  • T. Blair and B. Elton...the evil Anti-Steels

  • I love the titles - Iain Dowie and Freddie Flintoff included amongst the great historical figures

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL " You wan play poool" LOOOOOOOOOL I LOVE THIS GUY

  • I really wish British people would learn to say "Maryland" properly. It's one word, like Northumberland, not "Mary-Land". No stress on the last syllable. MAR-uh-luhnd.

  • Ahaha the balloon: Its a slave xD.

  • 3:31 it's barry shitpeas!

  • As a Black Brit i appreciate Mark Steele doing a very funny informative video about Harriet Tubman. Her story needs to be told. As usual very funny but also insightful video.

I think you will find that Great Britain was the first country to put an end to slavery and even go to Africa to discourage it and penalise anyone still participating in the trade. This was done in the early 19th century when it was still a profitable enterprise.

  • @SirHappyThe1st Well I don't appreciate all the pan-black stereotypes in here...what the hell is up with the reggae music? With the dude stealing shoes off the guy in the hospital? With Steele's impression of how black people talk, apparently part-retarded, and his shock that a white guy from Barbados would talk similarly? None of this has anything to do with Tubman except that they are all black....weak sauce

  • @SirHappyThe1st And as for England being the first to end slavery, a couple thoughts:

    1) Many countries have never started slavery...very important point.

    2) More importantly, England moved to ban slavery because it's competitors: France, Spain, Portugal and the US controlled territories better fit for slave-based production. At the turn of the century, France had Haiti (at the time known as San Domingo and the world's most productive land), England lost the US plantations...

  • @wilgarroba I'm quite sure the majority of states (and indeed tribes) did have slavery or a form of it.

  • @wilgarroba The english banned the slave trade, then slavery in the colonies, but if you were over six years old your former Master could keep you to work as an unpaid apprenticed until HE felt he had gotten fair compensation for his investment in human property.

  • @SirHappyThe1st ...and it made more sense for England to try and push for an end to slavery outside of England because it would raise their competitors expenses much more than it would increase their own.

They understood that the best way to get it ratified in other countries of interest, you needed to do it yourself first. Hence England banning the slave trade, certainly not because of any new-found humanism...don't forget that England maintained it's colonies for anotehr century plus.

  • This is a very good video but I am dreaming or didn't Great Britian have something to do with slave trade too?

  • Naaah, thats just a nasty rumour put out by the americans

  • @losarman Ha! Ha! Ha!

  • @streetwhereulive "I have watched how steadily the general feeling, as shown at elections, has been rising against Slavery. What a proud thing for England if she is the first European nation which utterly abolishes it! I was told before leaving England that after living in slave countries all my opinions would be altered; the only alteration I am aware of is forming a much higher estimate of the negro character."- Charles Darwin
