The default engine with rpg maker vx is not as good as xp. However, with scripts and such, rpg maker vx is a far better engine. In addition, having the note boxes in vx also allows for much greater opportunities.

@savetara Mapping sucked in VX, it went back to RPG Maker 2000's battle system (which sucked), you needed a script for a Final Fantasy battle system (one of the main reasons 2003's used today), VX is MUCH harder to use than XP (unless you have expirence with BOTH XP and 2000). So all in all, your better off using XP.

@TheGameAnyoneRPGer If you are not a script person then perhaps xp may be better for you, but for the advanced users, I still think VX is the best. I have used all rpg makers from 2k to vx, and I wouldn't be able to create my project the way it is in any other rpg maker but vx. I will agree on one thing, mapping was better in xp and I do miss the unlimited tileset feature, but again with the scripts, you can still bring those features back.
