I was in India on election day, and every person in the room was crying with joy. Germans, French, Phillipinos, Indians, British, and we two Americans, all hugged and cried with happpiness and relief!
@keshand6 awww! its sad now because now people are crying in distress, and hugging trying to comfort eachother after almost 3 years of NO change at all. he let us all down. :/
I think Obama will be a great president and I really wanted him to win, but the reaction from around the world has been a little over the top. Yes, he will be a very good president, but the reaction from certain places has been huge, he's not going to be able to live up to them calling him "their saviour"
@ridd201 I sort of think so too, but I believe most of the worlds population can agree that America was put through hell over the past 8 years. We as Americans waited that long to scream and jump with joy.
I got up 2:30 in the morning to watch it live on Danish tv, it was so amazing, at ca. 6:00 they announced it. Congrats to America, you guys are back! and thank you.
As a Franco-Canadian today i can only say wow to the US because what they have accomplished, is that in less than 100 years they went from having segragation to having a black president, let's hope he is as good a president as he is a good public speaker.
Finally the Republican reign of terror comes to an end with the exception of those Slingblades at Baylor University in of all States...you guessed it...TEXAS.
So much for those bullshit Christian values they are always talking about.
I can't stop watching these celebration videos...it's kind of crazy. They remind me of New Year's Eve. I've never seen such excitement for an election. Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU America for choosing the right man for the job.
CNN had a countdown clock when certain polls were closing and some major results would flood in. Obviously enough to push him over the 270 that he needed and CNN offically projected him the winner. I didn't expect it to be called right then but it makes sense looking back.
Can someone explain why people were counting down to zero? How did they know that cnn was gonna announce it right then? in chicago they were also counting down....
11PM EST / 8PM EST is when many of the West coast polls closed. There's a clock in Times Sqaure (probably with the seconds running when 11pm hit). When California was called for Obama, it was clinched.
Before the polls closed in the west,if you look at the numbers, clearly it was impossible for McCain to catch Obama, and so it would be just a reality everyone was waiting for, as any results from the closed polls, California in particular, will give Obama the 270..so everyone was counting to celebrate. As I far as I remember, I have not seen a moment like this in elections before!
yes, I think we all knew McCain didn't have a chance. But just finally seeing the words saying Obama won was so amazing. I'm so glad that this election was the first I could vote in!
Same Here! IM 15, i never thought id see the day. i used to watch Civil Rights movies, and documentary. and the idea of a black president was like a fantasy. 30-40 years later we elected HIM!!!!
what an experience!! i was in grant park! I thought they were just gonne project indiana or maybe another state not that cali, and the election were secured! what an election! what a night! What a man! Congrats Obama and Biden!

@ridd201 Everything was better than Bush or another Republican. You could have elected a small puppy and we'd still be happy.
