelievable. When my friends come over they think its a banshee in the fields, seriously, its awesome, Just to let to you know that i live 10 minutes where they film Harry Potter and all the Bond movies, dont know if you wanna know that but just thought id put that in there as alot of my blood family live iv Virginia. Take care.

  • @rhonda200874 Thanks for sharing!!! Dont know HOW you can live with that sound EVERY night..lol...but I guess you just get used to it after a while. I, on the other hand, grew up in the city, so this is NOT a sound I ever heard..nor did I ever even see a fox before that night! lol...havent seen or heard it since that night..and I have to say..Im pretty thankful. Its so cool that you live near those movie sets.

  • @superhero68 LOL

  • @Tyannalyn

I thought the exact same thing!!!!!!!

but i recently saw a redfox where i live by the river so i youtube'd it sounds and here i am

  • @DigitalSniper18 Hehe awwwww

  • @superhero68 I was just woken up early this morning by fighting foxes but I also didnt know what it was till I seen this video, It was a VERY frightening sound and very loud to, It lasted for about an hour to !!

  • @superhero68 that is hilarious because that just happened to me last night.....the only thing is i've been hearing this "scream" for about 2 years and have never found out what it was, until last night when it was so close to my house, i looked out the window and there's a fox in the road....one of my neighbors warned me that there was a fox around.....never knew such a cute animal could make such a retched sound!

  • Are they like really dangerous to have in yr neighborhood n will they attak dogs or cats?? I heard one just before nd a dog barking...my cats r outside so ya.

  • @AGUYWHOSBEDISSTOLEN - foxes are not what I'd class as dangerous animals, though all wildlife (even squirrels) should be treated with respect and not handled. They're far too small to be a risk to any dog bigger than a chihuahua, and are no threat to an adult cat. But your outdoor cats are definitely at risk from cars, feline HIV, garden poisons, dogs, and (depending where you live) potentially coyotes...

  • That's not correct. There was one incident of a fox (thought to be a cub) biting two 9-month old young babies in a London house, but that's accepted to be a freak event. There was a separate case of a little boy being bitten when he reached under a shed to get a ball and accidentally startled the fox, which nipped him in defence, but so would any wild animal. By world standards, foxes in general are very easy wildlife to live with. We can live and let live without much trouble.

  • @Sittingfox It was probably rabies

  • @mcfc90 A child is far more likely to be injured by a dog! If you knew anything about foxes you'd know they are very timid creatures and keep themselves to themselves. A human being injured by a fox is an exception rather than a norm.

  • Never really heard a fox before, it's not a particularly nice sounding animal!!

  • PROTIP: Bunnies hate this video. Mine stiffened up at the fighting parts. Ears going back and forth like little radar dishes, too.

  • sounds like someone who's falling from a building

  • 1:51 Spider-Fox! :D Foxes are adorable,but they make the CRAZIEST sounds! O.o

  • they sound like children screaming

  • 1:10

    They sound like chimpanzees!

    1:50

SHIT! That thing is fucking nasty!

  • Wow, they sound...weird.

  • This was so helpful in identifying the creepy noises coming out of the woods nearby our house lately. Thank you.

  • omg they're strident...

  • I live in a built up area and we have had a fox here for years, last night I was woken by what I thought was kids, then thought some sort of ape (we dont have them in the UK!) but the pattern was like a dog barking I then saw it was the fox,

  • When I moved back in with my P's years ago.. the first time I ever heard this noise I swear a dog was being murdered.. Kept hearing it night after night.. Looked it up and found out it was a fox. I'm used to it by now.. but man, the noises they emit still creep me out and make me stop dead in my tracks.

  • sounds like someone who's falling

  • I had a couple of those making those calls two nights ago and again last night when I was sleeping in my treehouse out in the woods. I had no idea what they were. It was extremely creepy, especially when they decided they wanted to be right in front of the treehouse.

  • Aww! So kyuut!!! I want one, no joke!

  • I live in a town, but my house borders a hill that no one inhabits for miles. It has its fair share of wildlife. The calling sound in the beginning is SO CREEPY to hear at night. Not to mention hearing the fox hunt some of the feral cats around here.

  • @sweeperchick - it's actually extremely rare, lightning-strike rare, for foxes to attack cats. They're not as big as they look; a big male cat weighs more than a fox and is much more muscular - and has deadly claws. There are many records of foxes being killed by pet cats, but the evidence for the reverse is very shaky. Coyotes, on the other hand, will definitely kill free-roaming cats.

  • @Sittingfox - I guess I should say that there are a lot of feral cats (of all sizes) around my house, thanks to the guy who owns five abandoned barns across the street and doesn't take care of them. I have seen a fox run down our driveway, across the street, and into the barns looking for cats. Maybe it's after the kittens. But it's true I have also seen a tomcat chase the fox.

  • @Sittingfox / What the heck kind of cats do you have? Foxes weigh in at up to 17 lbs, and the larger ones in Alaska/Canada can get up to 31 lbs.

A large house cat is only about 10 lbs.

  • @Adak6881 - the Alaska Dept of Fish and Game puts a red fox's weight at 10 - 15lb. In Britain, they average 13lb. A large cat like a Maine Coon can weigh 25lb. And they're built very differently; foxes are lean and light for leaping on things, whereas cats are much more muscled, and are armed with deadly retractable claws as well.
